Challenge To Change:
Commitment or Compliance
“Neither a wise man nor a brave man lies down on the track of history to wait for the
train of future to run over him”.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
What is Change?
Change - A bend or turn
Change adjusts and modifies the past to the demands and needs of the present and
lays the foundation of the future.
Who is changing whom?
•Whose idea is the
change?
•Who has to change?
•Who will gain most?
•Who will gain least?
Managing Change
Identify desired change
Change the system
Change the attitudes
Achieve desired change
The Nature of Change
It falls from the above – Compliance Or
It is taking place from within – Commitment.
A Profound ChangeA profound change takes place when inner shifts
in
values, aspiration and behaviour combine with
outer shifts in processes, strategies, practices and
systems.
If an egg is broken from outside a life comes to an end. When that egg breaks from within, a
life is born. Great things always begin from that
power within.
What forces aid change from within?
People do not resist change; people resist
being changed.Richard Beckhard
Identification of stakeholders.
The key role players in sustaining a change.
To make people act and
react in a particular way
towards a particular
direction, it is crucial to
know why they do not
want to do so.
Mental paradigms erect
boundaries and barriers. The
change that fails to fit in
within those paradigms is
rejected and labeled as
irrational, crazy or stupid.
Assumptions and Apprehensions
-Fear of unknown-Stretching out from comfort zone.-Lack of complete information-Unlearning and re-learning the skill set-Threat to expertise
Change in Education
Though there have been reforms in education, but
the reforms concentrated largely on “first-order”
changes – changes that try to make what already
exists more efficient and effective.
Whereas few reforms focused on “second
order” changes – changes designed to alter
the fundamental ways in which schools
operate.

Data
Data Interpretation &
Analysis
It is apparant –
Major stakeholders of education perceive
Educational Reforms as a positive change
in society.
A vast majority of teachers of urban and
semi urban area are in favour of the
reforms as they have been able to
comprehend and thus implement them
better.
The students and parents stand at a little
gap from the teachers as they still find
clarity and complete information elusive in
these reforms.

ADDRESSING RESISTANCE TO CHANGE
A passive compliance metamorphoses into
a whole hearted commitment
when all the factors of resistance to change
are overcome.
And the challenges dissolve to become
milestones.
A change is not a bolt to be tightened into a place but
a seed to be planted &
to bear more seeds towards the hope of harvesting a
golden yield……
