    Jessies The June Callwood Centre for Young Womenis a multi-service resource centre for

    pregnant teenagers, young parents and their children. Jessies work includes a broad spectrum of

    services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessies operates from a

    feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a womans right to make

    choices about her sexual health and pregnancy options. We strive to demonstrate our

    commitment to feminism, anti-discrimination and positive social change in every aspect of ourstructure and functioning. Jessies staff and participants (clients) come from diverse cultures and

    sexual orientations. Having a rich history in working with diverse populations is fundamental to

    this role.

    The Community Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the Community Education

    Program, which delivers public education to internal and external groups regarding the

    experiences and needs of young families and provides information about Jessies Centre. This role

    is also responsible for internal event planning for participants (clients), specifically summer

    outings, March Break events and as a key member of the annual Holiday Party committee.

    Responsibilities:

    Community Education Program (CEP)

    Recruit and train young parents (members) to share their personal experiences andrealities to different audiences

    Perform outreach to appropriate venues in the city to increase community awareness ofthe issues related to teen pregnancy and parenting. This may include youth groups, schools,

    education and training institutions for fields working with adolescents and families, policy

    and funding stakeholders, and media.

    Respond to and coordinate requests for speakers

    Schedule speakers for engagements Prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations for a variety of audiences Evaluate and update presentations on a regular basis Support other agency staff in preparation and delivery of presentations, when necessary Prepare resource materials for distribution and information displays for community fairs Create and administer qualitative and quantitative evaluations to audience members Compile statistical information, documentation and reporting Maintain a procedure manual for the Community Education Program. Provide direct practical supportive counselling and assistance to participants

    Maintain current on matters related to sexual health, sexuality, teen pregnancy andsystemic barriers that young families face

    Train, support, supervise and evaluate the work of placement students Document case notes, as necessary, in client database Act as agency liaison for various media requests Represent Jessies in supporting United Way Torontos Speakers Bureau by conducting

    tours and speaking at campaign launches and other events

    Internal Event Planning

    Work with Executive Director to identify funding possibilities and assist in writingproposals to various sources requesting financial and in-kind support

    Create a budget for designated events Liaise with staff and participants to identify desired programs and activities Perform tasks such as purchasing tickets, booking transportation and logistical

    considerations

    Consult with trip facilitators and staff about details and responsibilities Act as a key member of the annual Holiday Party committee, which serves to provide our

    participants and their children with a social gathering and gifts

    Compile statistical information, documentation and reportingAgency expectations

    Support overall service delivery by being responsive to direct service needs (i.e. reception,Parent-Child Centre, other duties as required)

    Participate in discussion and/or decision making within Jessies participatoryorganizational structure

    Attend staff meetings, trainings and agency functions as appropriate Participate in internal and external meetings; liaise with community organizations and

    networks

    Commit to serving on an internal staff/board committee

    Qualifications

    Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle Strong public speaking experience Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision Advocacy skills Ability to understand and apply principles of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and feminist

    framework as needed

    Creative problem solving skills Ability to interact effectively with participants, volunteers, community members and

    agency personnel, both individually and on a committee level Advanced computer and administrative skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good written and verbal presentation skills Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to time manage effectively and meet

    deadlines

    Knowledge of resources available to young families in the GTA Demonstrated experience in working with those dealing with issues related to poverty,

    housing, social assistance, discrimination, child welfare, health and parenting

    Flexibility to work some evenings and weekend days
