Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. - "FOOTY RECORO" - 2000

The adage of "a week is a long time in football" certainly rings true at the moment in the Mercantile Mutual Riverina Football League. Before the round last week the Coolamon Grasshoppers looked to have blown their chances of a top three finish when they went down at home to the Lions, while Turvey Park, despite a hiccup against the Crows, looked safe in third spot. Then in the blink of an eye the Hoppers burst back to form with a decisive win over the Bulldogs and replace them in third position. To compound the Bulldog's woes they came out of the Coolamon encounter with a growing injury list which will be a grave concern with the finals imminent. There is not much significant difference between teams in the top bracket and many factors like injuries, suspensions - even perhaps winning the toss at the start of a game - may be crucial in the overall scheme of things in the run up to the finals. Other games in the round last week generally went according to plan with the higher placed teams defeating the teams below them. Temora were overwhelmed by the Wagga Tigers at Nixon Park but at least they fulfilled their commitments for the day. The Tigers are one of the flag favourites at thjs stage but there is still a long way to go and judging by AFL results of last week anything is possible. The Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions roared again and assured themselves of a double chance come finals time with a solid performance against Mangoplah Cookardinia United Eastlakes, who are still in with a chance

of being the best of the rest. Leeton/Whitton powered to a convincing win over East Wagga Kooringal and if they can sustain the momentum are serious contenders come finals time. Griffith again proved too good for Narrandera in a win that leaves the Eagles with very few chances of singing the victory song in the year 2000.

The round this week features teams in the five playing against the lower clubs in a supposedly predictable round. No doubt someone will do a Collingwood and achieve the improbable - but who? Wagga Tigers went on a goal scoring spree at Temora last week and have the capacity to repeat that dose at home against the Narrandera Eagles. Turvey Park face another danger game when they travel to the Mangoplah Sportsground to take on the Goannas. The Bulldogs must win to put their finals aspirations back on track. The Leeton/Whitton Crows are shooting for their third win in a row and should be too powerful for the Temora Kangaroos at home. Griffith will be buoyed by a great win last week but face another huge challenge if they are to topple the inform Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions at the Exies Oval. In the final match the Coolamon Grasshoppers have an ideal opportunity to consolidate third spot when they play East Wagga Kooringal at Kindra Park. A repeat of last week's form will see them maintain the status quo.

MANGOPLAH-COOKARDINIA UNITED EASTLAKES f ,f )1'1~N1t.~ Apart from our Under Eighteens good win,

the best thing about last Sunday was it being our last Sunday game for the season. Nice to enjoy oneself after footy and not have to work the next day. Will be able to do just that at the Mango pub tonight, with Nightmoves supplying the music for our Funny Money gambling night.

Under Eighteens strengthened their claims for the double chance in the finals with a big win over GGGM, Chris Willis won the Pizza Haven award, Mitchel Balding 2 votes and Shannon Galvin the 1.

Reserves were flogged with only half the team bothering to turn up. Matt Byrne put the Mug to good use, warming up nicely for Tassie. Steve Laurence took the 2 votes, and Mark Barnes the 1 .

Seniors were too slow off the mark, but played pretty well after 1 /4 time. Jamie Keenan won the Mug, Simon Killalea the Don Tuckwells Audio award, and Ben Perkins the Commercial Club award.

Netballers struggled a little too. Kate and Rachael Willis played well in the Juniors. A Grade saw Natasha Bruce win the 1st Mug and Bronwyn Smith the 2nd, with Belinda Ross the 1 vote.

Our licensed, heated Clubrooms are open from 2 p.m. till 6 p.m. then over to the Pub for a big night out.

TURVEY PARK II IJI .. 1 .. 1)()(.S A shocking weekend, 4 bad injuries and losing

the Seniors as well. Our best wishes to Andrew Donaldson (broken. collarbone), Justin Kelly (broken scaphoid), Leigh Cameron (severe concussion) and Shayne Weidemann (ankle) our horror run continues, get one back and lose 4 more.

