{thoughts from the editor}2015 will be a great year for weddings! Celebrations span many styles from the still-so-popular barn weddings to rustic to glam. We are happy to report that weddings continue to be full of special touches and details.

There is something about beloved dogs that make a wedding special for some couples; our Musher Wedding shoot (pg. 40) happened with the help of Valley Snow Dogz (a Waterville Valley area sled dog business) and some expert and game-for-anything sled dog handlers who stepped in as our bride and groom models. Added to this was the creative vision of Birch Blaze Photo who willingly stood in snow up to their knees on a cold wintery day to get some incredible images.

When we think of rustic wooded wedding fun, Ogontz in northern NH comes to mind. There are no adequate words to describe the incredible location and creative, hard-working staff. Working with Rodeo & Co Photography, the staff, our models and wedding pros brought a rustic, camp wedding to life (pg. 10). Farm/outdoor weddings are very popular and we found a wonderful private mountaintop property in Alexandria, NH (pg. 54) captured by Kim Keyes Photo and a new location at Timber Hill Farm in Gilford where J. Harper Photo shot some great images (pg 26).

On a November day, Philbrick Photography captured a woodsy wedding fantasy (pg. 58). The style shoot combined a natural design with glamorous style created by a talented team of wedding professionals.

Wedding table colors and designs are very important for a personalized wedding and with that in mind, we asked Michele Wiggs at divine inspirations! to bring her style to a lakefront table design photo shoot (pg. 19) photographed by Colleen Brownlee Photo. An additional table design shoot took place by a warming fire in the big fireplace at Gunstock Mountain Resort, photographed by Kim Keyes Photo (pg. 21). A Belknap Mill springtime themed photo shoot brought talented vendors together in a unique and beautiful setting with images by simpell photo & design (pg. 28).

Dive into this issue and find inspiration for your wedding - the advertisers herein are all pros and very willing to make your wedding day all you dreamed it might be!

“I had such a blast working with Chris! I looked at quite a few DJ’s and I loved that

Chris is a ‘one man show.’ “

The personal touch at a reasonable price.

Here’s what happy couples are saying about Luna Eclipse DJ Services:

“Chris was a true professional. Creativity, thoughtfulness, and flexibility are his strong

suits. The wedding reception was perfect thanks to Chris.”

“Chris was also available to me ALL THE TIME. I was a very...well, controlling bride and a little bit OCD about things and Chris

just laughed and rolled with my punches which made my life that much easier.”

Wedding Trends(and How to make them happen in the Lakes Region)

by Mindy Rossignol, Private Weddings & Events

ColorThe Pantone color of the year is Marsala. I must admit I have yet to use a red hue as the main color in any of my events, but I’m excited to incorporate it this year! Most colors are connected to a particular season and have a few colors that will mesh well with them. I will use Marsala in my fall and winter weddings, combining it with oranges, yellows and golds for fall and greens, whites and silvers for winter. Back-drops of vibrant fall leaves and pure white snow make the Lakes Region the perfect place to incorporate Marsala into your wedding flowers, décor and attire. Some may utilize the color of the year in their weddings but most will trend toward a neutral color palette, featuring pale shades of color.

VideographyA few years into my career, I had the priviledge of working with a videographer. Most couples will put it last on their list of must-haves for their wedding, but it is the number one thing most couples regret not having. A great wedding film will tell the story of not just your wedding day, but your jour-ney getting there. Amazing photographs are a must, but they don’t capture the words. I’ve seen so many moments that needed to be captured on video, amazing toasts, surprise performances, a special dance with a grandparent…we all know how important having a great photographer is and now couples are seeing video is just as important. Budget it in at the beginning of your planning process. New Hampshire has a number of talented videographers to choose from. Book early.

Farm to TableEating local and healthy has always been important to peo-ple, but less so when it came to weddings. Now, more and more caterers and venues are incorporating fresh local meats and produce into their menus. I love combing another trend of Family Style Dining, with Farm to Table cuisine. It creates a more intimate, at-home dining experience and is a great middle ground between buffet and sit down service. I also love mixing other nature-made elements into weddings to make them as environmentally friendly as possible. Farm tables made from reclaimed barn wood, seeds, succulents and baby trees for favors, ceremony arbors made from fallen

trees all enhance the Farm to Table dining experience! Do a little research and you will find the Lakes Region has many farm stands that are working with caterers and ven-ues to offer more and more Farm to Table dining options to their clientele.

