Solvent DehydrationBuss-SMS-Canzler offers highly economicalhybrid systems of thermal separation andmembrane technology. The combination ofconventional distillation columns with vapourpermeation or pervaporation membranes isa comprehensive process solution for therecovery of purified solvents and water fromcontaminated waste or process streams.Typical feed products are solvent / watermixtures which may become azeotropic.

Heat RecoveryModern membranes made out of polymersor ceramics can operate at temperaturesup to 150 °C and are therefore suitable forheat recovery with vapour recompression ormultiple effect evaporation at high tempera-ture levels.

EthanolDehydration Systems

Ethanol plant upgradesExisting Ethanol plants can be easily up-graded to produce dehydrated ethanol byuse of membrane dehydration.The process advantages are a higher capa-city and better product quality while usingthe existing equipment or vice versa samecapacity and better quality at lower energyconsumption.

Stand Alone SystemsSelf-contained systems can take liquid feedand perform the dehydration independentlyfrom the ethanol plant. The permeate iseither processed in the stand alone systemor returned to the ethanol plant.

Integrated Dehydration SystemsThese systems are connected to the vapouroutlet of the rectification column of the rawethanol plant. The rectifier only needs toconcentrate to min 80 w% ethanol and mayoperate at reduced reflux. The permeate isrecycled to the distillation.Integrated Systems provide lowest investmentcosts, best heat integration and lowest energyconsumption in the entire ethanol plant.Reference plants are successfully in opera-tion since 2002.
