Our Time for Critical Engagement

Forum 2010

• The creation of the Program Leadership Team– Created in 2004 after the Associate Director left– It was known that the Associate Director position

would not be refilled in a timely manner– There was an immediate need for a structure to

organize and oversee program planning, program evaluation, and program reporting

Looking back

Forum 2010

Our Time for Critical Engagement

Forum 2010

• Large group of agents and specialists met– Lots of processes, cussing and discussing– Recommended basic concepts of work teams– Organized around program areas– Oversight by a committee

• Smaller committee formed to create the structure based on recommendations of the larger group

The Creation Process of PLT

• Core Competency Areas (CCAs)– Six major areas in which most programming would be done based on then

CSREES Initiatives

• Work teams– We started with 21 Work Teams– Some Work Teams also included sub-teams

• PLT composition– CCA leaders, Regional Directors, and Assistant Directors from State Office

as appointed

• In late 2009 and 2010, we recognized a need to revisit the structure and functioning of PLT

• The Mission of the agency was the same, but there was a need to change ourselves, culturally

• Emphasis Areas of change:– Oversight and management of programming efforts– More emphasis on program evaluation and reporting

How are we different now?

• Different team structures are designed to meet different needs– Target audience(s) needs– Knowledge base needs

• The teams will most likely change over time– Dynamic as conditions and needs change– Prepare for unexpected needs– Directions will be determined by the Teams based on demand and

staffing• CSUE addresses the major issues impacting the citizens of
