FAMILY FAITH SHARING

“There is no tale ever told,” author J.R.R.

Tolkien once wrote in an essay on storytelling, that

people “would rather find was true.”

The Catholic author of The Lord of the Rings

was speaking of the story of Jesus. Today, as we

accompany Peter and the Beloved Disciple making

their way to the tomb, we might echo Professor

Tolkien’s comment.

Our faith, as St. Paul tells the Corinthians,

rests on the reality of Jesus’ resurrection. We base

everything on the truth of the story. But establishing

that truth is not a matter of science, history, or

archaeology. It’s a matter of faith. We must call upon

the Holy Spirit, who is present to the Church, to assist

us.

In the Easter Gospels, we hear the witness of

the first followers of Jesus: Jesus was risen; they had

experienced him alive in their midst. Their testimony

in the Spirit moves us to a faith-filled “Alleluia.”

We live in a skeptical age. And yet in his

essay, J.R.R. Tolkien pays tribute to the power of the

Christian proclamation. He notes that there is no

other story which so many skeptics “have accepted

as true on its own merits.”

Our Easter Gospel is a story of living faith in

which we are participants, and to which we are now

BB NAILS at 400 S. Avenue D in Burkburnett will

open their doors for Saint Jude parishioners and

friends. They will DONATE all proceeds to the

BUILDING FUND for the renovation of our Parish

Hall. Please support them out and help with our

Capital Campaign.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: We will have our Family

Fun Day for all three parishes on Sunday, June 4th

beginning at 5pm. We will meet at the Permian Park

in Burkburnett for some outdoor grilling and family

fun. The Boomtown Aquatic Center is reserved and

will be available at 6:30pm for the first 100 interested

in the water activities. Please make plans to join us.

COMMON GROUND RECOVERY MINISTRIES:

Through a partnership

with First Christian

Church, Catholic

Charities Fort Worth offers people weekly

counseling-support groups, known as Common

Ground Recovery Ministries. A God-centered

approach with evidence-based curriculum.

Professionally trained counselors and group leaders

guide participants to healthier ways of coping and

maintaining quality of life. Groups include Parenting

Classes, Women CARES, Anger Management, and

Addictive Behaviors. Groups meet Tuesdays at

6:00pm at First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd. For

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: The message

of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that

God loves us – all of us. And, he wants

us to recognize that His mercy is greater

than our sins, so that we will call upon

Him with trust, receive His mercy, and

let it flow through us to others. Thus, all

will come to share His joy. The Prayer

Group from Christ the King will pray the Chaplet of

Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 23rd at 2:00pm at

Christ the King.
