WOMEN’S CONFERENCE October 11 8:30 am

HANDLING LIFE

Fountain City Wesleyan Church 5600 US 27 North

PRESENTED BY: THE WAYNE COUNTY FOUNDATION

The Wayne County Foundation exists to foster and encourage private philanthropic giving, to enhance the spirit of community and to improve the quality of life in the Wayne County area now and for future generations.

The Wayne County Foundation is pleased to bring you this one-day Women’s Leadership Conference.

8:30 – 10:30 Opening Session The Happiness AdvantageWaiting for the right things to happen to make us happy limits the brain’s potential for success. Research now confirms that our success is contingent upon happiness, not the other way around. Learn how to cultivate a positive brain that leads to more motivated, efficient, resilient, creative and productive behavior for maximum performance. Using the seven principles of the Happiness Advantage, Carla Messer will help participants explore how to leverage happiness to create a positive place for success to blossom.

10:45 – 11:45 MORNING WORKSHOPS (You will attend one)

Managing ConflictIn this workshop, Elvinet Piard will introduce participants to conflict and impression management and will include discussions and activities that will focus on how women - in particular - approach conflict. Participants will have a chance to reflect on their own stories of conflict and complete a questionnaire that helps them reflect on their unique approach.

Handling Life ChangesSometimes you just get the feeling you should get some advice before you move forward with something new. From the moment you graduate to the time of your death, you will encounter many life changes. Join attorney Amy Noe and financial advisor Valerie Porter as they take you on a journey through life and suggest where you might make a stop at your attorney’s or financial advisor’s office before continuing on.

11:45 – 12:45 Lunch, networking and learning about givingEnjoy your lunch by The Tin Lizzie Café while you network with other attendees.

After lunch, Rachel Hughes will share insights into the Foundation’s grant process and allow you to be the grant committee for a while.

1:00 – 2:00 AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS (You will attend two)

Balancing LifeJuggling the work/life balance has more to do with how we’re socially constructed than what is on our busy schedules. Some people just seem to be able to get more done than others and experience less stress while doing it. Join Carla Messer as she helps participants understand how our deeply rooted beliefs about work, home, and self, create the perfect storm for imbalances. Best practices and awareness tools will be shared for understanding why our lives get out of balance and what to do about it.

Capturing MomentsSmart phones are everywhere we go now, which means that most of us have a decent camera at hand to capture quick snaps and fun moments as they arise. In this session, Lynn McLemore offers some tips and tricks to help with composition, framing, handy apps and features to make the most out of the photography studio in your pocket.

Imagining the Future – moderated by Becky Codiano, owner, Therapeutic SolutionsHave you ever thought of owning your own business? Perhaps a unique boutique, a cupcake business or just an etsy spot online? Come discover the ins and outs of owning or managing a business.
