    Power

    y Strategically located in central India, Chhattisgarh'slarge surplus of power can be easily transmitted

    without losses to any ofIndia's four grids.

    y Chhattisgarh is in the chronically deficit westerngrid, and is linked to the southern and northerngrids.

    y With its 'Power Hub' strategy, the State will

    remain power surplus for all times to come. Hence itwould be the preferred destination for all powerintensive industries.

    y Korba in Chhattisgarh is really the

    Power Capital of India. NTPC's SuperThermal Power Plant in Korba isworking at 90% Plant Load Factor(PLF), and the plants of theChhattisgarh State ElectricityBoard (CSEB) are also highly efficient.

    y There are huge coal reserves in thevicinity, offering cheap pithead powergeneration opportunities

    y 84% of India's coal is in Chhattisgarhand two other States.

    y There are adequate coal supplies-South Eastern Coalfields Ltd,Bilaspur is doubling its production from35 million tonnes to 70 million tonnesper annum.

    y As in the Green Revolution of the

    past, which concentrated onPunjab and Haryana, the newPower Revolution may focuson cheap pithead power

    producing States likeChhattisgarh, which has thepotential to produce upto50,000 MW of power.

    y NTPC has already startedconstruction on its 2640 MWSipat Super Thermal Plantand another 600 MW plant in

    Korba.

    y Non conventional energy

    sources have been accordedvery high priority.

    y A special agency calledCREDA (ChhattisgarhRenewable Energy

    Development Agency) has been set up, and over 1200 villages in dense forests are being electrified using off-grid energy.

    y Micro-Hydel powerpotential is also being tappedin a big way, and severalprojects have been identifiedfor viable private investment.

    Mineral Resourcesy Chhattisgarh region has abundant deposits of

    natural resources.

    y A variety of mineral resources are found in thisregion, diamond, gold, iron-ore, coal,corundum, bauxite, dolomite, lime, tin,

    granite to name a few.y Deposits of cumberlite pipe found in

    Pailikhand and Deobhog area and golddeposits in Sonakhan area of Raipur districthave evoked investor interest.

    y High quality iron-ore deposits are found in

    the Bailadila hill rangesas well as in Dalhi-Rajhara.

    y Abundant deposits of lime stone are found inthe districts of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Bastarfacilitating the growth of several large cementplants in the area.
