At the initial stage, bike parking actually encourages people to cycle. If a person chooses to ride a bike and at their destination they find the bike parking is unavailable or inconvenient, they may choose another option, like driving alone.
In order for cycling to compete with other modes of transportation, it must be convenient and efficient to ride and to park your bike at the same time. Bike racks provide additional parking capacity for customers to visit local businesses. Bicycle parking not only invites cyclists in, but shows the business values sustainability, which is an increasingly important factor in the decisions of consumers.
Typical bicycle rack Multifunctional bicycle rack
Innovative bicycle rack
Made of steel bars and commonly seen around parks with the sole purpose of parking and locking bicycles
These bicycle rack does not only function as parking and locking the bicycle, other functions are also integrated such as seatings and table tops
These are the bicycle rack that potentially will also be an attraction at the same time due to its innovation and creativity of its form and function

site Inspiration In the 1950s during the Malayan emergency, the Brigg’s Plan established was a resettlement strategy to isolate Chinese from the communists to cut them off from aid and assistance. Gangsterism was prevalent in the 70s to the 80s because most residents were labourers who were not very cultured. Cycling is still the preferred mode of transportation for most residents travelling in the area due to the narrow streets connecting the labyrinth-like residential housing area.
why Pallets ? 1) Natural drainage. Water will not collect 2) Easily transported to site in bulk by forklift 3) Strong. Able to withstand heavy loads due to structure. 4) Strong friction on ground. 5) Easily repaired due to modular parts. 6) Easily found in the industrial areas
// perspective //
Design1.Narrow slots will balance and hold bike wheels upright once the bike wheel enters the slot. 2.Upright pallet will be tilted in certain angle so that the lowest wooden plank of the pallet serves as a stopper for the wheel, keeping the wheel from rolling out of place. 3.Pallet in shorter length connected behind the bike rack as seating for users. 4.Wooden deck added on top of the rack for users who wish to use a table while resting on their bike.
