NEXT CLUB MEETING: APRIL 9th 2013 6:30 p.m.

Jeff Gorden Chevrolet

In the Used Car showroom South College Road, Wilmington NC

MEETING MINUTES March 12 2013 Call to Order: Tony Caracciolo called the meeting to order at 6:34pm and welcomed 50

members and 1 guest. All 2013 officers were present. Minutes: Tony asked the membership present if it would be ok to print the minutes and the

NCM ambassadors report in the newsletter that would be posted on the website as opposed to both in the newsletter and individually. The member voted that printing both in the

newsletter would be ok. Minutes of the February 12th meeting were approved as posted on our CFC website.

Financial Report: The February CFC financial status was reported by Greg Stanley the club is on sound financial ground. Greg then spoke about the upcoming trip to the Lake Waccamaw Boys & Girls Home. Greg

showed a sample of the gift bags that will be given to the children. He then spoke about the details of meeting up with the group if you don’t travel with the group and that no pictures of

the children could be taken. See flyer for additional details Membership status: As of February 28th we have 71 members: 64 Full, 7 Associate.

Doug Holmgren spoke about track day at NCCAR on August 3rd he passed out flyers and said

he was planning to attend. If you’re interested see flyer for details. There is also a track day by Asphalt Ventures on March 23rd for information on that see flyer.

Old Business Tony spoke about a couple events coming up Vettes Doin’ Charleston the weekend of April 19th and 20th, Pinehurst Concourse d'Elegance, Corvettes at Carlisle and the Childress

Winery and that if you’re interested in attending any of these events to please contact Tony as up to this point no one has contacted Tony about attending any of these. Richard Fox is

planning to attend the Pinehurst Concourse d'Elegance so if you’re interested contact Richard.

I have contacted Ken Bomhan by E-mail with no response to date about turning control of our Facebook page over to an officer of the club. I will send him another e-mail next week if I

don’t get a response. On the Saturday the 23rd a number of us traveled to Myrtle Beach for the luncheon hosted by

Grand Stand Corvettes. It was a rainy day and when we arrived at the restaurant we were the only ones there. We went is and were told that the event was cancelled a couple days before. We all enjoyed a nice lunch and some people went home and some went to the mall

shopping.

New Business Tony raised the issue of changing the bylaws to increase new members’ dues to $30. This small increase would help pay for the name tag we give new members. Renewal dues would

remain $24. It is also hoped that this will encourage members to get their dues payment in before March 1st as after then they would be considered new members reapplying to the club. This would require a bylaws change to be voted on at the next meeting. See proposed change

below.

Proposed change to By-Laws Article VI - Annual Dues: "2. Annual dues are: $30 for Full membership for new members

$15 if joining with less than 6 months left in calendar year $24 annual renewal if paid between January 1 and March 1 $30 annual renewal if paid after March 1" This proposed change will be voted on at the April 9, 2013 meeting. If approved by the membership, It will become effective beginning with the 2014 calendar year.

Family Picnic May 11th.at Moores Creek Battlefield save the date There was a discussion

about the menu for the family picnic as to what we should have it was suggested that we do a pig picking and a number of people felt we should have a least two choices of entre so that

will be investigated. Club Logo Clothing: Tony C. reported that we will not set-up a Queensboro web store on

our web-site. We can provide a link to approved supplier’s websites and members can do their own shopping. J.R. Best presented samples of his company’s items for sale and will also have more items,

including jackets, at the April meeting (come early). Catalogs are available and J.R. will also arrange to have items available locally at Best Uniform Inc., 2716 Exchange Dr., Wilmington

(910-791-6050). Note: J.R. donated all proceeds from his product’s sales at our 2012 Corvette show to the CFC Charity fund and has offered a similar donation this year. Rich Randall presented preliminary embroidery samples and a jacket from Upholstery1 Trim

Shop and circulated a catalog and free sample screen-printed T-shirts.

Car Show: Gordon Boyd spoke about the car show flyer and had some for distribution and asked all members to take some and distribute them any place they see a corvette.

National Corvette Museum: Don Paulson reported that he signed up two members of the club to the museum. Don’s complete report with details can be found in the newsletter

Reminders:

Send your Corvette photos to Webmaster John Talatanian at [email protected]. Next Membership meeting: 6:30PM on April 9th, at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet Used Car

building.

