Preface:

Solar Trading Company is a household name in the automobile industry in Bangladesh which

was established in the year 1962 by my beloved father Late Syed Nurul Huda. The company is

celebrating it’s 50 years of operations.

The era witnessed various ups & downs in the country’s political, economical & social

atmosphere. The decision of division of Bengal by British Govt. created devastating misfortune

for the people of the then East Pakistan. It was India who stood by and fought for release of East

Pakistan from the rule of the then West Pakistan. In 1971 our motherland Bangladesh came into

existence.

We were:

My father actually hails from Tangail District of Bangladesh and came to Dhaka to earn

livelihood and since then the company started doing tyre retreading business. There was no

tyre manufacturing company in Bangladesh and previous experience of tyre retreading helped

us to get acquainted with various brands such as MRF, Goodyear, Modi, Dunlop and Apollo etc.

These were mostly imported from India. This was an opportunity for us in disguise and tyre

retreading business got momentum.

Who am I:

Syed Nurul Arefeen is the sole proprietor of the company. His academic qualification is B.Com

(Hons.) from Dhaka University and also completed Executive MBA from Deen University,

Lucknow, India. And he is a sponsor Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd, a schedule

commercial bank of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

We are:

It was my father’s intension to do tyre business directly from India. In the year 1985 I started

with MRF tyres and continued for upto 2002 with a great reputation & establishment. Then

switch to “The Unbeatable” Birla Tyre. Today our business is operated through an efficient and

strong distribution chain of 52 distributors scattered all over the country which is no. 1 Brand

in Bangladesh.

Presently our annual turnover for Birla Tyre is about Tk. 85 crore that is 1.2 million US$.

Market Study:

Solar Trading Company is conducting the market study by their own judgment. They conduct

this market study on the basis of size, pattern and ply rating irrespective of different brands.

They collect information from their listed distributors and their own personnel while

conducting the market study.

Go-down:

Solar has 3 (Three) ware house in Dhaka city: One in Motijheel, two in Banglabazer. Solar

maintain these go-downs on rental basis.

Bangladesh are acquainted with various foreign brands. My experience with Solar Autos,

distributor of Bajaj Motorcycle opened my eyes and provoked me to enter into the two wheeler

market. One the contrary Suzuki brand in my country with the strength of my countrywide

presence.