Our netballers won 3 out of 4 with the previously undefeated C Grade losing by 12, let's hope that is their bad one for the year. Courtney Cerato won the Salon on Morgan award. Our little Juniors upset the ladder leaders by 7 goals with Rachil Cummins winning the Ladies Auxiliary award. Jo Thomas played an outstanding game to win the Mug in B Grade after a 5 goal win. In A Grade we turned the tables on the Hoppers winning by 5 goals in a high scoring game. Brodie O'Connor was unstoppable to win the Mug.

The Under 1 S's had a good win over the young Hoppers, with Paul Judge having his best game for the year to win the Ladies Auxiliary award, the Eagle Boys Pizza went to Troy Raulston and the Club socks to Sam Collie. Others to play well were Nick Bowyer, Travis Richards and Simon Molloy.

The Reserves had to struggle to win by 20 points after the loss of Andrew and Justin with serious injuries. Rupert Cuming played his best game to win the Mug, David Muscat (don't call me soft) won the Eagle Boys Pizza, the Phil Elliott Betting voucher to the birthday boy Ben Flanagan and the Golden Seasons dinner to Stuart Heine.

I think we would have to wait 10 years before you would see Wally miss so many goals, to lose by 4 goals after having one more shat than them tells the story. Grant Bourne excelled in his call up to the seniors to win the Pizza, the Salon on Morgan went to Scott Rainbird, the Rules Club dinner to Nick O'Connell, the Miltons Gear supporters award to Scott Bourne, the Active Physio to Matt Carroll and the Bulldog Mug to Justin Bramich.

LEETON-WHITTON (~ Il() 1\7 S Light at the end of the tunnel for St. Kilda fans

this week with the news the Saints have claimed newly born Cooper John Sharman under the Father-Son Rule, and hope he will be ready for action in Round 1 of 2019! Congratulations to Matt Sharman and Renee Tooth on the arrival of their baby son Cooper; another little Crow running around the Showgrounds shortly.

For a moment last.week you could have been excused for thinking ·you were at the Saleyards, as the gathering throng of EWK players in our forward 50 looked. something akin to pigs clammering for pole position at the drinking trough. A poor spectacle indeed was the Senior fixture, with the ultra defensive Hawks and ultra attacking Crows getting stuck somewhere around CHF for the majority of the afternoon.

Ty McGregor continued his outstanding season to secure the Lloyd Pilkington shirt, something he desperately required following his dress sense on Saturday evening. Darren Atkinson provided another brilliant four quarter performance in the ruck to secure the Mobil Service Centre fuel, while acting co-captain Peter Bloomfield performed well under extremely trying conditions to earn the Liquor Barrel prize.

Matt Smith was again outstanding, proving again he is over early season injury securing the Eagle Boys Pizza. Travis Irvin winning the Mug. For mine Shane Whelan was also a standout for the Crows, his foot skills crucial in breaking down the crowded defensive line.

Reserve Grade battled against a tenacious opponent, interesting rule interpretations and a lack of numbers to triumph and keep their finals hopes alive. Michael Lashbrook was again magnificent in defensive and is returning to the form that earnt him a senior guernsey earlier this year, picking up the Ton Jays Pizza, while Ben Scroope backed up from the Under 18's and was rewarded for a second fine game, the Leeton Lunchbox a just reward for his efforts.

Simon Piltz made an encouraging return from injury to score the Leeton Car Wash award, while Even Hillman again stood out, this week earning the Liquor Barrel prize. Glen Evans also backed up, playing a strong game in the forward line, including a mark from a handball to win the Mug.

The Under 1 B's were subjected .to similar spoiling tactics to their 1st Grade clubman which made football very difficult, a 70 point victory all but sewing up a top three berth for September.

Matt Flagg picked up the Bolton Pest Control Award for another outst;mding game, while Gary Reilly also came under notice for solid game at ground level. Brad Lynch (Jarrah Mall) continues to develop as a mature leader of the team, with Ben Scroope (Fruitshack) and Dean Rose (Tresses Award) also recognised for their contributions on the day.

