The trip to Rockingham Race Track was on March16th and everyone had a great time. 24 corvettes participated in the laps around the track. Something about Gordon Boyd being the

slowest driver and it seems Dom Helms travels to events with his own personal pit crew. And we will be going to Darlington on August 10 to do laps around that track.

Greg then spoke about the trip to the Lake Waccamaw Boys & Girls Home. There were 18 Corvettes and 20 plus people in attendance. The children were happy to receive the gift and

the see the collection of corvettes. The corvettes were parked on the new paved parking area making the owner very happy. There was a tour of the chapel and the office which is in a very old house after which the group walked across the street for a nice lunch. Special thanks to

Greg for organizing the event and to Sandy Fox for shopping and donating a number of the items given to the children,

Sat April 6th was a Cars & Coffee cruise at Red Robin in Mayfair. This is a fun event held the first Saturday of every month and with the nice weather there has been over 100 cars at the

last couple. You will see all type and varieties of cars at this cruise. New Business

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We frequently get requests for recommendations for shops to take our Corvettes for various kinds

of work, especially specialty shops that are experienced with older models. If you have had a

good experience and have a recommendation for a specialty shop, please let me know. You can

also write up a little article (see Peter’s below) detailing your experience. They could also make a

good contact as a potential supporter of our Corvette show. Peter has added a “Services and

Classified” page to the newsletter, so if you have a recommendation or items for sale, send the

information to Peter for publication.

Thanks! TC

CAPE FEAR CORVETTES MEMBER SPOT LIGHT Peter Ziehl

As some of you know I have two old corvettes that are powered with modern LS-1 engines. After completing the restoration of both cars I wanted to have them Dyno tuned. With that in

mind at the end of February it was off to National Speed on Gordon road here in Wilmington with both corvettes to get them tuned. The 1966 had an issue with an air intake temperature sensor and once that was repaired the car gained 90 additional rear wheel HP from the tuning

and sensor repair. Putting down 345 RWHP with 355 ft. Lbs. of torque. The 1961had no issues and gained 25 additional HP after the tune and put down 325 RWHP and 340 ft. Lbs.

of torque. Every one at National Speed was very professional and treated me and my corvettes with the utmost respect. I would recommend them for tuning or upgrade work on any car.

April 9, 2013

Dear Sponsor,

I am contacting you on behalf of the Cape Fear Corvettes’ Club located in Wilmington, North Carolina. We are

currently making preparations for our Sixth Annual Corvette Car Show, to be held on September 15, 2013. The

show will be held at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, North Carolina.

We are asking for your support as we secure items for our charity auction and door prizes for the car show. We

would greatly appreciate any product or gift certificate you can donate.

This year we are again partnering with AARP and plan to donate all net proceeds raised from the show to AARP

and Jeff Gordon’s “Drive to End Hunger”. Drive to End Hunger is a multi-year commitment to solve the problem

of hunger in America, particularly among the more than six million older Americans who face the threat of hunger

each day. Our fundraising efforts include an auction and a 50/50 raffle. We are currently working with AARP and

our local food bank, The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, to organize a food drive in conjunction with the

show. Last year we raised over $4,400.00 and donated 300 pounds of food to our local food bank. That provided

over 25,000 meals to the hungry in Wilmington.

As a sponsor, your name will be posted on a Sponsor Board at the car show, for all participants and spectators to

see. Additionally, a list of all sponsors will be included with each door prize given to all participants.

I am collecting items at my home address, so I would ask if you could send all items to the address listed below. If

you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the phone number I have provided, or send me an email at

the address below.

Ellen Boyd

Phone # (910) 508-4348 email address: [email protected]

Thank you in advance for supporting our show and our club. It would not be possible for us to have a successful

show without sponsors like you.
