In the Doubles Final, Bopanna’s trademark big serves and some smart net-play from Sharan gave the top-seeded Indian pairing their first ATP Tour title. Such was Bopanna’s form with his service that he lost only four points on it in the entire match. The two pairs were not giving an inch until the 7th game when British pair had a chance to break which they missed. In the following game, Indian pair wasn’t so benevolent break-ing O’Mara’s serve to take a 5-3 lead and eventually winning the first set.

Spurred by the capacity home crowd, Bopanna-Sharan took the initiative early on in

the second set as they broke the British pair in the fifth and seventh game to go 5-2 up. Sharan’s serve in the eighth was broken, perhaps giving the Bambridge-O’Mara team some hope. But that was not to be as Bopanna did what he does best, serving out the 10th game in style to seal the deal.

MSLTA officiating school was inau-gurated by Hon secretary of MSLTA Sunder Iyer and Hon Treasurer Sudhir Bhiwapurkar At the MSLTA school of tennis complex in Ramnagar Nag-pur. 15 students from the Tribal De-velopment course appeared for the school conducted by ITF gold Badge official Sheetal Iyer.

The Indian Blind Sports Association (IBSA), in collaboration with Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Associa-tion (MSLTA), conducted a tennis coaching camp for coaches and visually challenged players recently at the MSLTA courts. The initiative was aimed at encouraging ‘sound ball’ tennis in the state. Tennis is played us-ing a specially modified ball, which makes a tinkling sound on contact with the surface. Players listen to the sound as it strikes and swing the tennis racquet according to their anticipation of the ball’s location. Simon McFarland, a Tennis Ireland Level 2 (ITF Advanced) coach, conducted the camp. More than 20 players from all over India took part, along with coaches. The effort will help in participation in international sound ball tennis events. McFarland was accompanied by Michael Blease, assistant coach, and Dr. Davinder Kapur, MBE. Paul Carter was present for the closing ceremony, along with Divyanshu Ganatra, founder of Beyond Barriers Foundation. Bharat Oza, president MSLTA and David Absalom, General Secretary Indian Blind Sports Association.

23 coaches from all India partici-pated in the course. Mr. Manoj Vaidya and Mr. Hemant Bendrey were the AITA tutors who con-ducted the course at NDHTA, Nagpur.
