Transcript of Circus Revival

CIRCUS REVIVALVijayawada is primarily an Industrial town. Its the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh housing a population of 1,491,202 people. The city is politically active, agriculturally rich, and is an industrial transportation hub, having one of the largest railway station of India. But it lags behind in interactive/ recreational spaces. There are very few means of entertainment available in Vijayawada. And some of them are seasonal or periodic. The city has Bhavani Islands, Raghavayya Park, Haailand Amusement Park, Sightseeing at Kanakadurga, movie theatres, etc. Moreover at the PWD Grounds, periodically exhibitions or fairs are held. The Vijayawada crowd is very enthusiastic in welcoming these nomadic tribes to exhibit their acts and sell their handicrafts and products. There are a chain of acrobats to jugglers who entertain and cater to the ever changing taste of the audience. But unfortunately these performers are nomadic tribes who tend to wander through one town to another, showcasing their skills. They end up in meager earnings, no or little education for their children, unsafe environment and unsecured living. Hence, I would like to design a platform i.e. The Circus for these unprivileged tribes to stabilize their living and occupation, providing them a better shelter and proper means of education, a center to perform, a base for their culture, and a safer environment to perform. It will also act as school where the artists would be trained and polished to perform safely. They would also have a wing which would travel through many towns and cities exhibiting their skills. They also have an option to work on public awareness; they can present street acts and shows in order to highlight some issues. By doing this they can also render help and support from NGOs and the Government. This topic will also bring about a deeper study of Portable Flexible architecture. It would talk about Fabric membranes with steel frames. These frames can be altered occasionally thus breaking the monotony of the structure. Morover these structures will be portable i.e. the overall characteristic of the building will be ever evolving and ever changing, thus inviting the curiosity of the people.
