All desks facing the blackboard are a thing of the past – tomorrow’s syllabus is interactive. At the Frankfurt Book Fair, exhibitors, trade visitors and anyone who is interested will be able to experience first-hand how interactive technologies are changing the way knowledge is transferred, for teachers and students alike.
Together with our partners Visenso, VS Spezi-almöbelfabriken and Evonik Industries we will present the first ever 3D Cyber Classroom in Hall 4.2 – the exhibition area for STM & Acade-mic Publishing, Specialist Information, Tech-nology and Education. Enter a visionary space that playfully imparts science and technology to children and youths by engaging all their senses, teaching and amazing them while also animating them to move and learn by doing.
THE 3D CYBER CLASSROOM AT THE FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR Interactive teaching, powerwalls and multimedia goggles in the Classroom of the FutureNotes
3D learning modules for various subjects (Bio-logy, Chemistry, Art, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics) are available for testing by visiting classrooms or anyone else interes-ted. A team of teachers and trainers will lead the short instruction units. Learning content will also be experienced immersively and interactively on a large powerwall with a 3D cinema effect. The activities on the powerwall will additionally be transmitted to two other learning stations in the exhibition area, so-called InterActive Centres on wheels.
In the lounge, multimedia video goggles will be used to share the 3D instructional content.
Aside from the 3D modules, the area also has a Cyber Lounge with cinemizer® goggles to entertain anyone who is waiting, as well as a Student Café with snacks and drinks at reduced rates.
The 3D Cyber Classroom is a project of the Frankfurt Book Fair in cooperation with Visenso, VS Spezialmöbelfabriken and Evonik Industries.

Visenso is one of the leading providers of visu-alisation and virtual reality (VR) software and combined soft- and hardware solutions. The core element is the visualisation and VR-Soft-ware COVISE, which generates complex three-dimensional data structures and procedures through the use of visual 3D-modules that interactively involve the viewer. This software was further developed by Visenso to create the Cyber-Classroom for the education sector. With an iPad, Kinect or VRiiD (based on a Wii controller), users can immerse themselves in and interactively explore 3D worlds of learning in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathe-matics, Art, etc. The 3D learning environment is available in different versions, which have been customised depending on type of use: school, university, professional training or further education.

THE PARTNERS
Juergen Boos CEO of Frankfurt Book Fair“The 3D Cyber Classroom fits in perfectly with the tradition and mission of the Frankfurt Book Fair, to pick up on current socio-political trends and stimula-te discourse about the future. As a subsidiary of the Association of German Publishers and Booksellers, we feel particularly obliged to the issues our sector is facing and to discover new opportunities for publishers in the fields of edu-cation and innovation.”
Dr. Klaus EngelChairman of the Executive Board, Evonik Industries AG“As an education sponsor, Evonik aims to spark enthusiasm in young people for chemistry. The industrial future of Germany needs qualified new talents in the natural sciences. We implement visionary technologies in order to pioneer new forms of knowledge transfer and stimulate a fascination for learning. Even in tomorrow’s classrooms, the bottom line will always be about learning.”
Professor Dr. Thomas MüllerManaging Director of VS, an internationally renowned school and offi ce furniture manufacturer, which also supplies the Cyber-Classroom “Rooms for learning need to be well conceived, particularly in light of technolo-gical innovations and the ongoing evolution of learning methods and didactics. For circuit learning, individual and partner learning, and group instruction, flexible furnishing concepts are essential as well as a highly functional integ-ration of media and ergonomic furnishing. Ideally, the overall room design will support creative thinking and inspiration for an optimal learning environment. For us, the room is the ‘third teacher’. That's why corresponding planning and furnishing of classrooms is hugely important to attain even better learning successes.”
Martin ZimmermannManaging Director of the Visenso GmbH ”It is of special concern to me to offer our technological experience to the educational sector and thereby create an innovative knowledge transfer with immersive and interactive 3D quality. Successfully establishing a future-oriented, creative solution for schools, universities and vocational education is an exciting challenge, which we have gladly risen to as a first mover in this environment.”

THE STUDENT CAFÉ AT THE CYBER CLASSROOM
Are you exhausted by all this 3D learning? Do
your nerves need nourishment? All “cyberclass-
monauts” and Fair visitors can fortify themselves
at the Student Café. You’ll find beverages here at
reduced student prices, such as soft drinks for
only € 2.00, juices for € 3.00 and coffee or tea
starting at € 2.00.
For more energy, we also offer baguette sand-
wiches or frankfurters for € 3.00. Sweets, like
croissants and muffins, are priced starting at
€ 1.50.
You can fi nd more offers directly
at the Student Café.
SPECIAL LEARNING MODULES
Mechanical engineering Rotation and mode of action – the functionality
of differential gears Pneumatic knuckle-joint press – function and
control Hydroforming – illustrated by a car bonnet
Mathematics Point, vector, curve – lines and planes in space De Casteljau's algorithm – basic introduction
into Bézier surfaces Pythagoras – recognition of right-angled
triangles from different perspectives Reversible figures – perspectives and
three-dimensional imagination
Physics Virtual iron filings – magnetism, poles, field
lines Equipotential surface – the potential in the
electrical field Charged particles and their movement tracks Candle carousel – heat conversion into kinetic
energy
Three-dimensional chemistry – Evonik Industries brings the future of learning to schoolsChemistry classes are usually a challenge for students, due to its complex and hard to imagine teaching content. With its 3D learning modules the 3D Cyber Classroom creates non visible chemical processes in virtual reality, such as the Brownian motion, atom models or reaction equations to make it a more compre-hensible and tangible experience for students. Evonik Industries, educational sponsoring partner of the 3D Cyber Classroom, enables a successful integration of 3D-learning content for the subject of chemistry into school lessons.
Particle detector ATLAS up close – physics classes with the European Laboratory for Particle Physics CERN in GenevaExciting and up to date: CERN presents its ATLAS-particle detector in the Cyber-Class-room. Visitors will be shown the moment during which two protons collide, and the tracks of the newly produced particles that are reconstructed.
Art via immersive interaction: the virtual art museum with 3D artist Gyjho FrankVisenso helps us experience art in the virtual space. The artist Gyjho Frank from Stuttgart combines virtual reality and art in his pieces, which Visenso then presents in stereo quality in their Cyber-Classroom – a must-see for all digital art lovers.
DID YOU KNOW?The Cyber-Classroom can also be navigated
with an iPad or Kinect (video game console
Xbox 360). The Kinect supports gesture reco-
gnition, so no controller is needed. The iPad
operates via touch controls – in addition, the
iPad’s motion sensors are used.

Classrooms are pushing school books aside to make space for whiteboards, e-learning, digital learning platforms, and tablets. To illustrate this, the Frankfurt Book Fair is presenting a model classroom of the future in Hall 4.2. But what are things like in reality? Just how much digitisation do the so-called "digital natives" experience in their daily lessons?

FULL IMMERSION 3DBy using the Cyber-Classroom students act in a virtual environment and literally immerse into the contents. They are enabled to interact with the subject matters, change data or initiate particular processes. Schools confirm that students are highly motivated by means of the visual and kinaesthetic learning tools and are therefore more concentrated in lessons. Additionally, the usage of interactive 3D technologies effects not only a noticeable learning success but also a better memorization of the transfered learning matter.
