REST IN THE LORD For several weeks we have listened to readings that have recounted just how arduous the work of prophets and disciples can be. In today’s Gospel, the Lord Jesus listens to the reports of those he had sent out “two by two” to minister to the people. After the apostles reported what they had done, Jesus, recognizing their fatigue, says, “Come away by yourselves to a de-serted place and rest awhile” (Mark 6:31). Perhaps this is what the Lord is telling his disciples in the year 2018 as well. We need to pause on our jour-ney of discipleship and simply rest in the Lord. Sunday Mass provides many opportunities for quiet times, particularly during the periods of si-lence following the readings. Why not take the time today to allow the sav-ing word of the Lord to penetrate your heart during those silent times? TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The American Revolution cleared the way for freedom of religion in the former colonies, since the colonies had always been a more religious-ly tolerant place than the old country. Even so, colonial laws restricted the practice of the Catholic faith, and just as in England, Americans who desired to be priests or nuns had to go to the Netherlands or France. As political storm clouds gathered in France, an American woman, Mother Bernardina Matthews, the prioress of the Hoogstraeten Carmel in Hol-land, made a brave move. With two other American nuns, her nieces, and a Dutch sister, she came to Port Tobacco, Maryland, in 1790. Within twenty years the community had grown to twenty, although by 1823 their farm failed and they had to move to Baltimore and open a school. The Carmelite order requires contemplation and cloister, so in time the school was closed. The Port Tobacco land had long since been sold, but in 1976 a community of nuns was able to return thanks to loyal neighbors who had worked for forty years for their restoration. DESCANSA EN EL SEÑOR

Durante varias semanas hemos escuchado lecturas que relatan la difícil tarea de los profetas y discípulos. En el Evangelio de hoy, el Señor Jesús escucha lo que le cuentan los discípulos enviados “de dos en dos” a servir a la gente. Jesús, com-

prendiendo que están fatigados, les dice: “Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario, para que descansen un poco” (Marcos 6:31). Quizás esto también es lo que el Señor les dice a sus discípulos del año 2018. Debemos hacer un alto en nuestro camino de discípulos y simplemente descansar en el Señor. La Misa del domingo brinda muchas oportunidades para la reflexión, en especial durante los períodos de silencio luego de las lecturas. ¿Por qué no dedicar algo de tiempo hoy a permitir que la pala-bra salvadora del Señor penetre tu corazón en esos silencios? Pídele al Señor que te renueve en cuerpo, mente y espíritu para que puedas continuar con la ardua tarea de ser un buen discípu-lo. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

NGHỈ NGƠI TRONG CHÚA Trong những tuần qua, chúng ta được nghe những bài đọc nói về các tiên tri và môn đệ phải trải qua những khó khăn trong lúc thi hành sứ mạng. Trong bài Phúc Âm hôm nay Đức Giêsu nghe các môn đệ tường thuật những việc họ đã làm sau khi được sai đi từng đôi. Thấy môn đệ mệt mỏi, Ngài bảo họ “Hãy tìm chỗ vắng vẻ để nghỉ ngơi” (Mark 6:11). Có lẽ Ngài cũng bảo môn đệ vào năm 2018 như thế. Chúng ta cần dừng lại trong hành trình của chúng ta để nghỉ ngơi trong Chúa. Lễ Chúa nhật là cơ hội tốt cho chúng ta nhiều thời giờ yên lặng, đặc biệt sau các bài đọc. Sao chúng ta không dùng những giây phút yên lặng đó để lời Chúa ngấm vào tâm hồn chúng ta? Xin Ngài đổi mới tâm hồn và thân xác để chúng ta tiếp tục hành trình khó khăn theo Ngài.

Đặc ân đức tin (in Favorem Fidei) a- Tên gọi: Đặc Ân Đức Tin - In Favorem Fidei Đặc ân này đôi khi có người gọi là Đặc ân Thánh Phêrô, nhưng trong văn bản chính thức của Tòa Thánh, được gọi là "Đặc Ân Đức Tin" (in Favorem Fidei).[10] Cũng nên biết, theo nghĩa chung, đặc ân thánh Phaolô (đ. 1143-1147) hay thánh Phêrô (đ. 1148-1149) đều được gọi là đặc ân đức tin. Tuy nhiên, ở đây, "Đặc Ân Đức Tin" (in Favorem Fidei) đً c hiِّ u theo nghĩa riêng c a m t loچi đặc ân, được xác định chính thức bởi Tòa Thánh. Chỉ có Đức Giáo Hoàng, với quyền Đại Diện Chúa Kitô, mới có thể tháo gỡ hôn nhân khi ban đặc ân này. Hồ sơ xin đặc ân sẽ được gởi qua bộ Giáo Lý Đức Tin, có sự chứng thực của Đức Giám Mục địa phương. b- Đối tượng được hưởng đặc ân Đặc ân Đức Tin tháo gỡ một hôn nhân mà ít nhất trong đó có một bên là người không được rửa tội (lương). Như vậy, có hai trường hợp chính yếu: - Hôn nhân của hai người đều không rửa tội, nghĩa là hôn nhân của hai người lương. Khi một người lương không muốn theo đạo mà lại muốn tiến tới hôn nhân với người Công Giáo với đặc ân Đức Tin, thì cũng xin thêm phép chuẩn khác đạo. Trong khi đó, đặc ân Thánh Phaolô chỉ ban cho khi người lương ấy theo đạo. - Hôn nhân chuẩn khác đạo: chỉ có một bên được rửa tội. Một trong hai người đều có thể xin đặc ân. Trong trường hợp thứ hai này, đôi bạn đã có kết hôn Công Giáo, đã thành sự theo Giáo Luật, nhưng nay hôn nhân bị tan vỡ, không thể tái hợp với nhau được nữa. Một trong hai bên đều có thể xin đặc ân Đức Tin để được tái hôn. - Bên Công Giáo có thể xin đặc ân chỉ khi tiến tới kết hôn với người rửa tội Công Giáo hay Kitô giáo khác. Nếu tiến tới kết hôn với người lương với phép chuẩn thì không được (Vì thực ra họ đã được miễn chuẩn khác đạo một lần rồi, nay Giáo Hội không cho lần nữa). - Bên người lương có thể xin đặc ân khi người này theo đạo, được rửa tội Công Giáo hay Tin lành … và kết hôn với một người đã rửa tội (Công Giáo, Tin lành), (Chỉ kết hôn hỗn hợp, Giáo Hội không cho miễn chuẩn khác đạo một lần nữa).
