TEACHING AND MENTORSHIP

* Denotes new course offerings I created

Courses Taught at the University of Central Florida

PAD 6149: Nonprofit Administration Capstone Level: Graduate; Modality: Online; Semesters: Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2018, Spring 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020 This course offers an overview of nonprofit management, focusing on the ethical and leadership responsibilities of those individuals responsible for administering a non-profit organization. At the completion of this course students are equipped to evaluate the role of the nonprofit sector in our society and economy, to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in the nonprofit sector, to explore and discuss managerial tools, techniques, and strategies for effectively administering nonprofit agencies, to identify the moral and ethical responsibilities of nonprofit administration, to analyze the leadership literature and apply it to nonprofit administration, to explore relationships among government, businesses, and nonprofit organizations, and to design capacity building and change management strategies for nonprofit organizational effectiveness. *PAD 6238: Revenue Policy and Administration Level: Graduate; Modality: In-Person, Mixed; Semesters: Fall 2018 & Fall 2019 This is a graduate level survey course on government revenue policy and administration—the area generally known as public finance or fiscal administration. Public finance is a catch all term that describes how government institutions leverage taxpayers’ money and economic resources of any given community. The field of fiscal policy is a mosaic of public economics and policy, budgeting, revenue policy and taxation, financial management, and politics (not necessarily in this particular order). It is impossible to comprehensively (and intelligently) evaluate the fiscal affairs of any government at any level without knowing something from all of these fields. One necessarily has to have a multidisciplinary ‘toolbox’ of knowledge and skills in order to appreciate and navigate the complexities of government revenue structures. *PAD 6260: Government and Nonprofit Accounting Level: Graduate; Modality: In-Person, Online; Semesters: Spring 2018 & Spring 2019 This elective course is designed for graduate students in the School of Public Administration, as well as students taking graduate level coursework in preparation for the Uniform CPA Exam. This course emphasizes accounting for nonprofit organizations; state and local government fund accounting; development and use of financial statements; transaction recording; and accounting rules and procedures. PAD 6958: Governance Field Study: Metropolitan Governance in Seoul Level: Graduate; Modality: In-Person Study Abroad; Semester: Fall 2019 The Seoul, South Korea Metropolitan Government (SMG), in partnership with the University of Seoul, has designed “Case Study: Policy Management in Seoul” for graduate students in public administration and related fields to experience and understand Korea's politics, economy, and culture during their stay in one of Asia’s largest, most modern, and progressive cities. Students spend seven days in Seoul and experience numerous presentations and field visits that enhance their understanding of Seoul's public

administration. We focus on the Seoul Municipal Government (SMG) and use their reform efforts as a case study in public administration. The readings and discussions are designed to cover several key areas of governance and administration including: the built environment, economic development, human rights, and human services. This course involves several class meetings prior to going abroad and 40 hours of classroom work while in South Korea. PAD 7057: Advanced Public Management Level: Graduate; Modality: In-Person; Semester: Spring 2017 This doctoral seminar is designed for Ph.D. students in the Public Affairs program (public administration track) and senior MPA students to study the theory and praxis of public management. The course examines the latest literature and practice in key public management areas, including but not limited to, organizational behavior, human resource management, public performance, policy design/implementation/evaluation, and sustainability management.
