It is most important when purchasing footwear for school to select suitable footwear.
Footwear is an important safety item. Good soles provide a sound grip on the floor preventing accidents such as slips, trips and falls from occurring. Footwear can also protect feet from damage caused by accidents such as falling objects or chemi-cal spillages.
These guidelines have been developed to assist NSW govern-ment schools in providing a safe working and learning environ-
ment.

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to the 2013 school year for the whole Dubbo College South Campus community. Especially to families who are new to the school.
We have had a very settled start to the year. This is a result of solid planning and excellent support from staff, students and the community about the direction our school needs to take.
We welcome a large number of new staff to our Campus this year. Returning to the executive is Mr Ross Gorrie as Deputy Principal. A number of current staff are relieving as Head Teachers. Mr Elbourne-Binns in Science, Mr Berry in Administration, Mr Graham Black in HSIE, Mrs Olsen (Teaching and Learning), Mrs Wood (Professional Learning. New staff include: Sean O’Connor, Robert Lockett, Ian Munn (English), Kylie Walter, Trudy Newton, Jaswinder Bansal (Maths), Shannon Hockey (Special Education), Mark O’Donnell, Kevin Lee, Rachel van Leeuwen, Tyron Chetty (Science), Kyle Webb, Nathan Griffiths (Learning and Support), Margaret Anderson, Emma Kersley, Casey Shirm (CAPA), Lauren Imrie (Careers) and Cassie Witt, Vanessa Smith (Daily Relief).
This year a number of staff are also participating in cross campus teaching with the Senior Campus. It is a great opportunity that allows staff to teach students through to the HSC and for us to retain their skills at our site. I am sure that our students will benefit from these structures. These new faces have brought an energy that has spread across all areas of the school.
Our term begins with approximately 800 students. For this reason we have allocated specific year areas in the playground. This includes a specific area for our Year 7 students.
A number of key events are planned in the first few weeks. This includes our leader’s induction on Friday 15 February in the school hall. School Captains, our Student
Representative Council, the Junior AECG and Sports Captains will be recognised. Tonight Monday 11 February from 7.30pm is our first P&C Meeting for 2013.
Thanks to more than 100 people who attended our Wel-come to Year 7 BBQ last Wednesday. All families en-joyed meeting staff and fellow parents in this social envi-ronment.
The school swimming carnival takes place on Monday 25 February. All students need to be at the pool ready to start by 8.50am. Our SRC has planned a great day for students with a strong balance of competition, awards for participation and a number of novelty events. With some-thing for everyone there is an expectation that all stu-dents will attend the carnival.
A number of things will also remain the same. This in-cludes the mobile phone and electronic devices policy that was introduced last year. Students are not to bring them to school. If they are used they will be removed from students and stored safely in the Library. A process is then in place for parents to collect them from the school. The success of this approach in reducing disrup-tions, especially in classrooms, and keeping a focus on effective learning means that the policy is working and needs to be supported by families.
I am looking forward to a very productive year. Can I once again encourage as many parents as possible to come along to our first P&C Meeting for the year on Mon-day 11 February. It will commence at 7.30pm in the Li-brary.

What a fantastic start to the year already. We have wel-comes some wonderful enthusiastic new staff to the faulty.
• Emma Kersley is back with us for music. • Margaret Anderson in Visual Arts and Photogra-
phy • Casey Shirm in Visual Arts • Mark Peter will work in Yr 7 and Yr 8 Visual Arts
and music. Mr Young will now take on a wonderful job as Head Teacher assisting new staff in the school and across the College.
Week 2 some Yr 9 & Yr 10 elective Drama students will go to Sydney with Senior students, myself , Ms Lauren Ward and Miss Kerrie Walters to see the “Onstage” Yr 12 Showcase and participate in many workshops/theatre shows etc.
On February 20 (Wednesday) we have planned an ex-cursion for students interested in Drama and theatre to see “Animal Farm” at the Dubbo theatre. Cost $20.00 it is hoped all Yr 9 & Yr 10 elective Drama students will attend and this is a unit of work supporting this being de-livered in classes ATM!

Jazz Band rehearsals will run at 8.00am in the South Campus music room with Mr James Laundon. The com-bined band—South and Delroy looks like rehearsing on Monday afternoons at the Macquarie Conservatorium from 3.30pm to 5.00pm. Mrs Shannon Laundon will be conducting the Jazz Band. This is a very exciting new project and we look forward to our music students going from strength to strength. More details will be with Ms Kersley soon!
We are still sorting rehearsal spots for vocal group etc and will keep you informed through the notices as this information becomes available.

Dubbo PCYC will be starting a Dodge ball competition. It will run every Monday night Dubbo PCYC commencing on 18 February 2013 and will run for 10 weeks (normal school term).
Games will start from 6.15 pm till 8.30pm depending on the number of teams that REGISTER.

Dubbo City Physie 2013 Class Timetable
Physie is a low cost dance and exercise sport for girls and ladies from 3 years. It develops fitness, strength, fitness and flexibility in a fund and friendly environ-ment.
Age appropriate routines include stretching, exer-cises, aerobic dance, yoga/pilates, jazz, hip hop and contemporary dance. Physie improves confidence, develops a sense of achievement and builds self-esteem.
We provide new syllabus and music each year and attend annual competitions for teams and individuals. Competition is not essential but representing you club with friends can be a lot of fun.

Autism Spectrum Support Group
(Information sessions) * Do you care for someone with Autism, Aspergers or Pervasive Development Disorder?
* No diagnosis required, people which suspect ASD are welcome to the support group.
* All parents, carers and grand-parents of people with ASD are welcome to be a part of this sup-port group.
Support group will focus on sharing information to par-ents, carers and grandparents with their suggestions for topics being addressed on the first meeting. E.g. Infor-mation sessions on education, funding, social skills, sexuality and relationships etc.
This is not a support group for service providers.
Child care is not provided, but children are able to at-tend –parents and carers are responsible for this care (it is possible that we may look into this if necessary for future sessions)
NSW SCHOOL-BASED VACCINATION PROGRAM
Each year NSW Health offers the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school-based vac-cination program.
In 2013 the following vaccines will be offered: Hepatitis B vaccine for all Year 7 students who have
never received a course of hepatitis B vaccine when they were a baby.
Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine for all Year 7 students who have not previously received varicella vaccine or had chickenpox disease.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine will be offered to
Year 7 male and female students, and to Year 9 male students, as a 3-dose course over a six-month period.
- dTpa (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough)) for all Year 7 students (booster dose).
Parent Information Kits will be sent home to parents/guardians. To consent to the vaccination of their child, par-ents/guardians are advised to read all the information pro-vided, complete the Consent Form and return it to their child’s school. Please ensure that your child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic.
Parents/guardians who wish to withdraw their consent for any reason may do so by writing to the school Principal. The Procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation.
To improve vaccination completion, students will be oppor-tunistically offered any missed doses throughout the year where possible.
Please note that for HPV vaccine only, parents/guardians must record their Medicare Number (all 10 digits and the 11th number beside the child’s name) on the Consent Form, as this is required to record the student’s informa-tion on the National HPV Vaccination Register and, for female students only, link to the National or State Cervical Screening Program.
A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at the clinic. Parents/guardians should ensure that this record is kept for future reference and should not assume that their child has been vaccinated if they do not receive this Record of Vaccination.
