The prices of some of the most commonly used consumables have been reduced by 20–30 per cent on average.

We have taken a look at which every-day consumables are in greatest de-mand on the farms, and have made a real effort internally to cut prices on 40 of the most popular items.

The discounts apply primarily to ma-jor purchases of, for example, full pal-lets and full boxes, but we have even reduced unit prices on some items to benefit our customers. The prices have fallen by 20–30 per cent on av-erage.

Incentive to buy a little more at a time

The intention behind our new price structure is to generate an incentive to buy a little more at a time, and make it more attractive to think in terms of slightly longer periods. Other quan-tities mean other prices. And there are big savings to be made, because we’ve done a lot of work to make it even more profitable to buy from HG.

Fair PricE

HG is committed to developing and supplying products that pres-ent the most economical solution per year throughout the lifetime of the product.

The longer the service life, the more years there are to depreciate a given product – which translates into a decrease in the annual de-preciation sums. Low annual maintenance costs constitute another important factor and can be achieved by selecting the most appro-priate components in the product.

We at HG call this “Total costs over the product lifetime”.

Let us look at an example: An item that costs EUR 100 and has a service life of 10 years initially seems to be more economical than one that costs EUR 105 and has a service life of 12 years.

With the same annual maintenance expenses, the item costing EUR 100 depreciates at a rate of EUR 10 per year + maintenance costs, while the item costing EUR 105 depreciates at a rate of EUR 8.80 per year + maintenance costs. This means that the total costs over the product lifetime are actually lower for the item that costs EUR 105 to buy.

It is part of HG’s corporate culture to focus on providing products with a long service life and thus low annual costs. We believe that this boosts the value of the work on the farm and in the pelting centre so that you make maximum return on it. It also makes your working day more pleasant.

Even though mink prices are sometimes low, this does not affect the issue of whether mink skins will be bought and sold 5–10 years from now. Nor does it affect HG’s corporate culture.

This catalogue contains plenty of examples of products where HG’s solutions are better and more economical in the long term. So it makes sense to compare price, quality and functionality with the forecast service life of the products when making purchases for your farm and pelting centre.

We hope you enjoy the catalogue.

The stated prices are to be treated as guidelines. When an article is marked by *) instead of a price, please call us for an offer. No liability can be accepted for tapping errors or price changes.

The tightest turning circle on the market

2-speed mixer: high for mixing and low for feeding.

A large cooling system prevents the powerful machine from over-heating.

The driver’s seat and steering wheel are located 10 cm to the right of centre to bring you closer to the nesting box during feeding. This reduces the risk of strain injuries to your back, arms and shoulders.

The first two-thirds of the range of movement of the pedal are for feeding. The soft acceleration makes it simple to find precisely the work pace that suits you best during feeding. It is also possible to adjust the angle and range of movement of the pedal to match your preferences.

The distinguishing feature of the M 100-series HG Feeder is that it contains as little technology as possible. The machine is available in three sizes: Feeder 100 for 1,000 litres of feed, Feeder 125 for 1,250 litres and Feeder 160 for 1,600 litres.

The engine is positioned in front and the large cooling system ensures that you can keep on feed-ing for as long as you need to without the machine overheating.

u Plastic-coated ZincAlu10

The fact that we use strong Zincalu 10 wire in our PVc-coated wire goods helps to make the entire solution stronger and more durable.

The wire is available in two thicknesses.

u Stainless

The steel used in stainless cages from HG is of type AISI 304 L. This is more readily weldable than standard AISI 304. We use AISI 304 L because the welds are typically the weak points in stainless prod-ucts. As a result, stainless cages from HG have longer service lives.

Stainless wire is available in three thicknesses.

u ZinkAlu10

ZincAlu10 is a patented coating comprising 90% zinc and 10% alu-minium. This makes the wire stronger and increases the service life of the cages in relation to the well-known Bezinal quality from Betafence, for example.

The wire is available in three thicknesses.

