Rel Prev and Next

@JennyHalasz

Key Things to Remember: • High Title Match • Duplicate Titles are Fine • Google Recommends View All • SEOs recommend Rel Prev/Next • Do not use noindex

Mergers and Acquisitions – Canonicals?

@JennyHalasz

Copy all old content to new domain

Needs to be almost

identical content,

although you can add new

if desired

Canonical old domain to new

domain

link rel=“canonical” href=“http://new

domain.com

Create banner to explain to users

Hey, guess what, we’re

moving!

Consider using a reference

Welcome, friends from old domain, you’re in the right place.

Create 301s from old to

new

Because now that you’ve completely

confused your visitors, you should do it

again…

Syndication – Two Perspectives

@JennyHalasz

I heard about this thing called the Internet. I think I could write about gardening on there and people would publish my articles!

I bought content from a lady who gardens. Now I can rank for “gardening” without lifting a finger! I think I’ll have another drink!

And 6 Months Later…

@JennyHalasz

I’m getting pretty well known for my gardening articles. I think I should start my own website!

I’m ranking for everything that has to do with gardening! Life is good.

And Today…

@JennyHalasz

I sure am glad that site added rel=canonicals to my content. My site is doing great!

I wish I hadn’t added rel=canonicals… that lady’s site is outranking me for everything about gardening.

And the Point Is… • Duplicate content is a universal problem • There are no easy fixes • Rel Canonical is a patch, apply with care • You’re probably doing it wrong • Rel Canonical is not a good solution to

syndication
