MS is an auto immune disease which

affects the central nervous system

(CNS)

People with this disease can live

although most end up in wheel chairs in

the end

What is it?

Page 3: By: Kaleb Wells And Joshua Turnbull. MS is an auto immune disease which affects the central nervous system (CNS) People with this disease can live.

It affect s women 2 to 3 times more than men

MS is not inherited but genetics do play an important

role in who does and does not get the disease

Most are diagnosed between 20 and 50 years of age

More common in the North than the South

More common in Caucasians than other races

Who does it affect?

Page 4: By: Kaleb Wells And Joshua Turnbull. MS is an auto immune disease which affects the central nervous system (CNS) People with this disease can live.

The immune cells in a body with MS erodes the myelin

sheath of the nerve cells

The eroded myelin sheaths become scar tissue in a

process called sclerosis.

Which causes electrical impulses to be slower, interrupted,

distorted, or cancel out altogether

How is it an Auto Immune Disease?