Weekend WeddingsI get many calls from couples who want to rent a lake-side home and host a wedding weekend on site. They want to spend the weekend with their friends and family celebrating on the lake. Who wouldn’t? While it’s great in theory and there are a few options out there that will allow this type of celebration, they can be costly and require a lot of planning and coordination. My advice is to spend some time researching the places that will allow this, but be open to other options as well. When a couple can’t find a location or can’t afford it, I usually recommend they rent a lake house for the week, invite close friends and family over throughout the weekend, but have the actual wedding somewhere nearby. There are lots of venues that host one wedding a weekend, so you will still have that intimate feeling you’re looking for, but without the hassle! Check in on Thursday with your family and friends, have the wedding on Saturday and kick everyone out on Sun-day allowing you to have a “minimoon” (another trend).

Tip: If you rent a lake house through a vacation rental company, in the off season (June, September, October) you may be able to request a Thursday to Thursdayrental (or shorter time period if you prefer) allowing you to have a Saturday wedding. Be aware if you’re looking at a date in July or August you will most likely be held to the standard Saturday to Saturday check-in, forcing you to have a Sunday wedding.

No matter what “Trends” you may follow, my advice is al-ways “The best Trend to follow is YOU”. Add YOUR per-sonalities into every aspect of your wedding, making it YOUR day, unlike anyone else’s.

Happy Planning!

Which style of Rustic are you?By Jaime Melfi

Scenic views and rugged landscapes make the Lakes Region and White Mountains the perfect destination to celebrate a rustic wedding. With stunning natural beauty surrounding quaint villages, what else could you ask for? Well, how about this – the perfect cake to complete the wedding theme! Beautifully crafted, delightfully tasty, and uniquely designed just for your special day. But there are many rustic cake styles, so where to begin?

Dream ThemeTheme is the most difficult decision, and we’ve established that! However, a “rustic” themed wedding can go in a few directions, from conservative and Colonial, to simply beautiful and funky backwoods that incorporates natural elements. Let’s break it down into five distinct categories to establish a foundation for your cake design. Always remember that the possibilities are limitless and you can mix and match styles to create the perfect cake for your wedding.

Design Details: (above) Three-tiered Southern Chic Style Cake with white fondant icing, white fondant lace detail on the middle tier, white fondant ruffle (top and bottom tiers), fondant burlap borders, and white real ribbon details. Finished with a gumpaste magnolia. Cake by White Mountain Cupcakery. Photography by Hailey Tash Photography.

Southern ComfortInspired by the southern countryside, this romantic and delicate style is a perfect complement to the rustic landscape of the Lakes and White Moun-tain area. These cakes are usually refined with vintage accents.

Start with a clean white or ivory base. Bring some inspiration from your dress, linens, or flower arrangements into the design, but in a more subtle way. Burlap crafted fondant can make for a great border on this style cake. If you decide to add any floral details, keep them simple and classic. Lilies, daises, and magnolias are perfect picks! If you don’t like fondant, no problem. This theme can also be achieved by using butter cream, real burlap and flowers.

Simply RusticFor a simple cake design, three classic styles work well with rustic weddings. Naked cakes and messy butter cream designs are naturally simple and realistically rustic. If you want something more traditional and elegant, but still simple, a smooth butter cream may be the right choice for you. Your cake decorator can add butter cream piping details, like scroll de-signs or a butter cream beaded border, which will add a little something, while keeping with your minimalistic theme.

If you decide to go with one of these three designs, use the ingredients and colors in your cake flavor as your accents. This will come in especially handy for seasonal flavors, like apples in the fall and blueberries in the summer. These styles can be beautifully finished with a few sprigs of rosemary, sage, or mint to add more color. For a citrus or fruit flavored cake, this works exceptionally well.

Design Details: (right) Two-tiered Naked Cake, filled with mascarpone, homemade lemon curd, and fresh blueberries; ac-cented with a dusting of powdered sugar and fresh blueberries. Cake by White Mountain Cupcakery. Photography by Spring Smith Studio

To achieve this style, add touches of lace and crocheting to your cake. Perhaps one of your tiers could resemble a pattern on an old plate from your grandmother’s house, or a favorite wallpaper from your childhood. A pastel color palette, blended with ivory and white, enhances this delicate design. Add soft touches of blush pink, baby blue, and sage to finish your cake. Flowers such as peonies, roses, and hydrangeas work beautifully with this theme.

