Introduction

Carleton Confidentail was compiled for a Cinema and Media Studies class at Carleton College, Graphic Design: Type + Image + Message. This project was largely inspired by postsecret.com, a community art project that encourages people to mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard. I remember when I first came across Post Secret a few years ago. I couldn’t tear myself away from the site. I sat there for hours reading secret after secret, each more heart wrenching than the last. I felt intimately connected to all of those people despite the fact that the secrets were anonymous. I wanted to do something like Post Secret for my final project, except specifically for Carleton. I put up posters around campus and created a facebook group and the response I got was overwhelming. The secrets range from humorous to melancholic, but more than anything else they are all honest.

Carleton Confidential is a project for a Cinema and Media Studies Class, Graphic Design: Type + Image + Mes-sage, at Carleton College. Students were asked to anonymously submit their secrets to mailbox #673. The re-sults are contained in this book. The secrets range from humorous to melancholic but all of the secrets have one thing in common: they offer the reader a window into the secret life of a Carleton student.