All members that are going to the event at Darlington race track please meet with Richard outside under the light for a drivers meeting after this meeting is over.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:50PM. Afterwards a large group of members

cruised to JAXS DELI & ALE HOUSE for a social gathering and meal.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Our club receives many requests to support various organizations, such as charities, businesses, car shows, craft fairs, parades, weddings, etc. Obviously we cannot support them all and some general guidelines are needed to prioritize the ones we will support as a club. Of course, members can always do as they choose. I am currently drafting a set of guidelines to be reviewed by our officers and members. In the meantime, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know your thoughts by e-mail (or in writing). For example, my own thoughts are to first support those organizations that are (a) involved in the Corvette hobby and/or that (b) support our club (eg. show donors) and/or that (c) are personally represented or owned by a CFC member. In addition, we are considering adding links on our web-site to approved organization's web-sites and adding advertising to our newsletter. Please send me your ideas and suggestions.

Thanks! Tony C.

Dr. Michael S. Hamby Sr.

Mike is the proud owner of an original 1974 C-3 that he purchased new 39 years ago! He has maintained his low mileage Corvette to a very high standard.

Mike was born on January 6, 1947 in Rome, Georgia. He moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1948 where he lived until his graduation from NC State University. During his high school days, he spent time drag racing in Greensboro and at other local tracks. He also spent time

watching a then young Richard Petty run the track at the NC Fairgrounds. Hamby obtained experience at the track in Redbank, Tennessee while working during the summers in a textile

mill in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He took up racing again during his ten years in Chicago from 1972 to 1982 as he ran stock class car for Harlem & Division Standard on Santa Fe and Sycamore Speedways. His racing hobby took a backseat to making a living but once

again, he rekindled the burning desire to drive racecars after participating in the Richard Petty Driving Experience in December 1994. Since 1994, Hamby has logged hundreds of laps

at Charlotte Motor Speedway, North Carolina Motor Speedway (Rockingham), Orlando Speedway, New Smyrna Daytona Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Wake County Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Phoenix

See Don on how easy it is to become a member of the NCM. You can join thru me or go directly to www.corvettemuseum.org to join, just let me know so I can recognize you at our next meeting.

I want to welcome club members Don and Cindy Helms as new Family members to the National Corvette Museum. They took advantage of the ½ price Family membership offered by

the NCM in February. This was advertised in our club newsletter in February.

Final C6 Rolls off the Assembly Line

This morning at 8:04 a.m., the last 2013 Corvette came off the line at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The celebration was

short lived, as less than 30 minutes after the last car was built, workers began remodeling the plant to prepare for the launch of the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray.

A total of 215,100 sixth-generation "C6" Corvettes were made at Bowling Green Assembly since production began in 2005, the

last of which was the exclusive 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition outfitted with the 60th Anniversary design package.

The last C6 Corvette will join other historic General Motors vehicles at the GM Heritage Center in Warren, Mich. Even as the team celebrated building the last C6, Plant Manager Dave

Tatman said there has been a great deal of anticipation and excitement toward building the all-new Stingray. “The last C6 rolls off the line at 8:04 a.m. and I’ll have people in here at 8:30 a.m. to start

tearing down and putting in new tools,” Tatman said. The task will require that 120 workers take just four weeks to turn the Bowling Green plant around, completing a job that usually takes months to accomplish. All employees are slated to

return to work on March 25, where they will learn the entirely new process required to build the Stingray.

Bowling Green Assembly, which hosts up to 50,000 visitors a year, is currently closed to the public to facilitate the remodeling of the line. Tatman said he plans to reopen the plant to outside tours as soon as possible, knowing that everyone is excited to see this new generation

of Corvette built. However, he says this will not likely happen until Fall.

“As I always say, we don’t build cars, we build dreams,” Tatman said.

See Two C7 Show Cars at Bash

The last weekend of April has historically been the 'official' kick

off for Corvette event season at the Museum. Our annual Bash event is known to bring the VIPs out in full force, and this year

we will have several VICs (very important Corvettes)!

According to NCM Events Manager, Roc Linkov, we will have not one, but two C7 show cars at the Bash... both a coupe and a convertible. Additionally, it is quite likely that one will be one

of the new colors. "The Museum is not only a place for history, it's also a place where history is made," said Roc.

"Our Events Department works hard to bring special touches to everything we plan, and the Bash is no exception. Representatives from GM will be on site to share with you the excitement of the C7, answer questions - and hear your feedback."

