The presentation of Transcaspian International transport route "China-Turkey-Europe" was held in Turkey

• November 27, 2015

• On November 19, 2015, in Turkey, Istanbul, the presentation of prospects and opportunities of the Transcaspian International transport route "China-Turkey-Europe" was held. The presentation under the name "The International Transcaspian Thoroughfare — New Multimodal Decisions" was held within the annual international transport - logistic exhibition Logitrans, with assistance of Council co-operation of Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish speaking Countries, in a format of a round table. Representatives of large transport logistic operators of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Lithuania took part in the mentioned action. Participants of a round table studied the project and noted the importance of development of the Transcaspian route. In their opinion, the Transcaspian route has a high transit potential. Representatives of the Turkish side expressed readiness to take part in the project of development of the Transcaspian route. As a result of a meeting, agreements on the organization of the first demonstrative train from China to Europe and in this regard also commissioning of regular container service in the mentioned direction are achieved. According to the statement of the Director " Trance Kavkasus Terminals" LLC Levan Sulaberidze,- the company together with cofounders of the International Consortium already works and carries out the activity in all countries operating along this route. • Within this project in the territory of Georgia within next year passing of some thousands of containers is planned and in such way freight from China will pass across the direction of Turkey in the near future and from the next year freights will pass through Ukraine to Northern and Eastern Europe. By means of this project, Georgia will return again to that big, trade, traditional historical way which is called as the Silk Way - Levan Sulaberidze noted". Together with opening of the project of the Silk Way and by means of our neighbors including Georgia as well, we have a brilliant possibility of transportation of freights from Europe to China and from China to Europe, through such countries as Turkey which by its geographical location connects the West to the East. We are sure that Georgia in the shortest possible time, by means of ports will become one of the important links in this route. Due to the opening of a new railway line, there appears an alternative to sea routes and at the same time trade between our countries Turkey and Georgia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, China and Europe will develop to the utmost " - the head of the Turkish Company of "SOYVCAN GROUP" Yalmaz Soikan declared. Within the project of modernization of Georgian Railway, on 5th of July, near railway station "Dzirula", together with heads of the Georgian Railway and Partnership fund the Prime Minister of Georgia in a festive atmosphere opened a 962 meter long tunnel. Within the project, construction of a new, electrified double-track way is also carried out on 22 km site of Khashuri-Moliti. Full reconstruction of 23 km railway track on the site of Kharagauli-Zestafoni is also planned.

According to the project, in total, construction of 6 railway tunnels is planned. The modernization project of the Georgian Railway, cost of which makes 260 million CHF, will come to the end in November, 2019. As a result of implementation of the project the capacity of freights will increase to 65 million tons a year; and in case of adjustment of systems of the alarm system, centralization and blocking on all railway line the capacity of freights will increase to 123 million tons. Environmental risks on a railway site of Moliti-Kharagauli will be reduced; the operating activities connected with railway transportation will improve and time of a trip by train in the Tbilisi-Batumi direction will be reduced approximately by one hour.

Rail Road • Georgian railway has a sufficient number of cars (wagons) IPU, eliminating the need to rent own wagons and their empty

return easy transit customs procedures and the lack of pressure and corruption on the part of customs authorities.

• Through the ports the shipment is being made to 3 main areas:

• •Transportation in Azerbaijan, Russia through the border crossing Samur / Yalama;

• •Transportation to Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan via ferry Baku – Turkmenbashi;

• •Transportation to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and China via the ferry Baku - Aktau.

• Disadvantages:

• - The lack of the Georgian railway containers of 20 and 40 ft. under transshipment of containers (500 TEU );

• - Disruptions on the ferry Baku-Turkmenbashi and Baku-Aktau, as well as at border crossings with Afghanistan (Serhetabat in the direction of Turgundi and Galaba towards Hairaton) lead to a significant increase in transit time.

Anaklia Port Project

The Deep Sea Port in East part of Black Sea is in demand.. The strength of Georgian ports right now represents 40 mil. tons, 60 % of which are oil terminals, and 25% is Poti Port which specializes on transshipment of containers. Therefore Georgia’s commercial ports transshipment of dry cargo does not exceed 6 mil. tons. Their loading does not go below 80 % which shows us high demand. All above mentioned facts show the necessity and demand of another deep port in the region.

Anaklia can service a wide range of cargos, than any other ports of the country. Competition probability is very low and though only possible during first years of operations of the port. Anaklia is oriented on other types of cargos, while ports of Poti and Batumi have their own specialization – containers and oil.

The Anaklia Port’s mission is to create a new, faster maritime corridor between China and Europe, helping restore the historic Silk Road.

The Anaklia Deep Sea Port development will be separated into nine phases spread over 400 hectares and has access to a deep sea canyon a Black Sea

APM Inland Container Terminal (project) • A grain processing terminal with potential of 500,000 tons annual

capacity was opened in May 2013, opening an alternative route for Central Asian wheat exports to the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions. In 2014, total container throughput of Georgian ports was approximately 480,000 TEUs, with Poti’s container volume 80% of this total, or 385,000 TEUs. In 2015, the current Poti Seaport is expected to handle over 8 million tons of cargo and 400,000 TEUs, with more than 1,300 vessel calls.

• APM Terminals Poti has completed a comprehensive study for the port master plan to drive and accommodate future cargo flows through Georgia and neighboring Armenia and Azerbaijan. With the completion of the Inland Container Terminal last year, APM Terminals has taken the first step towards executing this large scale port expansion. The next phase of the expansion plan, with projected completion in 2018, includes two new deep water berths able to accommodate vessels of 9,000 TEU capacities and an annual throughput capacity of one million TEUs.

• The planned new quay to be constructed in front of the existing Inland Container Terminal will enable full integration of the terminal yard, road and rail infrastructure into the expanded deep-water Mega-Port facility. At completion, the fully built-out mega-port will have an annual cargo throughput capacity of 50 million tons and 2 million TEUs. With a water depth of up to 16 meters the port will be able to accommodate the largest vessels calling the Black Sea. An adjacent industrial and free trade zone complements the projected cargo throughput growth.