Our netballers had a good day completing the

TE MORA 1{1.\N (.1-lll( )( )S It's hard to compete without a full side to

run on the paddock each week. A couple of late withdrawals ment two reserve grade players had to back up. We started OK but too many key players were down. As I have said before, stick the season out and let's rebuild for next year.

Better players to standout were Darrell Bowden, Rob Harper and Puss Derrick.

The Reserves were to struggle from the beginning, without regular players. As with the Firsts, let's stick out the season.

The 19s were soundly beaten although we had 20 players thanks to the Under 18s in rugby league helping us out. It's ironic that Tigers could only come up with 16 players. Maybe the League is a bit hypocritical about us fulfilling our commitments for the remainder of the season. It seems to me if a Wagga club can't fill a side - it doesn't matter.

This week we travel to Leeton, so fellas, let's put it to them, I know we can.

GRIFFITH s11r11NS Today we take on GGGM in a day sponsored

by Fred Cole P/L, the club and players would like · to thank Ken Wells & Staff for their support. Coming events: An AFL Grand Final Day Lunch at the Exies Sports Club (further details to follow); the Reverse Draw will then follow on Sept 1 O; also our Presentation Night is on Friday 6 October. The "Red Swan" Awards night will be held after the EWK game, categorjes can be found on the notice board next to the coffee machine in the Sporties Club and your nominations can be given to Grant Kelson. The Club B&F Vote Count will be held at the Sporties on Friday August 25 at 8pm. Meals will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Last week started well with the Under 18's recording one of their largest winning margins for a long time kicking 18.15 to 1.3. Daniel Best made a return to form taking out the J.D's Pizza award, while Ashley Gardiner booted 5 goals to be awarded the McDonalds voucher. Jamie Kite was another to make a welcome return to form to take home the Video Ezy voucher. Both A&B Grade netballers chalked up another win even with a shortage of players.

It was then over to the Reserves who also had a big win kicking 22.12 to just 0.2 in workmen style fashion. Pagan sorry I mean Adrian would have been pleased with the win as a couple of his regular players were asked to step up to Firsts due to injuries, Simon Spiers was again outstanding on the day giving the crowd a great display of hard running and polished foot skills to be awarded the Griffith Exies Bottle Shop Voucher. Michael "soon to be THE MAN" Duncan worked hard all day to take out the Autobarn award, while Greg "Grumpy" Dreyer threw away the walking stick to be awarded the McDonalds voucher. Graham Male ran all day to take out the Griffith Laundry Service voucher, while the Chris Conlan's new light weight walking frame improved his game even further to be nominated the Players Player Mug.

First Grade started like a house on fire in the first quarter but someone forgot to add more wood as they slowly were dragged down into a very unattractive game. Rodney "The Man" Duncan never stopped all day taking out the Exies Dinner for Two as well as the Players Mug, while Luke Condon had a great game to be awarded the Snuggle In Voucher. John O'Dwyer was again outstanding to take out the Donaldson's Mitre 10 Voucher, just edging out Jason "Beaver" Malone who settled for the Ron's Auto One award.

GANMAIN-GRONG GRONG-MATONG 1 ... 1 f) NS Although winning it wasn't one of our better

efforts, with a very determined Mangoplah taking the game right up to us. Eddie Sullivan continued his consistent form, winning the Sports Club award, Scott Hamblin won Webbers Bakery Towel, whilst David Logan won the Wagga First Aid Mug. the Grong Grong Motel Dinner went to Brad Smith and the Wagga Mutual Credit Union award going to Craig Lenon.

Miltons Gear votes (3) Eddie Sullivan (2) Scott Hamblin and (1) David Logan.

The Reserves had a huge win over a depleted Mango outfit with Ben Sullivan winning the Bowling Club award, Shane Bloomfield the Club Towel, Darren Brand the Crozier Dinner, Dohls Mug to Shaun Rava and the 6 pack to Shannon Dohl.

The Under 18's were well beaten with Matt Williams winning the Club Towel, three Hotels to Hayden Milne, the Country Cut & Style voucher to Joel Noble and the Commins Thompson award to Mitchell Steele.

