FISHERIES- Two stages of eel fished :

glass eel yellow eel

- Two official categories of fishermen :

• Profesionnal : marine and rivermen

• Leisure : amateur and rod fishermen- A lot of poachers (non official fisherman)

MARINE PUSH NET "PIBALOUR"• pushing 2 rectangular frames of 7m² area each with a maximal depth of 1.3m. The maximum surface area authorised is 14 m²

• used by marine fishermen in the Gironde estuary

• under marine legislation : Affaires Maritimes

• boat size : from 9 to 12 m

• powerboat : less than 100 Cv

Glass eel

RIVER PUSH NET "DROSSAGE” (SINCE 1996)• pushing 2 circular frames of 1.2m of diameter, and 1.3m of maximal depth

• used by professional rivermen in the mixed area

• under fluvial legislation : DDA + Conseil Supérieur de la Pêche

• boat size : from 6 to 7 m

• powerboat : between 40 and 60 Cv

Glass eel

SCOOP NET "TAMIS"• handling a scoop net from a boat anchored to the bank or from the bank , with1.3m maximum depth.

In the public area

• all professionals (1.2m of diameter) and amateur (0.5m of diameter) in the marine and mixed area.

• marine and fluvial legislation

In the private area

• Members of Angling Federation whose have payed a specific tax.

• Mesh size : from 1.5 to 2 mm

Glass eel

• 1 m long and the mesh size is 1 mm square