HG products are the only ones on the market that outperform the eU class A norm. Our 2.45 mm wire is actually more than 20% bet-ter than the standard laid down in this norm.

30% stronger wire in partition walls, cage doors and bottom wire

The wire used in the ZincAlu10 partition walls, cage doors and bot-tom wire is 30% more robust than previously, in that its diameter has been increased from 1.60/1.75 mm to 1.75/2.05 mm.

HG nesting boxes

HG nesting boxes are available in a variety of designs for both 6- and 8-room cages. They are manufactured at HG’s factory in Poland, where high-tech machinery helps to ensure high quality and complete uniformity.

A set of nesting boxes with cage doors (or inserts) from HG contains a lot more than just wood. In fact, wire and other metal parts make up two-thirds of a set of nesting boxes.

And it is precisely the quality of the wire – including its coating thickness and weld strength – that ensures that HG nesting boxes last appreciably longer than most other makes on the market.

Furthermore, all furnishing such as hole rings, braces, locking plates, shut-ter rails, etc. come standard in stainless.

We therefore recommend that you look at the total cost of your purchase over the entire service lifetime of the product (see page 5).

For two-storied cages as well

HG nesting boxes are also made for use in two-story cage set-ups (plus 2”). All nesting boxes are available with inserts and can be used as breeding boxes.

Kit florring improves well-being

Kit florring is available as an optional extra. This allows the kits to snuggle down together – safe and warm – and there is no risk of them crawling into the insert. It also means that they get up earlier to feed and therefore grow and develop more quickly.

– Last longer than most others

A whole range of versions are available to order for both 6- and 8-room blocks.

The Chipboard model can be supplied on request with box catches mounted off each of the parti-tion walls for use when you fit the box.

Pre-drilled holes in the nesting boxes allow the door to be attached in vari-ous positions.

The bottom wire is nailed in place or – as shown here – secured more firmly with a metal bracket.

Our standard model is supplied with four long wires in 4 mm Bezinal, which are secured with clips and always remain in the same place in the box.

Nesting box lid, Poland model, is supplied as standard reinforced with a 4 mm edge frame on three of the sides to ensure greater stability. The door is fitted with an ergonomic handle.

Braces on the side ensure strength and stability. All HG nesting boxes feature a 120 mm hole and are supplied with a stainless steel hole ring. Nesting boxes in glulam and birch are supplied with or without stainless steel shutter rails as requested.

All HG nesting boxes feature a bottom door in each compartment that can be opened separa-tely for easier cleaning.

Fittings are supplied in stainless steel as standard

Nesting boxes in glulam wood and birch are sup-plied with stainless steel locking plates.

Nesting boxes with birch hole boards feature pre-drilled holes for the screws used to fit the cage doors.

HG Glulam/Birch and Birch/Birch boxes are for inserts as standard, but they can, on request, easily be designed for use without inserts.

Most HG nesting boxes come standard with 120 mm holes, hole rings and shutter rails, side braces, box catches for fitting and bot-toms that open downwards. They are available for both 6- and 8-room cages.

HG wooden sheds

We also produce a specially designed 2-row shed type for 2-storied cages.

Open sheds, 2–14 rowsThe 2-row HG shed has an excellent, broad feeding passage, so you can quickly and easily pass through with the feeding machine. And a height of 2.5 m ensures plenty of vertical space when feeding.

All lumber is planed, which facilitates cleaning and prevents wool and dirt from sticking to the wood. With 70 x 70 mm battens standard, the sheds are very solid and can hold up under even the heaviest winter storms.

closed sheds, 4–14 rowsclosed HG sheds provide a lot of space for getting your work done. The standard feeding passages are 1.3 m wide. A closed shed reduces the risk of animals escaping, which lets you put up the shed without having to fence it in.

HG supplies a steel shed concept with space for four rows. In relation to a traditional wooden shed, the solution features space for 3% more cage compartments because there is no overhang on the nesting boxes.