Netball news - A grade showed their strength thrashing MCUE 96-9. The Lions kept MCUE scoreless until seven minutes into the second quarter. The girls were able to improve on the number of goals scored every quarter. The Mug went to Narelle Walsh for another great defensive game. The Ganmain Hotel award was too close to call, so Carlie Wood and Lauren Mortimer shared the honour. Carlie was outstanding in defence whilst Lozza demonstrated her aggression and accuracy. Well done girls.

Juniors also had a sensational game winning

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. - ·FoOTY RECORD" - 2000

RIVERINA UMPIRES ASSOCIATION '~port' Rule of the week: The siren has sounded and a mark has been

awarded 15m from Goal. The attacking team is behind by one point and the player is not confident he can kick a Goal to win the match. The player runs forward and handballs the ball through the Goal Posts. Is it a score and what does the Field Umpire do?

a. No Score. The player must dispose of the ball by kicking it. End of game.

b. The 'All Clear' is given by the Field Umpire because the player disposed of the ball correctly and the behind is recorded, the game isa Draw.

c. The Field Umpire gives. the player another kick, he kicks a Goal and the Team wins by five points.

As the finals draw closerthe footy is starting to hot up, with teams fighting for those elusive finals positions. The same can be· said for all our umpires, our observers are out there watching most games and providing valuable feedback to the guys on there performances. This will help determine those umpires that get the all important finals opportunities. Last week I mentioned that Rob Davidson was making his senior debut in his first senior RFL game. Well unfortunately a late change saw Rob go somewhere else. However, this week Rob realises one of his goals andc-Umpires his first senior RFL game. From the President and Coaches, Well Done and justly deserved.

Accreditation is drawing to a close so if you need some guidance please see Gary or myself over the next few_ weeks. They have to be in Sydney by 21 Aug. This month sees us back at the Home Tavern after our games, so make the effort to get there. From the social club keep in mind the end of season trip to Mulwala, more information to follow.

UMPIRE PROFILE This weeks Umpire Profile is: DUNCAN.

Mercantile m.;.. Major Mutual • Sponsor

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football League Inc.

Australia. Duncan has been umpiring for 23 years starting in 1977. He started umpiring in Victoria at Warrnambool in the Hamden League where he is a life member. He moved on to the VFL U19s, which ·is a highlight of his umpiring career, much sought after spot for young umpires. Duncan then umpired in Colac and then moved to South Australia where he umpired in Port Pirie, which is part of the Spencer Gulf League. He was the umpires Coach for 3 years and then helped the SANFL as their Regional Development Manager for umpires in that region. A very travelled and experienced umpire who will no doubt provide valuable support to all our younger and older umpires in the years to come. Pottsie is married and he works at 93.1 Star FM as part of the morning crew . His one and only fault is that he is a fanatic Geelong supporter. Well can't help bad luck. Its great to have Pottsie on board this year to help maintain our quality senior umpiring panel.

Rule of the week answer: b. 15.3.1 and 16.2A Player correctly

disposes of the football if he or she Kicks o; Handballs the football. A Player who has been awarded a Mark or Free Kick shall dispose of the football from directly behind the Mark

Good Luck to all umpires running this weekend. Until next week

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

. # Merk reckons we should spare a thought for the poor ol' Bomber supporters who lumped the big money on their charges to win last Friday night. One punter counted out $26,000 on the Bombers to win at $1.1 O with TAB Sportsbet - needless to say he blew the lot in chasing a mere $2,600 profit. Another bloke had a $40,000 bet with Centrebet while the No1 Betting Shop gladly scooped up a cool $50,000 in another wayward splurge. Maybe the punters had connections with the tribunal (to try and get a bit back), who fined players from both teams a total of $35 grand for a bit of push and shove at the half-time interval. Fair dinkum - if they fine you for a bit of that sort of "hanky panky" Merk reckons that bloke who cleaned up Tim Beard at Kindra Park a couple of weeks ago (and is still walking the streets) should shout himself a lottery ticket!!! Imagine the stories he can tell his grand kiri~"'

# The NSW/ACT Rams were a bit stiff in their game against the Westem Jets at Whitten Oval in Footscray last weekend. They played well and led for most of the game and a win would have lifted them up the ladder. They were 1 O points up late in the game but the Jets stepped on the gas to pinch the game by 2 points on the bell. Local players Lew Roberts and David Clout kicked five goals between them and were among the better players. The Rams face the second placed Dandenong Stingrays this Saturday at Queanbeyan in their last game of the season.

