Golf Course Superintendent News

Briane Faletto Class A Golf Course Superintendent

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a

Merry Holiday time. We have been busy on the course keeping it in top playing

condition. We have started our annual tree removal and cleanup and will contin-

ue this throughout the winter months. We have also been busy keeping the

course clean of debris. This is always challenging this time of the year. The Brick-

yard Golf and Grounds committee has developed a winter project list that we will

be attacking all winter long as well.

I recently attended the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association Annual

Meeting and Education Seminar. There are some great guest speakers who come

in and tell us about all the research and updates on all different types of topics

from weed control to tournament preparations. It’s a continuing education semi-

nar that helps us learn about new products and maintenance programs. There’s

also an awards banquet to recognize Hall of Fame inductees and other awards. I

learn a lot from these and thank the Brickyard for providing me with these op-

portunities. I hope to see you on the course!!!!

Brickyard Ladies Book Club

Pieces of Me by Lizbeth Meredith

In 1994, Lizbeth Meredith said good-bye to her

four and six year old daughters for a visit with

their non-custodial father only to learn days

later that they had been kidnapped and taken

to their father's home country of Greece.

Twenty nine and just on the verge of making

her dreams of financial independence for her

and her daughters come true, Lizbeth now

faced a $100,000 problem on a $10 an hour

budget. For the next two years fueled by memo-

ries of her own childhood kidnapping Lizbeth

traded in her small life for a life more public,

traveling to the White House and Greece, and

becoming a local media sensation in order to

garner interest in her efforts. The generous

community of Anchorage becomes Lizbeth's

makeshift family one that is replicated by a

growing number of Greeks and expats overseas

who help Lizbeth navigate the turbulent path

leading back to her daughters.
