Rationale & intent of SBB

• Each student is different and possesses different strengths

• To help each student find fulfilment in learning and be motivated to excel in what he/she is good at

• Starting SBB at lower secondary levels will better cater to the strength of each student in different subjects and give them a stronger foundation in subjects that they are good at

Eligibility for Sec 1 HMTL

• For Sec 1 students, only those who were offered the option to take up HMTL at Secondary School level by MOE will be eligible. Students who are eligible should have receive this information in their S1 posting letter. Our school has also sent out a message to parents on 22nd Dec through PG to opt in or opt out for HMTL.

• Selection criteria set by MOE: • students ranked among the top 10% of the PSLE;

• students in the top 11% - 30% band who meet the language criteria (i.e. an A* grade in the MTL or at least a Merit in the HMTL), may opt to study HMTL at secondary schools.

HMTL Insert (End of Year)

For Secondary 1 Express students who are not eligible at the beginning of the year, they may be offer HMTL subject at the end of their Secondary 1 academic year.

The selection criteria will be based on their achievements in their end-of-year examination results. (overall Sec 1 EOY and MTL P1 & P2 results).

Only students who are selected will be offer HMTL and they will start their lesson in Secondary 2.

Third Langauge

• Sec 1 students selected to take a third Language, should have receive a message from school through PG.

• Reminder that registration will be from Wednesday 23 December 2020 to Thursday 7 January 2021. Students to refer to the school website for instructions for registration.

Mother Tongue B Syllabus

Mother Tongue B Syllabus (CL B / ML B/ TL B) was introduced to help students who face exceptional difficulties with MTL. Emphasizing practical communication skills, it aims to motivate these students to learn their MTL up to a realistic level, and to sustain their interest in their MTL and culture. Do note that MTL ‘B’ is not considered as an ‘O’ Level subject.

Sec 1 students (Express/ Normal Academic Stream) scoring Grade D or below in PSLE MTL performance (including those who took Foundation MT) will be offered MTL ‘B’ Syllabus.