# Melburnians are certainly mad about their football or just plain MAD. Merk went along to the Richmond V Sydney Swans game to check out the new Colonial Stadium last week and was surrounded by fanatical Tiger supporters. They had definite opinions on anything that moved - especially the men in white and the blokes running around in red & whitejumpers. One particular fan (with his small son on his lap) roared from goa to whoa with

such gusto his glasses kept fogging up. His language would even make the devil blink as he lambasted everyone - especially the Umps. Merk reckons the poor kid's ears would still be ringing & he probably had nightmares all week. Just imagine his turn at 'show & tell' on Monday!! "How did you enjoy the footy Johnny?" "It was*#..,,#@"%""$#"'% great Miss!!" Another group of Tiger fans were so upset after the final hooter they had a "donny-brook" among themselves. Merk was impressed with the Stadium and the form of the 'locals' in the Swans camp - Daniel McPherson, Brad Seymour, Paul Kelly and Ben Matthews all played well.

# The NSW/ACT State Under 16 team returned triumphant from the, National Titles h~ld in Tasmania. They won all three games contested and took the Division Two Trophy. Local players who excelled at the carnival included Jeremy Rowe (MCUE), Matt Rava and Brett Doswell (Wagga Tigers), Brent Fraser (Turvey Park) and Adam Schneider (Osborne). Adam was voted the Best & Fairest player in Division Two and was awarded the AS McLean Medal - well done Adam and all the players. Adam will make his initial appearance for the NSW/ACT Rams in their final game this week.

# Upsets galore in the AFL last week and no doubt the 'hierarchy' are all smiles as the finals approach. Even Collingwood did the unthinkable and polished off the Kangaroos. The one sobering thought for the Pie-fans and 'Malteeser' followers is that the celebrations will be short-lived and cease today just like Collingwood's season!!! Tile heard that "Fast'' Eddie McGuire is on a mercy mission to Fiji next week to sign up George Speight!! Eddie reckons that if the Pies fail to win the flag next year - Georgy Porgey will simply hold the AFL to ransom until they hand over the Cup!!!

Hopefully the wise ,eague administrators can recognise this shortly. The boys certainly got a buzz out of the large crowds and atmosphere on Sunday.

Today we meet the Temora Roos in some important games especially for Reserve Grade, while tonight it's the Dark Town Strutters Ball at the Soldiers Club. 7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. be there for a great night.

Go Crows. The Bird.

Ganmaln-GG-M notes (cont. from page 11)

34-1 0. All nine players showed determination and enthusiasm resulting in a strong team effort. Jacinta Lennon had a terrific game attacking and won the Socks. Libby Fairless was on target shooting resulting in her winning the Ganmain Hotel Award. Great work girls.

Silver Circle draw no. 6 - 197 Laura Evans, 186 Ben Cruikshank, 315 Mal Wilcox. This week the long journey to Griffith where a win is a must.

Griffith notes (cont. from page 10)

McDonalds will receive a visit by the youthful Damien Scott after winning their award, and last. of all Jeff "Pumpkin" Mickam worked hard all day to take home the Caltex Petrol Voucher.

Thankyou once again to Bob & Brenda Spears for sponsoring the days events, which both the club and the players appreciate greatly. Goodluck to Cassandra Malone who is our Miss RFL entrant this year and anyone who is interested in going to the RFL votes Count to be held on the 5th of September please see Fiona Beverly to book a seat on the bus, tickets for the night are $25 & bus fare. Don't forget everyone is welcome to join the players and committee for drinks in the club after the game. Also anyone who would like to buy a Griffith Swans shirt like the players are wearing please see Damien or Leanne Scott as there are still some left. Goodluck to all grades today, let's keep the winning feeling going. GO SWANS!!

