• Narrative based music videos usually tell a story that relates to the lyrics of the song and genre of the song. This technique engages the audience.

• Narrative can be a whole story with a beginning middle and end, like you would see in a film.

• Or it can be various clips of a story. This can be clips of a film if the song is the soundtrack for example Bruno Mars ‘It Will Rain’.

Performance Based Music Video

• Many music videos include clips of the artist performing. They can be performing to the camera or an audience.

• This is popular for rock musicians as the concerts are high energy and there is focus on them playing their music.

• Concept based music videos tend to have no storyline, they are generally a random concept and sometimes tends to not tie in with the band or theme of the song at all.

• They are usually unusual and obscure, even surreal for the audience. This unusual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in.

• Concept videos are usually combined with one of the other two styles as the market demands for greater accessibly rather than the somewhat niche that is pure concept art.
