PFC signs MoU with NBPCL to fund projects worth ₹22,000 cr in Madhya Pradesh

●  Power Finance Corporation (PFC) entered into an agreement with Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd NBPCL is a wholly-owned company of Madhya Pradesh government, to fund projects worth ₹22,000 crore in the state.

●  The funds will be deployed by NBPCL for setting up hydroelectric projects of 225 MW and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects in the state.

●  The government of Madhya Pradesh has conducted the pre-feasibility study of these projects and has provided approval for their execution.

●  Some of the major multipurpose projects that will be financed under the MoU are Basaniya Multipurpose Project Dindori, Chinki Boras Multipurpose Project Narsinghpur Raisen Hoshangabad, Sakkar Pench Link Narsinghpur Chhindwara, Dudhi Project Chhindwara Hoshangabad, etc.

•  Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has launched a “WhatsApp chatbot” to address rights issue queries of its 2.6 million shareholders on the offering.

•  With a task of executing a massive Rs 53,125 crore rights issue amid a nationwide lockdown, RIL has turned to WhatsApp Chatbot which has been developed by Jio Haptik Technologies.

•  This chatbot is the first one which has been rolled out for a public offering and is available on WhatsApp.

•  As with the lockdown it would have been difficult to manage sufficient call centre service, this chatbot will address the queries of the shareholders such as: important dates related to its rights issue, rights entitlement a shareholder is eligible for, how to trade their rights entitlement, and what to do if one has physical shares and sample forms, etc.

●  Flipkart and Karnataka State Mango Department and Marketing Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), enabling mango farmers sell their fresh produce online through the Flipkart platform.

●  This mango season, consumers would have access to various varieties of the fruit across the districts of Bengaluru urban, Kolar, Haveri, Hubballi-Dharwad and Belgaum.

●  Under the MoU, the farmers would be provided market access to consumers, creating a potential revenue stream during these testing times.

●  Consumers can place orders on Flipkart's platform for several varieties of mangoes, including Alphonso, Badami, Apoos, Banganpalli, Kesar, Neelam, Himam Pasand, Sendur and Mallika, in batches of 3 kg.

●  Dugong (Dugong dugon) also called ‘Sea Cow’ is one of the four surviving species in the Order Sirenia and it is the only existing species of herbivorous mammal that lives exclusively in the sea including in India.

●  They are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and are protected in India under Schedule I of the Wild (Life) Protection Act, 1972.

●  According to a 2013 survey report of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), there were only about 200 dugongs in the Gulf of Mannar in Tamil Nadu, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat.

●  Dugongs are an important part of the marine ecosystem and their depletion will have effects all the way up the food chain.

●  Proper conservation is the only way to save dugongs from extinction.

•  डुगॉन्ग (डुगॉन्ग डगॉन) जिसे ’सी काउ’ भी कहा जाता है, ऑर्डर साइरनिया में जीवित रहने वाली चार प्रजातियों में से एक है और यह शाकाहारी स्तनधारियों की एकमात्र मौजूदा प्रजाति है जो भारत सहित समुद्र में विशेष रूप से रहती है।

●  Steps Taken for Conservation: ●  In February 2020, India hosted the 13th Conference of Parties (CoP) of the

Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), an environmental treaty under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

●  The Government of India is a signatory to the CMS since 1983. ●  India has signed non-legally binding Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with

CMS on the conservation and management of Siberian Cranes (1998), Marine Turtles (2007), Dugongs (2008) and Raptors (2016).

●  The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change constituted a ‘Task Force for Conservation of Dugongs’ to look into issues related to conservation of dugongs and implementation of the ‘UNEP/CMS Dugong MoU’ in India.

●  It also facilitates India to act as the leading nation in the South Asia Sub-region with respect to dugong conservation.

●  In July, China will launch its first Mars mission, the ‘Tianwen-1’, which is expected to land on the Red Planet’s surface in the first quarter of 2021.

●  Tianwen-1, an all-in-one orbiter, lander and rover will search the Martian surface for water, ice, investigate soil characteristics, and study the atmosphere, among other objectives.

●  The Tianwen-1 mission will lift off on a Long March 5 rocket.

●  The success of the mission will make China the third country to achieve a Mars landing after the USSR and the United States.

●  The Chinese mission is expected to take off in late July, around the same time when NASA is launching its own Mars mission– the ambitious ‘Perseverance’ which aims to collect Martian samples and bring them back to Earth in a two-part campaign.

●  Tianwen-1 Mission ●  It will lift off on a Long March 5 rocket, from the Wenchang launch centre. ●  It will carry 13 payloads (seven orbiters and six rovers) that will explore the planet. ●  It is an all-in-one orbiter, lander and rover system. ●  Orbiter: It is a spacecraft designed to orbit a celestial body (astronomical body) without landing on its surface. ●  Lander: It is a strong, lightweight spacecraft structure, consisting of a base and three sides "petals" in the shape of

a tetrahedron (pyramid-shaped). It is a protective "shell" that houses the rover and protects it, along with the airbags, from the forces of impact.

●  Rover: It is a planetary surface exploration device designed to move across the solid surface on a planet or other planetary mass celestial bodies.

●  Mars ●  It is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the

Solar System. ●  Mars is about half the size of Earth. ●  As Mars orbits the Sun, it completes one rotation every 24.6 hours, which is

very similar to one day on Earth (23.9 hours). ●  Mars' axis of rotation is tilted 25 degrees with respect to the plane of its orbit

around the Sun. This is similar with Earth, which has an axial tilt of 23.4 degrees.

●  Martian days are called sols—short for ‘solar day’. ●  The reason Mars looks reddish is due to oxidation or rusting of iron in the

rocks, and dust of Mars. Hence it is also called Red Planet. ●  Mars has the largest volcano in the solar system i.e. Olympus Mons. It's three

times taller than Earth's Mt. Everest with a base the size of the state of New Mexico.

●  The temperature on Mars can be as high as (20 degrees Celsius) or as low as about -153 degrees Celsius. This is because the thin atmosphere gives an easy escape to sun heat.

●  Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, that may be captured asteroids.

•  When completed and operational, the new plane will be able to carry an array of advanced missiles and bombs, including hypersonic weapons.

•  The aircraft, known as the PAK DA, will compete with the US B-2 strategic stealth bomber which entered service in 1997.

•  China is also developing its own stealth bomber - the Xian H-20.

•  Russia has already developed its own stealth fighter, the Sukhoi-57.