When three sheds are constructed close to one another, the result seems like one large 12-row shed, but the buildings are up to 25% cheaper than an actual 12-row steel hall.

A fast and easy workflow

A conveyor belt and a grid conveyor between machines ensure a fast and easy workflow.

The mink bodies are rolled in sawdust in the self-emptying body drum. After a preset time, the drum collects the mink in the inner drum and shakes off the sawdust.

Then, the bodies are emptied onto the grid conveyor, which starts and stops automatically so there is always a mink ready for the combi cut operator. Here, the mink are cut up and the tails and hind legs removed.

The Quick conveyor belt carries the cut-up mink to the table for bodies, where the operator at the Quick Skin machine finishes the job.

On both machines, the triangular cut is made using two 80 mm blades, and the angle is not opened up more than absolutely necessary. The narrow triangular cut ensures that more of the skin around the root of the tail is taken off, making the skin itself bigger.

This is the ideal slicing method and provides a straight pinning line if the process you use continues on the FIX-2 system.

The machines work with incredibly precise and variable process speeds, and you can be sure of remarkable precision in the settings which you choose, yourself.

An optimal triangular cut – and things move really quickly

The slicing is performed using two 80 mm blades, and the angle is not opened more than absolutely necessary. This increases the size of the skin.

The Quick cut is a pure cutting machine, while the combi cut features integrated tail and hind leg loosener. Otherwise, they are identical with:

u A narrower triangular cut – to maximise skin sizeu Fast and simple adjustmentu Quick and easy to switch between males and femalesu Laser markingu Paw cutting or clipping

choose between paw cutting and paw clipping. Paw cutting is an advan-tage if the subsequent processing is carried out on a rotating fleshing machine.

Quick Cut / Combi Cut assures optimal slicing. The cut from paw to paw passes the point where the cross-cut knife slices off the paw. This helps prevent damage to the leg section of the skin.

The air control system makes it quick and simple to switch from males to females.

Once the body has been positioned, the slicing on Quick Cut takes just 6 seconds before it is ready for the next mink.

combi cut features an integrated tail and hind leg loosener. This means that you can cut 25–33% of the workforce from the skinning process. The slicing and hind leg loosening processes are run in two separate cycles so you do not need to wait to insert a new animal until the tower is in position.

After the cross cut, the tail is cut up extremely accurately. Then both the tail and hindlegs are loosened lengthwise, meaning that the belly skin does not burst.

The encoder, which controls the moving parts, makes it possible to set for example the blade depth to a precision of less than one millimetre. The mink is now ready to be put on the skinning table. Quite simply, this allows the saving of one man in the skinning line.

The body holder holds the mink when the skin on the tail and hind legs is being loosened.

Slicing and hind leg loosening are run in two separate processes. The paws are automatically blown into the metal boxes.

An XL hind leg hook with plenty of space for the thighs is also avail-able for second-hand machines.

A laser beam clearly indicates where the knife will make the cut from paw to paw.

The fleshing beam on the HG 10 Hot Spray Scraper is five-sided. This makes the fleshing surfaces 20% smaller, which ensures improved, more uniform fleshing.

The skin is actually scraped twice along its full length, both times involving a patented spray system that uses hot water. The skin is then processed by a fat scraper that uses a mechanical system to keep itself clean, after which sawdust is added.

This process leaves the skin almost completely free of fat.

The system features no suction because the water-spray setup leads all the fat down into the fat pump, which can transport it over a distance of up to 40 metres. The pump is mounted on wheels and can therefore be rolled out to facilitate servicing and cleaning.

A roller on each side of the bottom edge of the fleshing beam makes sure that the beam does not bend when the upper scraping roller applies pres-sure.

After scraping, the skin is processed by a fat scraper that uses a mechanical system to keep itself clean.

The eye spikes are retracted into the fleshing beam when the machine is run in reverse. This helps stop the skin turning and prevents the problem of streaks of fat on the hair side.

