If you know of anyone who is in the hospital, will be going into the hospital, or wouldlike a home visit, please feel free to contact Pastor Scott Bowerman at 803-608-1484.

You can also reach him by email [email protected]. The pastor

is in his office most mornings, M-F, 8:30am to 12:00pm. Please call the

church at 264-4113 to verify that he is in.

I write this the day after a wonderful Easter Sunday at Central. We celebrated the resurrection of

the Lord Jesus Christ at two packed worship services that left me exhilarated (and just a wee bit

tired!). Ive enjoyed a deeply meaningful journey through Lent and Easter with you. As I

preached on Easter morning, theres a risen Christ on the loose, calling us to follow him into theworld and I wonder, what does that mean next for Central Presbyterian?

To answer that question, were moving into a season of discerning the will of the Holy Spirit for

our church. To lead this process, the Session last week appointed a Discernment Task Force

whose mission is Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, to discern how we can adjust our

worship and Christian Education schedule so we can more effectively fulfill our mission: To

share the living waters of Jesus Christ with all who thirst. One specific challenge before us is

the time of the first service - 8:30am is simply too early for the service to fulfill its purpose of

    attracting un-churched and de-churched people.

The Task Force will report to the Session, and the Session is keenly aware of the challenges

inherent in changing a churchs Sunday morning schedule. Please be assured that any proposed

changes will be considered not as a matter of personal convenience, but whether they will enable

us to fulfill the mission to which Christ has called Central. Further, any proposed changes will

be presented to the congregation for thorough discussion in order to hear your comments, but

also so we can be open to the voice of the Spirit speaking through the congregation.

The Task Force is composed of Scott Wiley (chair), Jim Sharp, Tammy Carbaugh, Luella Smith,

Pat McNamee and Mike Herbert. Please be in regular prayer for these friends in Christ who will

lead us to seek Gods will for our church.

JOY VILLAGE UPDATEWhat is the price of poverty, neglect and ignorance? In Kenya, the cost is devastating.

Once a week, a medical team travels to a remote village named Kiserian to care for HIV/AIDS pa-

tients. In a distant family compound with small huts made of sticks and cow manure, they visited

three women and sixteen children. All are HIV-positive; yet all refuse life-saving treatment. They

will probably be dead in five years. After pleading with them to seek help, the team sorrowfully left

    the compound.

The next visit was to a tidy farm run by a woman named Josephine. Her husband had died of AIDS,

and she herself is HIV-positive. But she has begun ARV treatment and is now living a productive

life with her two sons. She is optimistic and thankful for her health care and family support.

Christians help to heal the sick. In supporting Joy Village, we are saving its young residents from the

    disease that is ravaging Africa.
