description
Many people have collections of books, or volunteer to look after books in small libraries, or are required as a part of their business to look after documents (as in a solicitor's office), and sooner or later a situation will occur in which the owner or custodian will feel the need for practical advice. For many years, the Research Laboratory of the British Museum has received requests for advice from people who have problems with books and documents and, though these requests are now transferred to the British Library, it seemed that a small booklet based on this Laboratory's accumulated experience would be welcome.
