Beauty for Ashes ministry is an interdenominational and international ministry based

on Isaiah 61: “To bind up the broken hearted and set the

captives free.”Commonly termed BFA was

founded by Tauranga pastors Toni and Jim Butler in 1991. They run regular seminars here and in other places through invitation from differ-ent churches, including a mission trip to Fiji to minister to precious Indian women.

Jim and Tonia were ordained in the ministry in 1999 and pioneered and pastored two Pentecostal churches in Tairua and Whakatane.

Their heart is for people who have come through the lonely hardships

of life with the Good News of Jesus Christ – bringing Salvation, healing and wholeness and renewed hope. They love quipping and encouraging those people with the news that “life is worth living” through the awesome power of the Holy Spirit.

BFA is a faith-based ministry rely-ing on God’s provision and the love of His people to impact lives. It is motivational with teachings with a prophetic edge.

Romans 12:2 says: “Do not be conformed to

this world, [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superfi cial customs], but be transformed by the [entire]

renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and

its new attitude].” – Amplifi ed Bible.

As born again believers, our old (inherent) Adamic nature was founded in sin (self-seeking rebellion and independence) has been crucifi ed with Christ – it has been buried with Him in baptism and through new birth we have a new heart and a new spirit.

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” (2 Corin-thians 5:27).

Galatians 2:20 says “I have been crucifi ed with Christ.

It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me”, and so as true believers we live in union with Christ – empowered, directed and enabled by the Holy Spirit.

Although a true Christian is a new creation in his heart, in his nature, in his innermost being, in that essential nature which governs who he is in Christ; his body and his soul (mind, will and emotions) have not been changed.

We still retain our personal intrinsic identity. This means that the “memory bank” of life’s experiences and the habitual ways we have responded to life in our thinking, in our emotions and in our choices, are unchanged through new birth and they are in need of renewal.

Accordingly, we must learn to trans-form our thinking, our emotional responses and the exercise of our wills to refl ect the fact that Christ is living in us and through us.

We need to build new thought pat-terns and new ways of responding to life’s situations and circumstances. It is only as we consistently choose to align our thinking and emotions with God’s word and His ways that transforma-tion and renewal takes place.

The devil usually uses personal pronouns when he accuses us, so he

says to you, for example: “God doesn’t love you! If He did,

He wouldn’t allow these circumstances.”
