1847-1890 president Wilford Woodfuff’s manifesto declared his intention to abide by U.S. law forbidding plural marriage

black men were ordained to the priesthood In 1852, President Brigham Young publicly

announced that men of black African descent could not be ordained to the priesthood

Blacks were allowed to be baptized 1978, after “spending many hours in the Upper

Room of the Salt Lake Temple supplicating the Lord for divine guidance,” Church President Spencer W. Kimball reversed the restriction