Coolamon notes (cont. from page 12)

Coolamon Rebecca Rudd had a brilliant defensive game initiating more rebounds than a brick wall on a tennis court. Racquel Farrell continued her recent robust form for a sadly out of form B Grade, while it was Lycinda Dean's amazing interceptions that set the standard for the C Grades win. The junf'ors, like the B Boppers have lost confidence at the moment but Kristin McKenzie shone like Oscar night rubies all game.

Don't forget the mock- wedding on the Saturday after the Leeton game, where we can all in exquisite bad taste, celebrate the marriage of Virginia (as sweet as icing on an Angel cake) Pattison and Craig (Australia's most eligHJle bachelor) Drum.

Farrer League

Only two games remain in the home & away section of the Mercantile Mutual Farrer Football League and the question still remains - who will fill the fifth spot and contest the elimination final on August 20?

Round 16 produced some great games as sides strive to gain the best positions possible with the finals on in a matter of weeks. The Ardlethan Stars have been in the thick of the September action for the last two seasons and have refused to be denied again with two important wins to remain well in contention for season 2000. The mini-final at the Ardlethan Sportsground against the Collingullie/Ashmont/ Kapooka Demons saw the Stars triumph and snuff out any chance the Demons had of defending their premiership. The Stars had the Demons under pressure from the start and although out scored in the final quarter. they held the visitors at bay to win by 20 points. The Cootamundra Blues' tenuous grip on fifth spot was slipping but they responded · in the best possible way with a convincing 85 point win at home against the Rivcoll Bushpigs. They are certainly not out of the woods yet but their confidence will be sky-high for the important contests ahead. The battle of the "Bombers" at Langtry Oval produced another enthralling contest with the Marrar side achieving their aim of moving to third spot compliments of a five goal margin over Ariah Park Mirrool. The Match of the Day at Victoria Park lived up to all expectations as the Magpies and Saints went at it from the first bounce - the prize - top spot and a probable firm grip on the minor

Editorial Round Seventeen

premiership. Both sides gave it everything and the Magpies were able to find that little extra when it counted in the finish to win by 11 points.

All games this weekend will have some bearing on the make-up of the five. The Collingullie/AshmonVKapooka Demons will take on the Cootamundra Blues at Norton Oval Kapooka in a game the Blues are desperate to win in order to hang onto fifth spot. The Demons are out of the hunt but will be keen to spoil the Blues' chances. Rivcoll will be at home to The Rock-Yerong Creek in another tough assignment at Bushpig Park. The Magpies are in good form and will be keen to remain on top of the table. The North Wagga RAAF Saints will be at home at McPherson Oval where they will face another challenge from Ariah Park Mirrool. Both sides were beaten last week and will be keen to turn things around and enhance their finals prospects. The final match is another home game and do or die encounter for the Ardlethan Stars, who must defeat the Marrar Bombers to keep their slim finals hopes alive. The sides look evenly matched and have had some memorable close encounters in recent years - this one will be no exception.

The mud fight envisaged last week wasn't q·uite as expected. The mid-week rest did the

. ground a favour and the Blues' 1st Graders responded accordingly with a big win over the Bushpigs. The heavy going assisted the big men, with Danny and Roy Jacques, Justyn Smith and Dean Cooper revelling in the conditions. They in turn brought the running players into the game. Award winners were Scott "Scooter" Roberts who won the Mug and Justyn Smith the Socks.

2nd Grade, once again, pushed themselves to the limit. The Pigs, however, came away with the points on the day. Award winners were Chris Manwaring - the Mug, Matt Rudd - the Colour Connections Hair Cut and Ben Jacques - the Socks. they were ably assisted by Captain Coach John "Poppy'' Walton and Leon "Gomez" Hayward.

The Bluebirds also had an each-way bet with the A Graders successful over the highly rated Bushsows team. Best on the day were Jo Ormond and Jenni Gilbert. Unfortunately B Grade ran out of legs in the last stanza with the evergreen Sue Bradley and young Bee Cooper the stand-out players.

