“Creating beautiful bouquets you wont want to throw over your shoulder"

Firstly, congratulations on making the most important decision in your life. You are finally marrying the partner of your dreams and want everything to be just perfect.

As a bride, you want to look your very best on your wedding day but if you are not experienced at makeup application, the question arises: what sort of makeup to wear and how do you make your makeup

stay flawless all night long? The best way to achieve beautiful results is to book a professional makeup artist. The process of finding the right “makeup artist” can be daunting, but you can search the internet for makeup

artists around your area. Most artists will have their own website where you can see photos of makeups they have done. This is usually a good indication of what sort of makeup they can do for you.

Another good way to find a makeup artist is word of mouth and social media such as facebook. Regardless of who you decide on, always ask to see their work first.

The next step is to book in a wedding makeup trial. This is very important and saves a lot of unnecessary stress and time on your wedding day. If you are unsure of what sort of look you would like, look through magazines

and pick out pictures and you will find a growing theme. Show the makeup artist your pictures but be open to suggestions; what looks good on the blond-haired, blue-eyed model might not go so well with your dark hair and brown eyes.

The key to a good relationship with a makeup artist is to be upfront with how you want to look but be open to advice.

Another important aspect to consider if you want to look even more beautiful on that special day is your skin. In order for your foundation to look smooth and flawless, Your skin needs to be well-hydrated and in the best condition possible.

There is a lot you can do to help this along: start a good cleansing/moisturising routine at home, a balanced diet cutting down on processed food, coffee and alcohol and make sure you are exercising at least twice a week. Also make sure you drink lots and lots of water. It really does help! If you have time to pamper yourself, think about investing

in a couple of facials leading up to the wedding. Your skin will love it and it will also help you to relax at the same time!

Ok, so your skin is on the the way to looking good and now it is time to think about your makeup. A good makeup artist will talk about different looks that would suit you and together you can come up with a

look that you are both happy with. A good makeup artist should only suggest and never force you into a look that you are not comfortable with. Beauty comes from within,

if you feel beautiful you will give off a radiant glow and you will look beautiful!

There are many different looks that you can choose for your wedding day and, as a makeup artist, I am often asked about what sort of looks are popular for brides. The most popular makeup looks that people seem to request are:

Whatever look you choose, it is important that at the end of the day you are very comfortable with the look you have chosen.

You should look and feel relaxed and radiant on your wedding day so sit back and enjoy the pampering by your makeup artist. Nothing looks more gorgeous than a beautiful smile!

Good luck with your wedding plans!

Make Up

- the smoky eye; a lovely smoky eye (usually grey or dark brown) with flawless looking skin and a pale/neutral lipstick,

- the retro look; 1950s makeup, a neutral eye teamed up with a winged liner and a beautiful red lip and

- a natural look which includes a radiant complexion, defined but natural eyes, illuminated cheeks and a slightly deeper lip colour.

“It rained on our wedding day”, recalled Jill. “We thought it might rain because we had been keeping an eye on the 7-day forecast online, but each day it looked bleaker.” Despite the rain Jillian Hall and David Watson were married on the 30th October 2010 at the All Saints Church in South Hobart. Following that they had their Reception at the Henry Jones Art Hotel.

The invitations were prepared by Richmond Concepts and Print and Jill and David were very happy as they were ‘simple but elegant’ and reflected everything they wanted. Jill was lucky because the room that they had their reception in had such ambiance that they required very little other work. :No decorations were needed, just the charm of the Jones & Co room at the Henry Jones Art Hotel”,Jill said remembering the day fondly.

Jill wore a stunning ‘Nyna’ Maggie Sottero gown from Rayanne Bridal and she also purchased her jewellery and had alterations done there as well. It is always handy when everything is at the one place as it cuts out a lot of the extra running around. The bridesmaids’ dresses were from Bella Bridal and David and his groomsmen wore Spurling suits hired from Les Lees. The girls were glammed up by Glamour Puss Hair & Beauty Studio in Hobart. Rosa from Simply Flawless made the girls look stunning and did a perfect job on their makeup.

Rain can be a blessing after all!

Jill and David travelled in two red and white Kombis from R and R Kombi hire. The flowers were from Gay Flowers in Sandy Bay. The bouquets were slightly off-white roses. They had fishbowls with white decorative rocks, water and floating Lilies for centrepieces. Jill had a great money saving idea and used the bridesmaids bouquets placed on the same fishbowls for the bridal tables decorations. The ceremony was finalised by the giving and receiving of two plain traditional gold bandspurchased from Darts Jewellers in Hobart. Their first dance song was ‘The Shape of things to come’ by Bear McCreary.

David and Jill definitely had original ideas for their bonbonniere. They planted 100 sunflowers a week before the wedding and gave each guest a sunflower seedling as their gift! Jill and David also organised their own playlist for the night. The photography was taken care of by Dan Pettersen from Photizo Wedding Photography. “The rain made the photos quite spectacular”, boasted Jill. “We borrowed umbrellas from the Henry Jones Art Hotel which were red and the main photos were in the botanical gardens in Hobart. With the lush green background and red umbrellas it looked quite amazing”! Jill’s Aunty, Anne, made the wedding cake which was a traditional fruit cake. David and Jill spent the Wednesday afternoon prior to their wedding icing and decorating the cake themselves. What a wonderful idea!

Jill’s best wedding tip is to “cherish every second, and when things go wrong don’t fret. It is your wedding day, so delegate any problems that need solving”! These are very wise words and this will certainly allow you to make your special day more

enjoyable.
