From the Desk of Father Pauselli

Today is Respect Life Sunday in the Catholic Church. This year’s theme is “Every Life IS Worth Living.” Whether it

lasts for a brief moment or for a hundred years, each of our lives is a good and perfect gift. At every stage and in every

circumstance, we are held in existence by God’s love.

Our relationships on earth are meant to help us and others grow in perfect love. We are meant to depend on one another,

serve each other in humility, and walk together in times of suffering.

An elderly man whose health is quickly deteriorating; an unborn baby girl whose diagnosis indicates she may not live

very long; a little boy with Down Syndrome; a mother facing terminal cancer—each may have great difficulties and

need assistance, but each of their lives is a good and perfect gift.

Experience suffering—or watch another suffer—is one of the hardest human experiences. But we are not alone. Christ

experienced suffering more deeply than we can comprehend, and our own suffering can be meaningful when we unite it

with his.

Jesus is with us every step of the way, giving us the grace we need. God invites us to embrace the lives we have been

given, for as long as they are given. Every life is worth living. Have a great week!

THE WORD IS THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD THROUGH SCRIPTURE, THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH WE CAN CONTINUE TO BUILD OUR FAITH.

Interested In Becoming Catholic?

Try R.C.I.A. “The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults” The Catholic Church is always ready to welcome those who wish to become a part of its faith community. The faith

community of Divine Mercy Parish strives to reach out to anyone interested in exploring the possibility of becoming

Catholic. This is always done in a manner where there is no pressure or obligation placed on a person to actually become

Catholic. Anyone seeking answers to their faith life can enter into a process where they, along with many others, search

for God in a new and more meaningful way.

If you have felt the first stirrings of interest in discovering who Jesus is and what it means to be a Catholic, please con-

tact Brittain Banull at 344-1724 for more information.

MINISTRY FAIR OCTOBER 3 and 4, 2015

“There are different gifts but the same spirit;

There are different ministries but the same Lord. 1 Cor 12: 4-5

We are called through our baptism to imitate the Servant Leadership of Jesus Christ. Every member of our parish has

been given great gifts and we have many great ministries for our parish family. Can you please consider … just one of

your gifts or strengths and find a way to share it with your parish community.

Just imagine if each person considered giving in gratitude for their gifts … some time to just one ministry … how

much more we could do as a faith community.

Please join us at the MINISTRY FAIR after all Masses on October 3 and 4, 2015.

The Annual Scranton Rosary Rally will be held October 10th. It is sponsored in conjunction with the

“America Needs Fatima” campaign; held in honor of the 98th anniversary of the Blessed Mother’s appari-

tions in Fatima, Portugal. Rosary will be recited publicly beginning at 11:00am at the corner of North Wash-

ington Ave. and Spruce St. on Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton. In case of inclement weather, the

Rosary service will be held in nearby St. Peter’s Cathedral. For more information, contact Josie at (570) 342-

5614 or Barb at (570) 591-0292.

Care and Education of Priests:

“Answering God’s call to a life of service to His people”

Our priests and deacons unconditionally answer the call to serve God’s people meeting increasing needs throughout our

Diocese. Contributions to the Annual Appeal fund ongoing formation of our priests, permanent deacons, seminarians

and deacon candidates. These funds also help us care for and support our 91 retired or ill priests, many of whom contin-

ue to generously assist with the celebration of Masses, the visitation of the sick and by offering spiritual guidance to all

in need. Appeal gifts also assist the Vocations Office, which has been blessed with encouraging growth, in guiding

those who are considering priesthood through a comprehensive discernment process. We are grateful to currently have

10 seminarians pursuing the priesthood in the Diocese of Scranton and 29 candidates to the permanent deaconate. Your

gift to the Annual Appeal directly supports the celebration of the Eucharist, proclamation of the Gospel, administration

of the Sacraments and devotions within our parish communities.

We would like to extend great thanks to the Notre Dame Club of Scranton

(President John Culkin) and the Minooka American Legion (President

Sean O’Shea) for the new flag pole in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The new

flag pole was raised this past Saturday, September 26th. We would also

like to thank the following organizations for helping with this project:

Spott Crane Rentals, Irons Workers Local 489, Pipe Fitters Local 524,

Connor Home Renovation, McGregor Industries, Keeler Transport , E D

Pons, Sandvik Steel, CECO Associates, and Burnside Tent Rental.