Last Saturday night's Fancy Dress and Karaoke night was an outstanding success. Congratulations to the Bluebirds on a well organised event. Special attendees were: The Blues Brothers, Elvis, MIB, George Speight, Rex Hunt, Marge and Lisa Simpson, Where's Wally and Robin Hood. These were well supported by the "Sister Act" nuns and the Absolutely Fabulous Patsy and Edwina, just to nanie a few. "Bamm Bamm" however, won the 'Best-Dressed' award on the night.

Meanwhile, back at the Footy, today we trek to The Gullie for what is again a must-win game to retain that crucial finals position. Stay focussed on the job at hand and success will follow!

Two tremendous victories last week which finds both .teams heading the field. The firsts have a lead on% and the seconds just behind on %. It was a battle royale in the seniors with a large and vocal verandah cheering us on to victory. There were a couple of pluses and minuses to come out of it but the main objective was achieved - victory. We must continue in this same vane over the next couple of weeks to enable us to finish in the coveted top position. The frills of being minor premier are well worth it. The Mighty Magoos have a definite chance to finish the same.

Awards in the Firsts: The Rock Butchery Mug - Mick Mazzocchi who really played a blinder. The Porky & Verda Mug - Mark O'Leary who never plays a bad one. The Home Dinner 42 - David Gardiner who always relishes a challenge. The Ag'n'Vet Services Socks - Mick Williams for a great game across half back. Well done to all players on a great effort. The Seconds Awards: The TyreWorld Mug - Andrew Rain bird 10 out of 12 isn't bad. The Ladies $1 O - Wayne Corbett and Dale Gowland who's senior experience showed out. The Ag'n'Vet Services Socks - Ian Corbett for his usual determined effort.

We have always neglected to respond to nit picking or trivial criticism directed at us through this publication. But when we are accused of somethir:ig grossly over stated I feel it requires response. I didn't think that 29 sausages would create a bigger upset than George Speight has in Fiji. To those concerned rest happy - we will not in future upset your canteen hours of 12 to 4.

Next week don't forget the Masquerade Ball at The Kings Own. It is being organised by e dedicated band of players wives and we thank them for this. It will be great way to finish off the home and away series. All get there.

Mini Lotto is bouncing along with the jackpot around $7,700. Well worth winning so get your numbers in by the draw on Thursday nights. You must be in it to win it.

Hopefully today Matty Carroll will be able to post 5 majors and pass that magical ton. It is indeed a great effort to do this and without putting the mocka on you Jiffy we wish you well. It has been a while since we have had a player enter this elite field.

A reminder that the League B&F is on Wednesday 23rd August at The Rules Club. Our Princess entrant is Jodie Turner and we thank h·er for this. For tickets see Sandman.

Today we pay another visit to Bushpig Park. They have caused a few problems to several sides this year and we don't want to be another scalp for them. Surely both sides have enough incentive to give their all for victory. We will see you all at The Home after the game.

Thought for the Week: When things are steep, remember to stay level - headed.

Not a great day last week at The Rock with only 1 win from 3. However life goes on. The Seconds went down to a better opposition but with some players to come back in should get stronger. The Players Player K&J Mug went to Captain Rod "Rocket" Earsman, while Jeremy Duncan won the Palm & Pawn Beer tickets with is usual good petformance. The Earsman's Drycleaning award went to Craig Pickering who can get the clown suit looking smick again. Bradley "FUD" Bowen tried hard all day against the odds to pick up the Farmer's Home award.

The First's had plenty of chances to win but were let down by a poor first half and taken nothing from the opposition we can't expect to win playing 1 or 2 quarters. Darren Richardson played his guts out to win the Players/Player K&J Trophies Mug while Nigel "Bottles" Francis collected the Palm & Pawn Beer tickets with another great game. Coach Parmenter continues to lead from the front and deservedly won the Palm & Pawn Bistro award while Russel Randall won the Swift Petrol award for Dan's ute.

The only bright note was a win by our B Grade netballers, award winners were the Players Player Mug to Cass Malone and the Beer Tickets to Sally Noack (it almost sounds like a recording).

