SkoolBag App We are increasingly using the app to push notifications to parents when events are on at school. The app is a really good way to quickly let parents know what's going on. If you have not downloaded it yet please do so. It is free on either your Apple or Android device.

Staff News This week KT, K/1D and 5/6H have visiting teachers from Newcastle University in their classrooms. Mr Logan (K/1D), Miss Bayliss (5/6H) and Miss Peacock (KT) will be here until the holidays and offer a much needed extra pair of hands in the room, as well as improving their own teaching skills. We welcome these talented practice teachers to our school. Mrs Prassad will be taking leave this Friday until the end of term. Mrs Nolan will be coming out of retirement to teach Yr 4/5. Mrs Stone will also be on leave and will be replaced in the office by Mrs Lowe. Parent – Teacher-Student Interviews Parent /Teacher /Student interviews are being held in Week 10 of this term. You will be able to book an interview with your child's class teacher by completing the form that goes home with the school reports next Monday. Please make the most of this opportunity to chat with your child’s teacher. It is important to keep the communication lines open and discuss any concerns you might have. Mrs Prassad’s class will have their interviews on Thursday Week 1, next term. Do you Catch the 708 Bus? If this is you, as of Monday 1 July, you will need to be up and at the bus stop 20 minutes earlier each morning to catch the bus. The 708 will arrive at school at 8:43am instead of the usual 9am. Going home the 708 bus will now leave school at 3:25pm, not 3:15pm, and will thus arrive at your bus stop 10 minutes later. Lost Property Once again we have a huge number of clothing items left around the school playground as during the day the children strip off to play a game and forget to take the clothes with them after the game. So many of the uniform items have no name or just initials which sometimes make it impossible to locate the owner. We do our best to return the clothes but if we cannot find an owner by the end of the term, they will be washed and donated to the uniform shop for second hand sale. Please check the lost property yellow bin near the lunch

order box. You will also find many lunch boxes and drink bottles there. Please help by marking all of your child's clothes and belongings. Public Speaking Reminder Class Public Speaking finals are being held next week so please make sure you come to school with your speech ready to present it to your class. Stage finals will be held soon after to decide who will represent our school at the zone competition. Good luck! Netball Gala Day Next Wednesday most of the students in Yrs 3-6 will be participating in the netball gala day. This is a wonderful sporting event run by our school with the P & C gaining the proceeds from the canteen as one of their major fundraisers. Come along and lend a hand to our hardworking P & C. Staff Development Day The first day of Term 3 for students is Tuesday 23 July. For teachers though, Monday 22 July is the first day and is a Staff Development Day. During training on this day the staff will be at Kahibah PS for combined Whitebridge Cluster of Schools professional development sessions. Staff will receive training in a variety of areas: Computers, ipads, icloud and all things

students to read and also enjoy maths Music, Drama and Art activities for the

classroom Collaborative groups and the list goes on. After 12 noon all staff will return to CPS for preparation and training with new Literacy and Numeracy Progressions as well as the new PD/H/PE curriculum. Please note that the Office will be unattended until 12noon. Mrs Lowe and Mrs Bartsch will be attending separate training. Term 3 already has quite a number of significant events on the calendar: A Matter of Seconds on Tuesday, NAIDOC celebrations on Wednesday, and Gymnastics also starting in week one.

Enrol in Kindy Now for 2020 If you have a child old enough to enrol for Kindergarten in 2020 it is now time to put their name on our list. We are forming classes and counting numbers early next term as there are people who want to know the outcome of their out of zone application to come to our wonderful school. We have a large number of applicants already for Kindy in 2020 so please assist us by getting your child’s name down ASAP. Coffee and Chat Our coffee and chat afternoons are a great way to meet new people in the school. Miss Jodi and I welcome everyone so come in out of the cold and join us each Thursday afternoon from 2:45pm. Have a wonderful week!

4/5P Week 8 already! It’s hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of Term 2! A big congratulations to my class on their efforts this term! I have had the pleasure of watching my students try their best and grow in all learning opportunities. Every Tuesday afternoon, we participate enthusiastically in STEM activities. During STEM sessions, we engage in a variety of stimulating multimedia and coding activities including Ozobots, Virtual Reality and hands on STEM challenges. We thoroughly enjoy these sessions and are learning to code and work in a fun environment. Every Thursday afternoon, we participate in the 'Peer Support' program where we work collaboratively, showing consideration for the needs, rights and feelings of our peers and working towards creating a safe and trusting environment. We learn about the importance of developing resilience, self-esteem and confidence. Year 5 students have been practicing being responsible, young leaders in preparation for Year 6 through their participation as co- peer support leaders. We have also enjoyed orienteering as a sport where we used our mapping skills to search for control points in a specific order. This has been great for everyone involved and has promoted learning and having fun while doing it. Congratulations to Caitlin, Olivia, Annabella, Ekamdeep, Jacob, Ewan, Marcus and Mackenzie for their outstanding participation in Star Struck 2019.

Technology update It has been a busy semester in the technology world here at CPS! Here is a summary of technology progress this year so far. 10 new computers have been

purchased and installed to replace aging machines– 7 laptops for teachers and 3 PCs for admin area. We will receive new student computers later in the year as part of the biannual Department of Education computer roll out. These computers will go in the

computer lab. Older computers in the lab will be distributed to classrooms and some very old computers will be decommissioned.

All teachers are using Class Dojo to communicate with parents and share photos of events and samples of student work. If you haven’t registered with Class Dojo as yet but would like to, please speak to your child’s teacher.

We are in the process of migrating our iPads to a new management system. This is a complex process but hopefully will be a quicker way of deploying apps in the end. Each class currently has a set of 6 iPads with age appropriate apps installed. One class has two sets. Our iPads are starting to show their age so we are aiming to purchase two further sets this year. A fundraising event will be held to cover the cost of this.

Ten Year 6 students participated in a Virtual (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) enrichment group this term. The school had a VR kit on loan and in addition to experiencing VR and AR, the students also used a 360 degree camera and online software to make a virtual tour of the school. In the coming weeks these tours will be presented to Mrs Thompson and a few will be linked to our website. The tours will also be shown at the Education Week event during Term 3.

At the beginning of this term we had a switch fail which meant there was no wifi in one block. The students were patient whilst we were waiting for this switch to be replaced under warranty.

During Term 3 we have organised to borrow a 3D printer and a group of students will be chosen to learn the design software for this device.

The school website has been added to regularly. The newsletter is added each week and information on classes

changed each term. Photos have also been added to the gallery for the school’s special events.

During Term 3, the way that staff access computers will change. This is occurring across the state. In preparation for this all the computers in the school (currently there is 105) have had to be updated to the most recent version of Windows 10. This was a time consuming process and I thank Miss Hale, Mrs Kondov and Mrs Nolan for their assistance with this task. At this stage, the way students log on will remain the same.

All classes have been participating in STEM activities. The students are building their coding skills through the use of Beebots, Speros, Scratch and the new Ozobots purchased this year. Primary students also had the option to attend a Coding event at school. This event was well attended with students designing their own game.
