The EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) program is designed to provide training to individuals in order to function independently in a medical emergency and serve as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. This includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care as an attendant-in-charge with a basic life support ambulance service or other specialized rescue service.

addiTional PrErEquisiTEs

Students must be 16 years of age by August 1 of the upcoming school year. They must be an active member of a fire department or rescue squad in Loudoun County. If not a current member, each student will be required to join a fire department or rescue squad after being accepted for this course and must be an active member PRIOR to the beginning of class.

The EMT-B portion of this course will focus on the role and responsibilities of emergency medical technicians, basic medical terminology, health care skills, and CPR. Instruction will emphasize the proper use of emergency equipment and safe method for lifting and transporting injured patients.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in training and patient care experiences supervised by the Loudoun Country Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services.

This curriculum provides the student the opportunity to be part of the volunteer fire rescue system, prepare for a career opportunity in the Fire/EMS service, or as a base for other volunteer and career opportunities.

The EMT program is mentally demanding. Students should be prepared for an intensive course of studies.
