Soon 2016 will be ending and a new year will begin. Life is full of endings and beginnings. As with gradua-tions and birthdays, so much of life is marked by stops and starts.

REFLECTION allows us to consider what we need to stop doing and what we need to start (or continue to pursue). I don’t remember where I read it, but I love this line, “An un-reflected life is not worth living.”

The only way to truly reflect is to pause long enough to breathe deeply and to con-sider not only what we are doing but what benefit or loss we suffer because of it.

I believe the Bible is full of encouragement to SLOW down, to think, meditate, pray and look to God for guidance, answers and lead-ership.

Be STILL and know that I am God is a verse that comes to mind. God speaks in the still-ness and in a still small voice.

We can get so busy and life can get so LOUD that we are distracted and pulled away from a life with God by the simplest of things.

We can do all the good in the world, but if we don’t seek God with all we are, that good will only wear us out.

T Living water FLOWS. It is the movement of the Spirit of God that refreshes us. We should seek ways and places and times for the Holy Spirit to MOVE us in new ways.

In 2017 I invite us to be open to the leading of the Spirit. Believe and join with God in NEW and fresh ways of being His child.

Soon it will be the beginning of a brand new year.

We don’t have to take yes-terday or yesteryear’s aches, pains, problems, grumbles into the new year. LEAVE them behind. Let’s make an end of them as we give them over to God. That is brushing the dust off of your feet and moving on, moving forward.

AND with the NEW year, let it be NEW. Gain a fresh awareness of God’s love and peace. SEEK first God’s path and direction. KNOCK on the doors of Heaven and pray with increasing faith. Let’s not be afraid to ASK God about all things. Don’t just go through the mo-tions. Start in prayer. Walk in faith. See the windows of Heaven open wide with new blessings. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

First Church is launching The Breakthrough Prayer Initiative this new year. We will embrace Matthew 7:7 and ask God to do what only He can do in and through First Church. Everyone is invited to participate by setting aside 7:07 am and 7:07 pm every day to pray a short prayer (aloud if possible.) Prayer cards will be available at all services and at the Welcome Center beginning Jan. 7-8. God loves it when we pray BIG and is honored when we believe Him for it.
