These pur- chases were part of the Central Vision campaign, and gave the church the necessary real estate footprint to build Friendship Hall, as well as addional parking. Some thought was also given to converng the bank building to a contemporary worship center at some point in the future. The bank has been occupied by a series of banks since our purchase, but last month Santander Bank in- formed us they are vacang the property as of May 15, 2015, with lease, tax and ulity payments connu- ing through the end of their current lease unl December 31, 2015. This month the Session formed a Task Force whose mission is “To develop plans for the use or disposion of the Bank and Wholeness Center properes for acon by the Session, Congregaon and Carlisle Presby- tery.” The members are Sco Wiley, Sam Worley, Don Weber, Tom Diehl, Sco Bowerman, Kathy Klink, Trena Oyler, Charles Hart, Alex Shearer, Pat Shreiner and Tim Smith. The Task Force has already met twice. The queson before us is basically, do we keep the building(s) in order to use them for ministry at some point in the future, or do we sell one or both? Each course of acon poses significant challenges, such as: Leasing the bank to any tenant other than another bank will require the church to bring the building up to ADA, fire and other code standards at a sll-unknown but significant cost. Use of the bank by another type of tenant will require the tenant to invest a lot of money to convert the building for other use, liming its marketability. The bank building has very poor parking access. The second and third floors of the wholeness center are condemned and the cost to improve them would be not be worth the return. Many other challenges and quesons are before us as well. Our work has some urgency, given that the bank building standing empty will impose a large financial liability on the church beginning January 2016. However, the Borough of Chambersburg, the Chamber of Commerce, Franklin County and other agencies are eager to help us find an appropriate use for these properes. The bank building has already been shown to three potenal tenants. Continued Page 3, bottom

Back in 1999, Central purchased three properties - the bank building next to the church, the current Whole-ness Center next to the bank, and the parking lot on Lincoln Way West across from the church. These pur-chases were part of the Central Vision campaign, and gave the church the necessary real estate footprint to build Friendship Hall, as well as additional parking. Some thought was also given to converting the bank building to a contemporary worship center at some point in the future. The bank has been occupied by a series of banks since our purchase, but last month Santander Bank in-formed us they are vacating the property as of May 15, 2015, with lease, tax and utility payments continu-ing through the end of their current lease until December 31, 2015. This month the Session formed a Task Force whose mission is To develop plans for the use or disposition of the Bank and Wholeness Center properties for action by the Session, Congregation and Carlisle Presby-tery. The members are Scott Wiley, Sam Worley, Don Weber, Tom Diehl, Scott Bowerman, Kathy Klink, Trena Oyler, Charles Hart, Alex Shearer, Pat Shreiner and Tim Smith. The Task Force has already met twice. The question before us is basically, do we keep the building(s) in order to use them for ministry at some point in the future, or do we sell one or both? Each course of action poses significant challenges, such as: Leasing the bank to any tenant other than another bank will require the church to bring the building up

to ADA, fire and other code standards at a still-unknown but significant cost. Use of the bank by another type of tenant will require the tenant to invest a lot of money to convert

the building for other use, limiting its marketability. The bank building has very poor parking access. The second and third floors of the wholeness center are condemned and the cost to improve them

Dear Personnel Committee, Thank you so much for all your ongoing tokens of support for the staff. Thanks so much for all your cards and the latest, that lovely sham-rock plant! May God bless you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. The Staff at Central

Dear Central Members, The flowers from Centrals altar sent to me along with the signed well wishes from you were most welcome. They made the snowy days so much brighter. Thank you for thinking of me and bright-ening up these long winter days. Sincerely, Selma W. Thomson

Greetings Pastor Bowerman: I write on behalf of both myself and Kingsley (my son) to thank you and the church for affording us your support and assistance in making Kingsleys birthday a success. We missed your presence and those of others, but we know that you were all there in mind and spirit which added to the richness of the fun and experience that we all enjoyed. I would appreciate your extending our gratitude to all members as well, if possible. Again thank you for all your support and assistance. Sincerely, Nathan (& Kingsley) Idio Member & Proud Dad of the celebrant)

Central Family, The past few years I have had many physical chal-lenges, but through it all I have felt the love of God and my loving church family. I thank you for the prayers, cards, flowers, meals, smiles, understand-ing and support. I am also grateful for the love shown to my family and me when my mother died. Central is a family of Christians who freely imitate the love and caring shown by Christ. I am thankful to have such a wonderful church family. Thank you for the continued support, Dottie Bush

The Mission Team would like to thank everyone who prepared and delivered meals to the Cold Weather Drop-In Shelter this winter. Your gener-osity and willingness to step forward has not gone unnoticed. The residents look forward to a warm nourishing meal and more importantly know that they are not forgotten in this community. Thank You, Your Mission Team

Heres what I ask of you: Pray for the work of the Task Force - for the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit Contribute your ideas for how the church could possibly use these properties for ministry, sending

them to Kathy Klink at [email protected]. Please extend grace to me personally, as a good deal of my time is now devoted to the work of the Task Force, reducing the time available for other ministry. God has a marvelous way of transforming chal-lenges into opportunities and giving us new possibilities we couldnt have dreamt of on our own. Ill keep you informed as we make progress.

