(July 13, 2009) – DAVIES Senior Vice-President and Pharma/Biotech Practice Leader Michael Wong, will discuss the power of cooperation between pharmaceutical and community-based organizations during a panel session at the 5 th Annual ExL Pharma Public Relations & Communications Summit on July 27, 2009 at Pfizer’s World Headquarters in New York. The session will focus on the benefits of turning the typical communications pyramid upside down, mobilizing individual consumers and their advocacy groups first. Wong will join other panelists Mark Saunders (GlaxoSmithKline, former marketing executive) and Leonard Tran (Asian Health Foundation of Southern California, executive director). The will describe a specific case study in which pharmaceutical companies and community-based organizations were able to find a common ground, work through differences, and come together to reach business and social goals to truly create a mutual win. Wong, along with these two other experts, will provide key findings from three very different perspectives – pharmaceutical, community-based non-profit, and agency – and focus on what it takes to build a successful community-based and patient-centric program. “Adopting a patient-centric, community-based approach is an innovative strategy that can be used to solve many of pharmaceutical’s current challenges – winning formulary battles, improving patient adherence and minimizing adverse events,” said Wong. “It’s important to share knowledge and lessons learned with executives about how we create such strategies and take a successful new approach to healthcare and pharma issues.” Wong leads the Pharma/Biotech Practice and oversees the creation and implementation of strategic communications for pharmaceutical and biotech clients involved in crisis, high stakes issues and key product and corporate initiatives that affect client reputation, revenue and business success. Throughout his career, Wong has helped solve the toughest business problems and reputation challenges for his clients.