With a shabby chic concept, how you display your desserts is very important. First, start with an old table or something that looks weathered. Lay down a piece of vintage lace or a crocheted fabric for texture. Next, use classic home items you can find at an an-tiques store to add some height and asymmetry. Suitcases, books, porcelain cake plates and old teacups work best. Display these items surrounding your cake and bring in a few other matching desserts. That’s so shabby chic!

Design Details: (above From left to right) 1. Three-tiered, messy buttercream cake, finished with sugar roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and sage. 2. Tiered cake with white fondant wood grain, white ruffle, and ivory crochet details, finished with a single open peony. Cake by White Mountain Cupcakery. Photography by Spring Smith Studios. Photoshoot styling collaboration with Dutch Bloemen Winkel and White Mountain Cupcakery.

Design Details: (above) Four-tiered, fantasy style birch cake (more whimsical and less realistic), in light grays and purples, finished with succulents made of gum paste in purples, pinks, moss greens, and teal. Cake by White Mountain Cupcakery. Photography by Spring Smith Studios.

Shabby Chic One of the most appealing aspects of the Lakes and White Mountain Regions are the unique and interesting characteristics of the many wedding venues. If vintage antiques inspire you, this can be the basis for your cake as well. The shabby chic look is created by textures and patterns that are chosen for their appearance of age, wear and tear, and showing signs of distress.

Birch and Wood Grain Nothing says rustic more than transforming your cake into a tree! Birch cakes have been a popular trend the last few years. Something to consider, should you go in this direction, is the color of birch you choose. Combine subtle shades of white, ivory and beige with earth toned flowers to create a classic wedding feel with a touch of nature. This style works best in spring and summer. If you’re having a fall or winter wedding, go with darker tree tones and shades of gray. Sensational succulents in an amazing array of greens and purples add a funky twist to this design.

If you like this style, but are not into birch, a classic wood grain texture can make a bold and beautiful statement. This can be accom-plished with traditional wood grains and shades, or white tones for a soft and delicate touch. All of these options can be done in fondant or butter cream. cont. on pg. 37

Boho ChicIf your style is eclectic and your venue is rustic, you can still have a more elaborate cake design. Use this natural canvas to showcase your funky style. Boho Chic is the new Shabby Chic! This style is achieved by using touches of nature and native prints, with bohemian, Navajo or hippie influences. Boho is about expressing individuality. Explore your inspirations as a couple.

Earthy tones are best, with splashes of color in a magical mix of orange, eggplant, and green. Accent with feathers or twigs to add a whimsical touch. With this style, pick flowers that are not sea-sonal. Tiger lilies in the winter add an exotic element of interest. Have your cake decorator play with different colors and textures for each tier.

An intricate design can still be rustic. Do you want a simple cake with flowers or an intricate design with very little embellish-ments? Start with a focal point. If you’ve already decided on your flowers, start there. Then pick a cake design that complements them. Even if you go flowerless (not to be confused with flour-less), your cake can still rise to the occasion!

Design Details: (From left to right) 1. Three-tiered cake with teal vertical ruffles, horizontal feather border, and hand piped beaded embellishments. 2. Four-tiered hexagon shaped cake, with watercolor handpainting, and piped native texture, finished with tiger lilies and other fantasy style flowers made of gum paste. 3. Four-tiered cake with feather fondant details and handmade dream catcher cake topper. Cakes by White Mountain Cupcakery. Photogra-phy by Spring Smith Studios. Photoshoot styling collaboration with Dutch Bloemen Winkel and White Mountain Cupcakery.

Topping It Off If you’d like to top off your cake, the choices are endless. If you prefer a monogram topper, but don’t want a metal or wooden one, ask your cake artist to customize one. Modeling chocolate sculp-tures of different characters or scenes, also make for great top-pers. Or feature something less traditional-a dream catcher can add touches from your life to share the story of your relationship. No matter how you cut it, your wedding cake is a sweet symbol of your love for each other...so make it special!

Sizing It Up The size of your cake needn’t depend on your guest count. If you have a small wedding, but want a big cake, this can be achieved. Decide how many tiers you want. Your decorator will size the tiers according to the guest count. It’s also an option to make a few of the tiers as a dummy cake. The outside will be made of sugar and look like cake. This way you can have your cake and not have to eat it too! If you want a cutting cake, do something easy like a six-inch cake and offer your guests cupcakes/sweets.