For more information, please see Jean Diehl or Laurie McKelvie.

HAVE YOU SEEN ME? Hello there. I, and several of my friends, left the kitchen and set off on a great adventure in the church. However, we got lost along the way and cant find our way back home. The Happy Wanderers in-clude two wooden stools, a dozen square wicker baskets, several serving platters (especially the large ones), several large plastic serving bowls, and a silver cart. If you see one of us, or hear a voice whispering, Are you my mother? would you kindly guide us back to our home in the kitchen. We miss our home and are sad that we havent been able to help with church meals.

    Thank you so much!

What a month March was! From finishing up a great 30 Hour Famine to participating in

the CHAT Youth Rally to rehearsing for Holy Week happenings, weve been experiencing Gods provision and grace in a real way! Thank you to all of our volunteers who continue to make our youth ministry run we appreciate you SO

MUCH! Also, THANK YOU to all of the incredibly generous donors that have been giving to our youth mission fund so freely! Your giving hearts are what keep us going!

Things to look forward to this month: April 3rd 7pm Experience the Passion of Christ April 26th 10am Youth Sunday combined service

sin didnt, and doesnt, have a chance in competition with the aggressive for-

giveness we call grace. When its sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin

can do is threaten us with death, and thats the end of it. Grace, because God is put-

ting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into lifea life that

goes on and on and on, world without end. Romans 5:20-21, MSG

    NEWS

JOY VILLAGE UPDATE Recently on National Public Radio, there was a piece about the ebola epi-demic in Africa. Children, they said, were hit the worst (which is no surprise). But the point made was that the kids who received love and affection healed faster than those who didnt. All medical workers know this. They call it failure to thrive. What a blessing that Joy Village is set up the way it is, with each small group of children loved and cared for by a mother, and taught Christs love as well. Africa, with all its needs, has many orphanages supported by folks all over the world. Lets hope that many of them are set up like Joy Village, of-fering not just food for the body but for the soul. Lets thank God for Joy Village, and always pray for its young residents and their moms.

Craig Doyle, our project manager for the recent Casavant Organ renovations, unexpectedly passed away recently. He will be greatly missed in the organ circles locally as he had worked more recently with Moller Organ Company, then Hagerstown Organ Company. We at Central Presbyterian are grateful for his expertise in this pro-ject, especially with all the electrical wiring that is hidden behind the console's wooden panel, and also appreciate all that he has so will-ingly done for Central Presbyterian over many past years. Thank you, Craig, for a job well done!!!

SESSION ACTIONSMARCH 2015 Session took the following actions at its March meeting. If you have any questions, please talk to one of the Elders: Brenda Black, George Cowley, Bill Daniels, Linda Igou, Pat McNamee, Jim Sharp, Alex Shearer, Karl Shreiner, Luella Smith, Don Weber, Scott Wiley, Sam Worley, or Kathryn Finley, Clerk.

Asked the Finance Committee to determine a suitable volunteer contribution to the borough of Chambersburg to assist in covering the cost of police and fire protection. (State law requires the Borough to use only real estate taxes as the primary source of revenue to pay for police and fire protection. Therefore, they are asking non-profit organizations to voluntarily pay half of what the property taxes would be if their real estate was taxable.)

Approved a revised communion schedule. Communion will be served on: March 22 (7:00 PM), April 2 (intinction), April 12, May 31, July 12, August 2, September 6, October 4, November 9, and January 3, 2016.

Approved the request to observe a Service for Wholeness on March 22, at 7:00 PM.

Agreed to host the Presbytery Evangelism Conference on Saturday September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The conference will cover basic hospitality for churches.

Approved the recommendation to have the conference leader, the Rev. Chris Walker, preach at Central on Sunday September 27.

Elected to Karl Shreiner and Linda Igou to serve as commissioners to the April 9 Presbytery meet-ing. (Linda Igou is no longer able to attend so Kathryn Finley will serve in her place.)

    Combined Services for 2015

Since Marchs fifth Sunday was Palm Sunday, a day of worship where we likely would not have been able to accommodate

everyone in the Sanctuary or in the Friendship Hall, we chose

not have a combined fifth Sunday service.

But, remember to mark your calendars for these dates!

Combined Services for 2015 will take place at 10am on:

April 26th Youth Sunday in Friendship Hall

July 5th Mission Team commissioned; service in Sanctuary

August 23 Mission Team report; service in Friendship Hall

We look forward to seeing you there !

CPC Finances Through the first eleven weeks of 2015, our giving is 7.6% higher than for the same period in 2014. Both giving versus pledges and loose offerings are right on forecast. What is encouraging about our giving is this happened during a period that saw snow and plunging temperatures on Sunday Mornings. As you know, we have made available donations by credit card utilizing the CPC website (just click on the donate icon), and we are now able to do automatic drafts from your checking account on specific days of each month. Just re-quest a form with full instructions from Missy Igou by calling the church or emailing her at [email protected]. Thank you for getting Central off to a great start financially for 2015.
