New Voting Papers to be IssuedVoter packs for the 2012 TECT Trustee election were mailed to eligible consumers on 28th June using an address file supplied by Trustpower. Unfortunately, it has now been found that the address information included a range of errors which has compromised the delivery of a significant number of voter packs. As the Independent Returning Officer for this election, I have taken the following steps to rectify this situation:

1. All originally issued voting papers have been cancelled with any votes cast to date declared null and void.

2. The internet voting site for this election has been closed and all votes deleted.

3. A new voting period extending from Thursday 26 July 2012 to 12 noon on Friday 17 August 2012 has been set.

4. Replacement voter packs will be sent to eligible consumers on Thursday 26 July 2012. It is expected that those packs will be delivered by Monday 30 July at the latest.

Candidates standing for election remain the same and can continue to campaign until the revised close of voting at 12 noon on Friday 17 August 2012. Consumers still holding original voter packs are asked to destroy them.

All parents want to keep their children

safe. However many are ignorant of the dangers that young

people are faced with in the internet age. It is common for par-

ents to say “I would have done things differently if only I had more infor-mation”. Don’t wait until something goes wrong; come along to Net Safe

to learn what safe guards you can put in place.

Net Safe is a free workshop for parents covering topics such as Facebook, internet and cell phones. Youth pastor Aaron More will give practical tips on how to ensure your teens’ safety, while maintaining your relationship.

Net Safe starts 7pm on Sunday July 15 at Tauranga City Elim Church, 14 Christopher Street.

Workshop teaches net safety for parents

A disciple & a disciple-maker

By Peter Whitcombe, Jesus First

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus declares “All authority in

heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,

baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching

them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold,

I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In giving us this Great Commission, Jesus commands those who are true disciples, to go into all the earth with the clearly defi ned purpose of making disciples. As disciples, we are to be disciple-makers. We are not called to get people to “accept Jesus” or to “make a decision for Jesus”, which is how the gospel is often presented today, even though those terms and the message contained in those terms is unbiblical. Instead, Jesus says “make disciples”.

So, what is a disciple, according to Scripture? A clear defi nition is that a disciple of Christ is someone who has been born again by the Spirit of God, through repentance for the forgiveness of sins and through faith in Christ, and who then lives as a wholehearted fol-lower of Christ.

There is much in that defi nition but to be a disciple and a disciple-maker, we must understand that the gospel message is a message of repentance. Any so-called gospel message without repent-

ance, is not the gospel of the Bible, it is another gospel. Jesus says in Luke 24:46-47, “Thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance [with a view to and as the condition of ] forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” (Amplifi ed Bible).

On the Day of Pentecost when the crowd cried out “what must we do to be saved?”, Peter replied in Acts 2:38, “Repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” He says further in Acts 3:19, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.”

Paul says in Acts 17:30, ‘the times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent” and in Acts 26:20 that we “should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.” Genuine repentance is essential for the forgiveness of sins and forgiveness of sins is essential for salva-tion. To be a disciple we need to have come to Christ through repentance and to be a disciple-maker, we need to present the gospel that Jesus commis-sioned us to present, which is a gospel of repentance for the forgiveness of sin.

To be a disciple, we need to be whole-hearted followers. To be disciple-makers, through the message of repentance, we need to teach and train others to be wholehearted followers.