Unique wedding style ~ Are you an outdoors person who loves your pets? What if you work with your dogs ev-ery day and make your living as a sled dog handler? The an-swer is, of course, that your be-loved sled dogs must be a part of the wedding. The dogs were decked out in floral collars and the bride stayed warm with a vintage (faux) fur coat from a second-hand shop. Her gown was also vintage. In place of a

Romantic DetailsNicole and Jonne Wedding Date: August 16, 2014Images by Kim Keyes Photography

Jonne and Nicole met when both were attending law school. Jonne proposed over a surprise dinner in October of 2012. The couple planned the wedding with the help Nicole’s parents. Jonne’s only request was that the wedding be indoors so he wouldn’t have to deal with possible sum-mertime outdoor heat and that “we have Filipino food for the rehearsal dinner,” says Nicole. “Jonne’s parents are from the Philippines and he was born in the US. So he planned our rehearsal dinner at East of Suez in Wolfeboro. The family that owns it are Filipino so we had all Filipino food for the rehearsal dinner. Definitely a gem to have in Wolfeboro!” The wedding colors were a blush pink with the maids’ gowns from J. Crew in a dusty rose color. The groom and groomsmens’ suits were shades of navy color. cont on pg. 49

Lake LoveAmy and Mike

Wedding date: June 28th, 2014

In the style of a true destination wedding, Amy, who hails from Southern California (and Salt Lake City, UT for grad-uate school) and Mike, a native of Maine (who moved to Utah to teach and ski) planned their Lake Winnipesaukee wedding from quite a distance away. The wedding went off without a hitch thanks to the help of their Lakes Region wedding planner, Amy (Aim) Piper of Signature Events (www.signatureeventsnh.com).

The bride explains how the location was chosen, “Mike and I picked the location, a camp called ‘Laughing Loon’ on Lake Winnipesaukee in the town of Wolfeboro before reaching out to Aim (she was highly recommended to us by the property owners). We wanted to rent a place to host the wedding and vacation with our immediate family and wed-ding party in the week before the wedding. In addition, the spot had to be dog friendly, so our poodle Kersee could join us! We found the Laughing Loon on VBRO and contacted the owner to secure a date in early spring 2013. I visited the property with my Mom and Mike’s Mom in April 2013, and I met Aim for the first and only time before our wedding on that trip! Between April 2013 and the wedding day, Aim and I used phone and email to plan the rest of the wedding, as Mike and I were still in Utah. We did not do a single tasting or meet any vendors before the wedding, so having trust in Aim’s incredible abilities and great communication was important.”

Wedding colors/theme: White and gold, with a few other colors sprinkled in to give a bright and airy feel. The couple wanted the gorgeous lake to take center stage.

Wedding Attendants: 3 attendants who stood by the cou-ple’s side during the ceremony. The rest of the wedding party had special roles throughout the ceremony (prayers, carrying the rings, readings, etc.).

Guests: About 75 guests attended; about 30 of those guests stayed on site at the Laughing Loon with the couple.

Logistics of a lakeside/outdoor wedding: Signature Events handled the logistics, such as getting all the right power, lighting, catering (grills), etc. Molly the Trolley took guests to and from their lodging the day of the wedding. Thankfully, it was sunny on the wedding day!

Schedule: The bride says, “Initially, we were planning a late afternoon wedding and dinner, fairly typical, but then we realized that the tent, tables, etc. would arrive a few days before the wedding and be there all day Saturday, and we had the property rented from Tuesday through the Monday after the wedding, so there were no limits! We decided to create an all-day affair and take advantage of all the time and rentals already on site. So, we got married at 11 am, had

cont. on pg. 68

a brunch reception including our first dance and my father’s toast, played leisure games (life sized Jenga, corn hole, bocce ball, ladder ball, and canoeing), and then took a siesta! The trolley took guests back to their lodgings from about 2 pm until 6 pm. Those of us at the house hopped into our swimsuits and continued to play, as well as take some naps. When all the guests returned by trolley around 7 pm, we hosted a pizza dinner, right out of the box. Mike and I love pizza, so it was a perfect meal. After pizza we did the other toasts, mother/father dances, and then danced the night away with a DJ with breaks by the bonfire on the beach. It worked out perfectly and was exactly the all-day event we imagined!”

irst dates are important for many couples. That was certainly true for Andy and Kim, as Kim remembers, “Andy brought me back to the restaurant where we had our first date (Al Dente in Boston’s North End) saying he left something there the night before. He told me to ‘wait here’ outside. When he returned, he was holding a rose and proposed to me with a gorgeous ring. Un-beknownst to me, Andy had positioned me in the exact spot where he first met me!”