The skin is processed using five sets of two scraping rollers. All ten are sprayed with hot water during the fleshing process.

It is simple to adjust the scraping rollers after changes. The process can be carried out using a handle – i.e. without the use of tools.

The skin remover is fitted with four catchers instead of two. This eliminates the problem of the skins turning hair side out.

On FIX-2 models 2011 and later, the sleeve jaw fully compresses the FIX-Blue sleeve so that it only grips at the bottom of the pelt (25–30 mm). This helps ensure a straight pinning line.

The model 2014 FIX-2 pinning machine can stretch even more skins to a larger size. The machine itself can sense when a skin can be stretched to the next size up. When it does so, it gives the skin a number of small vibra-tion hits and more time. This produces more skins of a larger size.

The development of the machine means that you can obtain extra return on every last millimetre of every last skin. Moving up to the next size is worth approx. eUr 4.00 today – so every single millimetre makes a positive contri-

bution to the bottom line.

There are big differences in sawdust – up to eUr 4.03 in the sales price per sack.

According to Kopenhagen Fur, the quality of the sawdust used in the pelting process can make a difference of up to three quality points. At February 2016 prices, three quality points is equivalent to eUr 0.09 per skin. If it takes a sack of sawdust to process 50 skins, the improved sales price for the skins will correspond to additional earnings of around eUr 4.03 per sack.

completely newly cut beech wood

HG supplies a very light sawdust product that is particularly suit-able for light mink. It comprises 100% pure, raw and fresh beech wood, because it takes no more than four hours from the time the trunks are cut to the point where the sawdust is dried at a hi-tech drying/heat-treatment facility. This explains why the product is so light and pure.

Improved absorption and cleaning properties

It is important that sawdust can clean and absorb quickly. This is precisely what Dansk Træmel sawdust does because it has a broad, rough surface. In addition, the sawdust contains only 8% water. compared with a water content of, for example, 10%, this means that you quite simply get more sawdust for your money.

A healthier working environment

Sawdust from Dansk Træmel has a very low content of germ, yeast and mould fungi, which can be hazardous to health. This benefits your workforce – and means fewer sick days at the pelt-ing centre.

Big Bags

HG also delivers in Big Bags (= 36 x 80 litre sacks). The price per litre is the same, whatever the size of the sack.

Please order in due time to avoid the rise in price of approx. eUr 0.34 per sack each quarter.

recommendations

In accordance with the results of a trial carried out by Kopenhagen Fur, HG recommends that you replace the scraping rollers for every 5,000 – 6,000 skins scraped.

If the skins are extremely fatty, we recommend an 8-tooth V-roller, while a 10-tooth model is more appropriate for less fatty skins.

experience indicates that the result of the scraping process is often improved if 8-tooth models are used for the first set of scraping rollers. They actually scrape better than 10-tooth versions, cleaning difficult skins more thoroughly – especially around the neck and along the edges of the fleshing beam. you can then use 10-tooth versions for “finishing work” involving the second set of rollers.

It is also a good idea to use a harder roller as the top roller on the first set that makes contact with the skin. If, for example, you are working with a pressure of 4–4.5 bar and the machine is not providing in-depth scraping, we recommend that you switch to a harder roller and decrease the pressure. For (large) tough mink, we have obtained good results by using a grey, 8-tooth roller as the first top roller with a pressure of 3.5 bar.

Working with knowledge about degree of hardness and pressure, you can also minimise the red membrane around the neck of female skins. Of course, you need to be more careful about using the hard rollers on the belly side, which is often the weakest point of the skin.

If you use long inner sleeves, it is simple to check the quality of the scraping and the leather-side drum processing.

The photo above shows sleeves used for four skins that have been pro-cessed in a throughput drum and a self-emptying skin drum as recom-mended. The check reveals that skins that were on the sleeves to the right could have been scraped better.

