Thinking about dairy farm automation? …. Are robotic milking, slurry scrapers and other automated livestock equipment the way

forward for your business?

There are a number of ways you can go automatic, whether it is robotic milking, computerised dairy

herd management, cattle feeding equipment or barn equipment such as slurry scrapers, livestock

ventilation units and cow brushes.

When considering what is right for you there are a number of things to consider. MYone from GEA Farm

Technologies is a web portal that provides you with useful guides on what there is to think about when deciding

to invest in all things robotic visit www.automaticmilking.co.uk for more information.

Automation is not just about an automatic milking machine but includes automated cattle feeding equipment

such as Mullerup, robotic slurry scrapers like the SRone, Lumitherm automated ventilation systems and herd

management tools such as CowView. This website not only looks at what is already out there but also what the

future holds with products such as DairyPro Q, the free stall robot for rotaries and herringbone parlours.

DairyPro Q

DairyProQ is the worlds first fully automated robotic milking cluster module that can be installed on conventional

milking parlours. It performs everything from teat preparation and preliminary milk sampling, up to the removal

of the teat cups and post-dipping. There is also intermediate disinfection of the teat cups and external cluster

cleaning between cows. Special needs cows can be milked on a semi-automatic, manual basis if required.

The rotary ranges from 28-80 stalls, with capacity to milk between 120 and 400 cows per hour. The system is

available in the UK, with current interest and predictions of the first installation in the next two years. A test farm

is up and running and the first one has been sold in Germany and due to be ready next year.

JACE Supplies install the new

GEA APOLLO milking system

Jeremy Platt Fields Farm, Middlewich

Cheshire installed a 30/30 GEA rapid exit

parlour ten years ago.

It was updated approximately 5 years ago

adding foot ID with heat detection and

also ADF was installed. In 2015 Mr Platt

decided to extend the parlour adding 10

extra units each side making a

50/50 parlour.

Stainless steel cabinets have also been installed to enclose the vacuum line, pulsators and ACR

rams, improving the overall appearance and general tidiness of the milking parlour, as seen in the

picture to the right where cabinets have been installed. The decision was also made to remove

the ADF system and install the new GEA Apollo cluster dipping & flushing system. The new system

has been running now for two weeks and Mr

Platt and his staff are extremely pleased with

the plant and the new GEA Apollo system.

For further information about the Apollo milking

system and stainless steel cabinets contact your

JACE Supplies team.

Foot baths are an important tool in the treatment and control of lameness in dairy cows. Ideally, foot baths should be at least 3m long and,

for the control of digital dermatitis, the foot-bathing solution needs to be at least 8cm deep.

From the agroserve range is a Peracetic acid based solution for foot baths:

* Rapid acting

* Broad-spectrum disinfection

* Added wetting agents

* Biodegradable and safe in use

* Economic – 1% dilution rate