Although Kim planned most of the wedding, Andy was involved in all major decisions like event location and menu and planning the honeymoon. The couple chose the Lakes Region for their wed-ding, because Kim spent childhood summers at their family lake house in Meredith and Andy fell in love with the area. “We chose Gunstock because it provided a rustically beautiful, non-traditional wedding venue and spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding White Moun-tains.” (Kim has fond memories of learning to ski at Gunstock.) The wedding theme was rustic elegance with birch elements. The colors were raspberry and brown, with 3 maids, a maid of honor, a man of honor (bride’s brother), a best man, and 3 groomsmen. About 150 guests attended the wedding and everyone was transported by chairlift to the mountain top with its breathtaking views for the ceremony. The moment that still gives Kim chills to think of is riding the chairlift with her dad and all of the guests cheering when she appeared. “Altogether, the views from the summit were absolutely amazing and were only surpassed by how beautiful Kim looked in her wedding dress,” recalls Andy. Back at the lodge, the wedding meal was catered by Gunstock’s in-house caterer, Centerplate. (Appetizers on the summit were assorted canapes, non-alcoholic wedding punch, a cheese display and vegetable crudite with dill dip.) A specialty cocktail at the lodge was a raspberry Margarita. Dinner was seared chicken breast with wild mushroom sauce, seafood with creamy pesto sauce, penne pasta with creamy pesto sauce, Prime Rib of beef carving station, Black Diamond salad with balsamic dressing, roasted red bliss potatoes, green beens almandine. Late night snacks offered cheeseburger and chicken sliders. cont. on pg. 63

Because the wedding was in the Lakes Region, the water and boating played a part in the day. Says Nicole, “My dad is a retired police chief in Wolfeboro and now works at Goodhue & Hawkins Navy Yard in Wolfeboro as a salesman. One of the lines of boats they sell are wooden ones called Hacker-Craft and we were able to borrow the marina owners’ boat for a couple hours for the pictures. We thought about driving all the way from Wolfeboro to Meredith by boat, but it’s about a 1+ hour ride and I think we’d all have looked a little worse for wear by the time we got there! So we just took it out for photos in Wolfeboro Bay and then drove by car to the reception location.

cont. from pg. 42

“Hacker-Craft are hand-made in the US and are ac-tually still made from wood, when other companies have switched over to synthetic materials made to look like wood, which is pretty cool.” A little more than half the guests were from out of state and it was really important for the couple to have people easily get from the reception to their ho-tels safely. “We toured Mill Falls and I really liked that Chase House’s ballroom was intimate for our size group and that guests could choose rooms from any of the four inns at all different price ranges. For about 100 people it was perfect,” Ni-cole explains.

As a native of the Lakes Region, Nicole felt it was important to get married in the church she attended when growing up. The First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro was the ceremony site and since the building had just undergone construction, Ni-cole and Jonne’s was the first wedding in the new church. Nicole’s advice for others in the wedding-planning process: “Know that if you don’t get around to that tiny little detail that you imagined in your head, none of your guests will know!” In other words, don’t sweat the small stuff and instead enjoy your wedding day.

Gown Guidethe latest for 2015...and beyond

Lace. Cap sleeves. Vintage. Ballgown. Satin. Tea length... There are many terms to describe gown styles for 2015 and 2016. As you shop for your perfect wedding gown, here’s what you will encounter on the bridal gown trail. “Gowns with straps and cap sleeves are popular for the coming season,” says Cathy Furze of Country Bridals and Formal Wear of Jaffrey, NH. “Strapless is very much in