Documented excellent results from long sleeves

How to prepare skins properly for storage

For the skins to maintain their value, we recommend that you use long in-ner sleeves and process the skins on the leather side for 7–10 minutes in sawdust, and for approx. 2-4 minutes in the net drum.

Which sleeves for which machines?

109% more absorbent than the Kraft V sleeve

In December 2012, Dansk Mink Papir A/S tested the absorption properties of the long paper sleeves – FIX-Absordry – against those of the Kraft V and XL V sleeves. you can see the results here.

The skin with the dark leather side (left) has been treated in a throughput drum. The light skin (right) has been treated in both a throughput drum and a self-emptying skin drum. This will remove the greasy sawdust from the skins and help to minimise the risk of fat leaking out on the hair side.

Trials conducted by Kopenhagen Fur indicate that this treatment can gen-erate an additional eUr 0.60 per skin.

The outer Pe sleeves have side welds of 100 and 150 mm (highlighted in red).

The long FIX-Blue® sleeve with the 150 mm weld ensures that the skin is fixed securely on the pinning board because the sleeve weld is 50% longer. This produces a neat and straighter pinning line.

Usage and dosage

We recommend a mix of Loppex and Dimilin. To make it easier to apply it can be mixed in a drum with sawdust.

Dimilin: For preventing mink fleas. Dimilin is odourless and is sprinkled in the nesting boxes, where it kills flea eggs and larva. It has no effect on adult fleas. Dosage: The straw should be sprinkled with 2 g Dimilin per nesting box.

Loppex: For preventing and treating mink fleas with instant effect. A shak-er comes with the product. This can hold around 500 g, which is enough for approximately 200 nesting boxes. Dosage: 2.5 g per nesting box.

Perma Forte: Works immediately on all insects, for example ants, beetles, silverfish, cat and dog fleas, cockroaches, wasps and flies. The product is long-acting (8-10 weeks). Dosage: 20 ml per m2. Use undiluted in an atom-ising spray.

Neporex: A preventative long-acting agent which stops flies as early as the maggot stage. Neporex can be used anywhere where there are mag-gots, and carries on working for 4 weeks. Dosage: 25 g per m2. Sprinkled or mixed in water.

K-Othrine: Attacks cockroaches, cat and dog fleas, ants, silverfish, wood-lice, arachnids and other creeping insects. Dosage: 100–125 ml in 20-litre spray solution. 1 litre of solution covers 10 m2.

Biovir: An active disinfectant that combats viruses and spores by destroy-ing their rNA and DNA. This also has a negative impact on the living condi-tions for pests such as lice, fleas, silverfish, ants and dust mites. Dosage: 750 ml is sufficient for 37.50 m2.

Forelco drinking water systems

– Tired of high electricity bills or water that freezes?

With Forelco thermo-pipes you can save at least eUr 0.67 per female every year – up to 80% of your energy consumption, in fact. The reason for this is that the insulation ensures that you do not need to use anywhere near as much energy to keep the water flowing. And in the summer, too, you can be sure that your animals will have access to fresh, cool water.

Quite simply, Forelco thermo-pipes ensure much more economical opera-tion. call for details of the benefits of investing in the tried and tested high-quality Forelco products.

The Forelco tank installation is 50 cm in dia–meter and available in a range of sizes to suit any mink farm. It is supplied with an energy-efficient Grundfos circulation pump whose size is naturally determined by the size of the farm in question.

The energy supply can be boosted with an external heat source such as a hotbox, an oil-fired heater, or a stoker boiler.

The tank itself is fitted with heating elements with a max. output of up to 36 kW.

Prices from eUr 3,720.00

The installation is supplied with an electric control unit which allows you to monitor the water temperature and adjust it in relation to the outdoor temperature.

you can connect your farm installation to the HG monitoring system, which means you will receive SMS notification on your mobile phone in the event of errors in the facility – such as a power outage or an overloaded pump motor.

The electric control unit for the Forelco system has been simplified. We can therefore incorporate the SMS module in the control unit, which means there is no need to install an extra box.
