Ephesians 4: 11-14 It is a crazy world out there, and we can often feel like we are being tossed by the waves and blown by the wind. As parents, grandpar- ents, neighbors, and friends, we want the best for our young people. We want to give them the knowl- edge, experiences, and faith to stand firm against the waves and wind. But with all the options and activities and schoolwork, it can be hard to fit faith into the picture for ourselves, much less our kids. A recent study by the Fuller Youth Institute found that only 50-60 per- cent of highly involved Christian youth group participants stick with their faith in college or become part of a Christian community. If you’ve ever been in school, you know that 50-60 percent is not a passing grade. And this is from our superstar Christian youth, the ones in whom we put our hope for the future of our faith. At First Church, we have spent the summer talking, sharing, and dreaming about how we can give our young people the best opportu- nities to grow a strong, lasting foundation in faith. For us, this FirsT started with Sunday school. We hope you have had a chance to check out our new children’s and youth Sunday school models. Our elementary kids are being challenged each year to really engage in traditional markers of our faith as they work through the most enduring stories in Scripture. For example, our youngest ones are focusing on the fact that Jesus loves them, and will be singing about that all year. Our third graders are still putting on the armor of God, while others are learning the Lord’s Prayer, the Fruits of the Spirit, Psalm 23 and, most importantly, what they mean to us. Further, our youth grades 6-12 now have a discipleship sequence that will take them on an amazing spiritual journey. Our 6 th and 7 th graders have all been given new Bibles and will spend the next two years walking through Scrip- ture from Genesis to Revelation. The 8 th and 9 th graders are focus- ing on what they believe about their faith, while learning about the historic Christian and Method- ist beliefs. Finally, our 10 th -12 th graders will spend the next two years growing in Christian com- munity and preparing themselves for life after high school and youth group. We hope that you encourage those young people around you to join these Sunday morning faith com- munities as we join one another together in the bonds of Christian love, raising our young people up to be strong, vibrant Christians in a world that so desperately needs the light of Christ. INGING FORFOR FOSFOS Our United Methodist Women are collecting Eyeglasses, Lenses, and Best Choice Labels for Festi-val of Sharing. Festival of Sharing is an ecumenical state-wide ingath-ering event. It is a cooperative re-sponse to world hunger, poverty and injustice and seeks to address the root causes with solutions. To find out how you can be involved, visit the Festival of Sharing website at www.FestivalOfSharing.org. The event is held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 15. If you would like to contribute to our UMW collection, please bring your Best Choice Labels, Eyeglasses, and Lenses by October 9th and place in the Clear Plastic Collection Container at our Welcome Center located in the church lobby. If you wish to make a monetary donation, on October 8-9 we will have Festi-val of Sharing special offering en-velopes available for your conven-ience.

Wednesday Night WOW (Wonderful on Wednesdays) is held on the first Wednesday of every month. It begins with a Carry-In Dinner (meat provided) from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Ministry Groups will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (See the 9/4/16 Bulletin