demand as well. Illusion backs and low sexy backs are really in this year.” Cathy goes on to add that a classic vintage look, more simple in design, is popular as well. Fabrics are lace and chiffon topping the list at Country Bridals and colors in bridal gowns are champagne, ivory or light gold combinations and blush. These are as popular as the traditional white. When shopping, Furze suggests appointments are advisable; this guarantees you a bridal fitting room. “Our salon allows walk-ins - at times we do have to use our brides-maid/mother fitting rooms. Appointments help a salon to schedule proper staffing, thus giving great customer service.” And speaking of bridesmaids, 2015/16 will see blush and pale yellow colors as well as light gray and corals for spring, according to Cathy. For those who love bright colors, fushia, purple for summer and navy, browns and grays will be popular for autumn weddings. Beaded belts are popular accent pieces to most gowns. At A Day to Remember Bridal Boutique in Concord and Uniquely Couture in Bedford, Hel-en Dionne (owner of both shops), says, “Beading

and ballgowns are making a comeback, although there is still a lot of lace. We are also seeing a little bit of satin returning. Drop waist and trumpet are still very popular styles, with ball gowns coming back.” She continues, “We are seeing color – pink gowns, blue gowns and stripes will be all the rage in 2015!” Rustic weddings are still very popular, and brides are look-ing for a perfect gown to reflect that theme. Helen concurs, “There are still many brides looking to fulfill their rustic vi-sion. These brides are usually looking for a sheath lace gown.” Planning ahead is advisable and will help in your search for your ‘yes’ dress. Helen explains, “It is so helpful when a bride comes in with photos of the gowns she is attracted to. That helps our consultants find the gown of a bride’s dreams. On the flip side, those photos have been Photoshopped and cropped, so the pictures always look great. In reality, a lot of those gowns only look good on certain body styles – like a bride who is 6 ft. tall. We always prefer appointments. It helps us to appropriately staff our store to make sure that each bride gets the ‘experience’ with one-on-one attention. Walk-ins can really throw a monkey wrench into your day that is already fully booked, and we don’t turn anyone away. The newly en-gaged are very excited and often they do not realize that they should make an appointment.” Helen says, “Tulle is the latest trend in bridesmaids’ dresses. These dresses are very romantic looking. Check out our new bridesmaid line (Sorella Vita) at our Bedford store. This line is a division of Essense of Australia, and we are so excited to be able to offer these dresses to our clientele!”

cont. from pg. 47 Ooo La La Creative Cakes provided a two-tiered vegan rustic birch bark wedding cake. Kim gives this advice to those planning a wedding: “We set our wedding date almost two years after our engagement because we wanted to have our pick of vendors and dates. It is so important to lock in the big things like venue, photographer, and videographer. Even after the big items are arranged, we would suggest keeping momentum because projects snuck up on us at the end (as they always do!). Pinterest was incredibly helpful with theme ideas for our wedding. With the help of some close friends and family, we did a lot of crafting to save money, but found we didn’t have the time for everything we had in mind. Then we turned to Etsy. With Etsy, you do need to order far in advance because many shops are so busy with wedding orders.”

Eric McCallister Photo

She adds, when asked about their choice of a photog-rapher, “An amazing photographer was our top priority after choosing a venue. After many searches and sev-eral interviews, we found Eric McCallister and we were impressed with the quality and style of his work. We also liked that he had experience capturing the beauty of the Lakes Region.”

Wedding Brunch: catering by Flavor Concepts. The bride says, “Best bacon of my life! Fresh cooked omelets made to order by a chef, French toast, granola and yogurt, potatoes, and other brunch favorites. We also did a mimosa bar and served coffee.”

Wedding Dinner: Anthony’s Old Style Pizzeria in Wolfeboro pro-vided pepperoni, cheese and then an assortment of styles chosen by Anthony, along with Caesar salads.

Dessert: The couple served donuts for the brunch and Whoopie Pies for dessert at dinner, displayed on a gold cupcake tower the bride bought from Etsy.

Advice from the couple: “My biggest advice would be to make the wedding your own and not be afraid to break traditions if you are inclined. We kept some traditions that were important to our families, but also tried to make the day really reflect who we are as a couple. That meant a lot of time for having fun at the lake with our family and friends and less focus on formalities. This was also how we went about picking our venue, which booked early,” explains the bride.

“Mike and I tried to involve each other in the process as much as possible, especially in planning the details. For example, we wrote our own ceremony driving through Iowa and added last-minute poodle table numbers that were so corny, but we loved them! I kept very close eyes on the budget and we were thoughtful about what we wanted to spend. And, of course, Aim made it all happen—she took all the ideas and pictures and put it together— exactly how we had talked about in the months leading up to the wedding!”