Bash pre-registration closes in just over a month so if you haven't signed up yet there's still time. Check out the complete agenda at the museums website

GM Performance Build Center Relocating to Bowling Green

The Performance Build Center, currently located in Wixom, MI,

will move to the GM Chevrolet Corvette Assembly Plant by the first quarter of 2014. The PBC employs 29 and builds engines for the Grand Sport Coupe manual, Z06, 427 Convertible and ZR1.

"I'm very happy to announce today that GM will move its Performance Build Center, which allows engine enthusiasts to

build their own specialty engines, from Michigan, and we're going to bring it right here to Bowling Green," said Arvin Jones, Manufacturing Manager for GM North America at the January 30 press conference.

In 2010 GM announced the launch of the Corvette Engine Build Experience, where buyers can assist in the building of their engine. The owner's name is then affixed on a special plate

on their engine, next to the one bearing the name of the master builder. "We've got lots of excitement headed our way," said GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant Manager Dave Tatman. "We intend to make the full transition to the Performance Build

Center by the first quarter of 2014. Lots of details have got to be worked out yet, but obviously we wanted to share that great news with you. As you think about this, I know Wendell that you and your team are jumping up and down thinking about how we can continue to combine

our efforts between the National Corvette Museum and the Bowling Green Assembly Plant and this new opportunity, and we look forward to those discussions as well."

NCM Motorsports Park We continue to make steady progress with the NCM Motorsports Park. We received the final design and it is on our website www.motorsportspark.org. We contracted for the preparation

of the construction bid documents. Those should be completed by May 1st. We will then mail out the construction bid packets to prospective and qualified

construction/paving companies. We plan to bid the project in 5 individual phases and then 4 combinations of the individual phases. Interested companies will have 30 days to submit their bids to the NCM. We should have all the bids back by mid-June. At that time, our NCM

Motorsports Park Project Committee, along with our civil engineering firm and track designer will thoroughly analyze and compare all the bids. The committee will then make a recommendation to the full Board of Directors of what phases and/or combination bids to

accept. While we are confident that we will award a contract for the 15+ acres autocross/skid

pad/paddock area, any additional phases (or combination of phases) we approve will be determined by the results of our fundraising efforts over the next 4 – 5 months. Our estimate of costs is $16,475,000. To date we have spent $3 million on land acquisition,

engineering and design. Approximately $1.5 million was from donations and the balance from operating capital from the Museum. Our Buy-an-Acre Campaign ends 12/31/2013. To date

we have “sold” 79 of the 184 acres. We have meetings scheduled within the next two weeks with the local Area Development District for a grant that will help with water, sewer and existing road improvements. The NCM

staff continues to network with several companies on their involvement, including sponsorship and/or pre-paid track time.

Asphalt Ventures Track Day

My name is Stacy King, and I’m the owner of a small motorsport event and photography

organization called Asphalt Ventures.

I’m hosting an event March 24th, 2013 that I think your club members would be interested in.

The event will be a high performance driver education event. This means participants will have an

in-car instructor as well as classroom instruction for beginners.

There will be four groups: Beginner/Novice, Intermediate/Advanced, Instructor/Solo, and a

special group specifically for convertibles and roadsters.

The convertible/roadster group is designated for vehicles without aftermarket roll-over protection,

typically not allowed at high speed driving events. Because of the layout and overall safety of the

host facility, we are providing this group as a way of introducing owners of these cars to the

experience of being able to push their cars beyond what they can do on public roads, but still

maintain a controlled and safe environment. This group will have three track sessions (about an

hour and a half of seat time) as well as classroom time.

All other groups (including convertibles with competition-style roll bars and proper seating &

restraints) will get five track sessions and classroom sessions. Everyone in the

convertible/roadster, beginner/novice, and intermediate/advanced groups will have in-car

instructors.

The entire event will be held at the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research

(http://www.nccar.us/) near Roanoke Rapids, NC (just off I-95). We will utilize the 2 mile road

course circuit and surrounding facilities.

We will be photographing all participants while on track and each participant will receive a

custom gallery of all their images after the event. From this gallery each participant will be able to

share images as well as purchase high-res downloads and prints.

Pricing for this event is as follows:

Track Day (closed vehicles): $200

Track Day (convertibles): $150