Today we welcome the boys and girls from the land of the thumping great cricket pitch for some footy, netball and hospitality so let's get back on track with some wins.

A reminder to get your teams ready for next weeks Trivia Night after the Marrar game. Remember awards at the Clubrooms tonight about 6 p.m. so let's all make it back.

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

Thanks to young Plugger for calling in and reminding me of all the goings on around the place, because I had forgotten all about my scribal duties this week. So thanks to Plugger I have your weekly dose of results, awards, truths, half-truths and straight out lies.

A mixed day at Marrar land, where you always get a serviette with your pie, butter on your hot-dog bun and heaps of hot water. The 2nds reversed their first round defeat, returning to the winners list to the tune of 1 O goals. Joel Firman was as solid as his abdominal muscles and won the Bowling Club award. Ben Cassidy won the Bill Thompson $1 0 and the Player's player mug and must really be on the verge of a call-up to the 2.00 o'clock time slot. Nick Jenkins won the 6 pack and Nathan Chambers the massage - but he must pu·t in an appearance at training to get it. Finally Chris Cassidy can have his No 2 trimmed to a No 1 courtesy of Dom's Hairdressing and Fitzroy Football Club Recruiting Office. Sharp shooter Wally kicked a lazy 6 goals.

Five unanswered goals late in the third quarter proved the distance in the One's - due largely to a lapse in intensity and concentration. Jeremy Quade trod on every blade of grass at Langtry Oval on his way to the Bowling Club award and Player's player mug. Mick Heath won the Mirrool Hotel 6 pack with a solid game and Greg Tyack continued his sterling season winning the stubbie holder & $1 0. Ken Fairman kicked a career high 4 goals and Possum Doyle missed a club high 3 goals from in front and will have an intense week on the training track with kicking coach Paul Buerckner. Finally the "speedster'' Dennis Dunstan lost his melee.

In the Netball our A graders lost a close one, while the B graders drew in an even closer game -· award winners will be released when I am notified.

Well this week the Saints in Wagga - we've lost our third place and a double chance - time to get it back again.

Go Bombers!!!!

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

What a weekend, some footy was played, a band was heard at the pub with lots of singing & dancing going on, plenty of stray bowling at the bowling club - and Maurie Gaynor was seen wearing a coat and tie. Don't forget the Boulder Awards are on tonite - a lot of work has been put in and it should be an absolute rip snorter corker of a night - BE THERE !!! Last week the 100 club was won by Helen Quade, with Rebecca Litchfield being drawn out for the Members Draw. Rebeccca wasn't there so it will jackpot to $300 this week.

The Mighty Magoos had a few players pull out at the last minute and a few others not turning up without letting anyone know - chin up to those that battled it out on the day. Votegetters in the Bowling Club Award were (5) Gottried Scnoegl, (4) Cornelius Murphy, (3) Dean Crotty, (2) Gerard Carroll, (1) Giles Millinton. The Ardlethan Fashion and Leisure Towel Award went to Brendan Johnson, the London Hotel Award to Gedda Carroll and the Farmers Home Hotel Award to Goff Schnoegl. This week the Commins Hendriks Encouragement Award went to Duncan Campbell. The Mug went to Giles - we are terribly sorry Rob and Pat..

The Seniors kept the dream alive with a solid victory and are really starting to put together some good passages of footy. Votegetters in the Horan Transport Award were (5) Matthew McDonald, (4) Matthew Currie, (3) David Currie, (2) Kieran Spencer, (1) David Cox. The Farmers Home Hotel Award went to Matthew McDonald, Who also took out the London Hotel Award. The Riverina Soil Management Towel to Kieran Spencer, The Mug went to Kieran Spencer - we are terribly terribly, truly ruly really sorry Rob and Pat.

In netball news there was no netball this week for the Starettes, but the girls will be looking to maintain winning form this week with solid hitouts against Marrar.

This week its another home game where we play host to our friends from Easter, the Marrar Bombers- lets not be as inviting as we were during the chocolate season - nothing less than victory will satisfy.
