Last week we heard that Philip was one of the disciples chosen to assist the Twelve in their mis-sion, preaching the word and serving the poor. Today we hear what Philip accomplished.
He journeyed from Jerusalem, where Chris ans met with perse-
cu on, to Samaria, where he met with such support that the author of Acts remarks on the great joy he brought to the whole city. Samaritans of Samaria and Jews of Judea were unified in Christ. What’s more, Peter and John joined Philip demonstra ng the solidarity between the original apostles and the later disciples. All this is wrapped up in the unity of God, as exemplified by the presence of both the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit in all who had been bap zed.
In the Gospel, Jesus promises the Twelve that he will not leave them orphans. Another Advocate will be with them always. The Greek word parakletos, also translated as “Paraclete,” refers to one who defends or pleads the cause of someone at trial. In the trials of our lives, the Holy Spirit assists us, defending us from harm and guiding us along the right way.
Jesus, of course, was the first Advocate whom God sent to us. Last week we heard Je-sus tell his disciples that he would prepare a dwelling place for them. Now he tells them that this dwelling place is much closer than they expect. “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you” (John 14:20). Can I ex-plain to others, “gently and reverently,” why I hope?

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller announced a dec-laration stating that Public Sunday Liturgy will re-sume on the weekend of the Ascension of the Lord, May 23rd and 24th. Daily Mass, however, will re-sume as of Tuesday, May 19th while carefully fol-lowing the recommendations of Health Authorities and all civic regulations.
In addition to developing a strategic seating plan, we will also be sanitizing the Church after every Mass. St. Lawrence is in need of a large number of volunteers; we urge anyone and everyone who is willing to invest some of their time to call the parish office and sign up without delay. Together we will learn to adapt to many changes to come, that will be implemented for the safety of all our parish members, ministers, staff and our Pastors.
Having shared this need with you all. We want you to know that we are very excited to welcome every-one back and resume our NEW normal as soon as possible! Please contact the parish office at 210-924-4401 and become a valuable volunteer today. We look forward to hearing from you soon!!!
¡Esperamos tener noticias suyas pronto!

HOPE—“What is the rea-son for your hope?” Im-agine somebody coming up to you and asking you that ques on. Not “What are you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for possessions or aspira-
ons for life, it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to be ready to give an answer to this ques on. Truth be told, few of us spend much me thinking about why we hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers. We hope be-cause Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with us always. No ma er what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to do, we must always first know and proclaim the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us through the power of the Spirit.
