• 1921 – Council’s M.E.D – Charging batteries of 51 vehicles (40 privately owned and 11 Council owned
• City’s refuse destructor - Powered generators driven by steam engines
• M.E.D offered hire-purchase agreements to assist companies and individuals to purchase electric vehicles

• 2013 – Three battery electric vehicles – Test and for promotion
• 2016 – Additional two electric vehicles

• Council initiated, researched and developed the city-wide 100% battery electric car sharing scheme for businesses and the public
• Recruited landlords to secure designated off-street parking spaces for the scheme’s battery electric vehicles and related charging infrastructure
• Recruited foundation members to go to market for the service

Council went to market to secure a service provider – Yoogo Share was procured to provide the service

Officially launched on 15 February 2018 for businesses and for the public
How Does The Yoogo Share Service Work?
75 battery electric vehicles – owned and maintained by Yoogo Share
Car sharing hubs at:
• Art Gallery, West End and The Crossing car park
• Fendalton and Papanui Libraries
• Lyttelton Community Centre
• Christchurch International Airport
How Does The Yoogo Share Service Work?
• On-line booking system
• Pay by time
• Keyless car entry
• First stage - Hyundai Ioniq and BMWi3
• Dedicated car sharing off-street car parks with chargers
• Start with A to A model then A to B model
City’s Use of the Yoogo Share Service
• 4,700+ registered business and private members
• 40+ organisations have signed-up to the service
• To date already saved an estimated 150+ tonnes of CO2-e emissions

• There is the potential to reduce the number of vehicles in Christchurch
Battery Electric Buses
• Council worked with Red Bus on researching available battery electric bus technology
• Christchurch Agency for Energy funding support
• In July this year Red Bus will have 3 battery electric zero exhaust emission buses to service the airport to Bus Interchange route
• This route carries 200,000 passengers annually
