Message from the Principal
Welcome back to Term 3, I trust that everyone had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed catching up with family and friends. It is lovely to see our students back smiling and ready for another exciting term.
NAIDOC week
Last Wednesday we celebrated NAIDOC week. This year, we ran the event in a new way. The whole school moved around different stations, so that everybody had the opportunity to experience Indigenous ways to look at science, narrative, art, film and culture. We want to especially thank Mr John Blair who performed a smoking ceremony for the whole school and ran an fantastic workshop. Thank you so much Mr Blair for sharing your knowledge with our school, we are learning new ways to understand and appreciate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture every day.
At Canterbury South Public School, we ensure all students achieve success at their own level!
Dr Michael Carr-Gregg - Parent and Carer Forum
In collaboration with other inner west public schools, we have organised a parent and carer forum with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg on the topic of raising happy and resilient children and teenagers. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is one of Australia's highest profile psychologists, author of 11 books, broadcaster and a specialist in parenting, children, adolescents and the use of technology for mental health.
The forum will take place from 7:00pm on Thursday 23 August at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club.
Tickets are free but you must book your spot at www.trybooking .com/XFCZ
Please note that this is an adults only event so we ask you to make your own arrangements for child minding.
P&C Meeting
Next week we will be holding the first P&C meeting of the term. This P&C meeting will take place in the library where representatives from MACE (Project Managers), NBRS (Architects), DoE Communications Manager and Director for Canterbury Network.
If you would like to know where the new rebuild is at and the journey so far, please come along!
TUESDAY 7 AUGUST 7pm
Primary OSCH Care
For those parents who are currently accessing the Before and After School Care Service tendered by
Primary OSCH Care, you will know that a tender process must take place once the terms of the contract expire. For our service, that time is October 2018. I understand that there has been some community conversation around the service and how it will be affected in the period leading into the new build. I have listened to and taken on board your concerns. In consultation with the Department of Education and Primary OSCH Care, I have decided to extend the contact for another two years, putting the tender process on hold. Both the DoE and Primary OSCH Care have accepted the terms.
Mrs Patching
Such wonderful news, Mrs Patching and her family have welcomed an adorable baby girl into their family. Sophia Elise was born on 12 July. Both mum and bub are doing very well. We look forward to a visit from them soon.
