Main objective
Sustainable improvement of yields, cotton quality, and income of producers and cotton companies
Main interventions• Training and extension of best
practices; • Production and distribution of
cotton-made harvesting kits;• Promotion and installation of
humidification systems in ginneries;
Film cotton contamination
Main results (1)• Sustainable yield increases• Easy recovery of investments
in humidification equipment (1-2 seasons)
• Improved quality of cotton in target areas (top grade + 8%, increased fiber length)
Main results (2)Reduced contamination:• Overall contamination (trash included) :
– Seed cotton: reduction from 11 to 6 kg/Mt
– Fiber: reduction from 6 to 4 kg/mT• Polypropylene contamination
– In seed cotton: reduction from 4 to 1 g/MT
– in fiber: reduction from 3 to 1 g/MT
Recommendations• General adoption of
innovations by all cotton companies
• More emphasis on marketing of Africa cotton to improve its image
