As a goods-handling innovation, the humble pallet can be considered one of the most important innovations of the 20th century. Nearly every item we use on a daily basis has spent time on a shipping pallet or crate.

Shipping pallets are the ubiquitous silent workhorses of the world, letting forklifts shift and move large stacks of goods with ease, and enabling products to traverse the globe efficiently.

There are many compelling reasons to purchase an Eco Pallet, from their superior durability, to their branding potential and longer life span. While the majority of pallets in circulation are on a pulled, closed loop system of rented wooden pallets, there is a multitude of reasons to consider buying a plastic pallet.

High Standards

Plastic pallets offer a higher set of standards than their wooden counterparts. They’re stronger and cleaner, and the HDPE and PP plastic is more durable than the wood used in wooden pallets.

Maintaining a high standard from the beginning of a manufacturing process to the end is vital in this competitive global market.

When a company spends precious time and energy making their product to leading design and production standards, it makes little sense to ship that item off on a rented wooden pallet or crate.

By owning your plastic pallets, you can be safe knowing your goods get to their destination in the same state they left your factory. If a pallet were to become damaged, you would have the power to take it out of rotation, as opposed to being at the hands of a third party.

With wooden pallets, there is an increased risk of cross contamination as well as deterioration. In particular - industries, where reputation is important such as pharmaceuticals - the final stage of production, is as important as the last.

Branding is another aspect of how pallet ownership can be used to differentiate your product while in transit. Obviously, when renting a pallet,

the only in-transit promotion will be for the company you’re leasing from, but when a pallet is branded with your own logo advertising is virtually free. Spraying, silk screening and embossing are all ways that a plastic pallet can be personalised.

Contamination

To be in complete control of your pallet stock is a bonus for industries that deal in goods that demand the highest levels of sanitation - for example, food and farming. Cleanliness during transport plays a role in protecting products and pharmaceuticals from contamination.

Knowing a pallet’s history guarantees your product hygiene standards are maintained - unlike the process of hiring a pallet where its past could be unknown. Owned plastic pallets, which harbour no mould and are washable, can help reduce export risks associated with cross contamination - as of course, wooden pallets can be prone to splintering.

Knowing your pallets are used solely by your company alone reduces uncertainty.

Life cycle

According to the Department of the Environment, approximately 98 per cent of Australia’s exports are moved by ship, and predominantly, these exports are made up of agricultural products and bulk mineral goods. Most of these exports will be on wooden rented or leased closed pool crates, and while this system of renting pallets has some benefits, there are negatives too.

These systems are known to leak wooden pallets, with some ending up as unwanted trash, lying in parks and other irregular areas. Furthermore, companies usually don’t get compensated for the labour spent returning pallets. But a closed loop system need not be detrimental. By using purchased plastic pallets, grouped farming communities can reduce their environmental impact and their overall costs.

The durability of a plastic pallet means that its life span is longer than that of a wooden pallet.

High Pressure Cleaning

Usually recommended for used pallets going to quarantine areas or being exported overseas. We can arrange to clean any quantity of pallets for you.

The highest quality wooden pallets do not stand up to that of a plastic pallet. Plastic pallets can be repurposed for other uses, such as long-term storage. If used appropriately within its design capability, a plastic pallet can have a life cycle of well over five years.

There is a reduction in waste, as a plastic pallet can be used for much longer than a wooden pallet, it doesn’t rot and lose durability. The investment is one that also satisfies environmental concerns, as plastic pallets can be easily milled down and given new purpose after their long life as a functioning pallet.
