HISTORY

In 1883 count Jozef Pálfy began in Horné Orešany, close to Smolenice, to utilize wood with dry distillation into chemical products. Introduction of new technology helped to extend product assortment of the factory by raw materials used for paint and lacquer production. Production of paints and lacquers started in 1929. The factory produced mainly varnish, oil, nitrocellulose and spirituous paints and lacquers. Later the assortment was extended by synthetic and latex paints. Primal production of alkyd resins started in 1950. In 1948 a new factory in Smolenice started its production with yearly capacity of 40 000 tons of products. In the 80´s a new resin production facility with the most modern technology was built. Production assortment has gradually formed into its current status – production of coatings, resins, adhesives and auxiliary products. Within the first period of coupon privatization CHEMOLAK has been transformed to joint stock company in 1992. Since 2003 the company has forcefully focused on retail segment through product campaigns and image strengthening of CHEMOLAK product brands. In the industrial segment the company satisfies constantly increasing customer demands in the field of surface treatments in the building industry, machinery, transport equipment and infrastructure, constructions, energy, furniture and wood processing industry. After new legislation REACH came into force, company has focused on progressive ecologisation of production assort-ment, mainly on decrease of volatile organic solvents in products. Today’s CHEMOLAK aim is to constantly improve the quality and range of offered assortment, mainly waterborne, high solid content and powder coatings.
