Donor Impact Report2018
Dear Friends and Supporters,In 2002, four incredible, passionate women embarked on a journey to establish a community-based organization to support the needs of cancer patients and survivors, their loved ones, and their caregivers. They knew organizations like the American Cancer Society and comprehensive cancer centers were working on finding the causes of and cures for the myriad diseases called cancer; they knew local medical centers, physician groups, and healthcare facilities were tirelessly treating cancer patients; but they also knew that no one was really in the trenches, standing
side by side not only with the patients, but with all who are affected when someone they love is diagnosed with cancer. Two years later, they opened their doors. These four women—Lynn Arnold, Nancy Dowd, Eunice Jadlocki, and Ann Brown—recruited a group of dedicated volunteers, many of whom are still a part of our work today. I am sure none of them could ever imagine that fifteen years later, we have helped over 13,000 people and provided close to 100,000 hours of support. As you review our Donor Impact Report, you will see their ideals in real life. We are honoring our founders and “alumni” in May, for 15 Years of Community + Compassion, but we are also honoring them by looking forward with a bold strategy to truly embrace our vision: So That No One Faces Cancer Alone®.In 2019, we roll out our Vision for the Future to dramatically expand our reach and to assist those who are often forgotten in the cancer journey—culturally-diverse populations, which often see cancer as a stigma or are unable to access preventative care and treatment; families, especially children, who are watching a loved one face the disease; and patients who need help navigating the financial toll cancer takes. And we will do all of this while still offering vital support, education, nutrition, and wellness programs; resource referral; decision support; and so much more that we have been providing our community for the past 15 years. In New Jersey, there are over 500,000 cancer survivors, and 1,000 patients facing a new diagnosis every week. Every time we talk to a newly diagnosed cancer patient; a healthcare professional; a community or faith leader; or anyone impacted by cancer, we realize we still have so much more to do and so many more people to support. Your generosity of time and treasure has enabled us to accomplish so much, but there are thousands more people who need us. So, just like Lynn, Nancy, Eunice, and Ann did back in 2002, I am reaching out to all of you with a simple request—join us. Help us make our Vision for the Future a reality.

ort In May, after successful completion of a
challenge grant issued by the Far Hills Race Meeting Association, we
added a Certified Child Life Specialist to our team. This allied health professional
is trained to provide age- and developmentally-appropriate interventions
to children facing medical issues directly or indirectly through a loved one. With her guidance, we are building a comprehensive
program for loved ones—especially children—facing cancer in their families.

A professional iPhone photographer offers her expertise in taking and editing photos. The results are beautiful works of art featuring the CSCCNJ grounds and a fun social and creative activity for our participants.

Outreach
We relaunched our popular Strengthening Our Schools conference, which gathers school personnel and community leaders who deal directly with children. This full-day conference featured three separate interactive breakout groups, all facilitated by psychosocial professionals, discussing topics related to supporting students who are facing a cancer diagnosis of their own or that of a loved one. Fifteen of the conference participants expressed interest in starting a support group for students on site at their schools. Because of interest in Strengthening Our Schools, we will now be offering it annually.

Thanks to generous funding from Novartis, we hired a Hispanic/Latino Outreach Coordinator and we are planning a Latino Family Day of Wellness in 2019. We also hosted a South Asian Day of Wellness and began outreach in the LGBTQ and African/Caribbean-American communities.
Hope RisingTraditionally, 108 Sun Salutations are completed at the start of each season to bring good energy. We invited our local community to join us at our Bedminster location for four Hope Rising events to welcome each coming season.
